Development of Umbrella Design Utilizing K-pop Star Image - Focused on Bangtan Boys - (K-pop 스타 이미지를 활용한 우산 디자인 개발 - 방탄소년단을 중심으로 -)

  • Contemporary people can form a broad social sympathy on cultural products based on the present Korean image. K-pop is good material to use to share korean culture, and fans who are enthusiastic here are increasingly demanding cultural products. The visual materials of Bangtan Boys are collected from their album covers, and a concept book, and divided into specific and symbolic images. Based on this motif, three specific images: 'bulletproof vest', 'army house + superhero extract image', and 'Wings symbol', six designs were proposed. In addition, six motifs from the music videos for recent popular songs, 'Spring Day', 'Blood, Sweat and Tears' and 'Burning Up' were selected as symbolic images. Each selected image is divided into a normal line and a special line. The former is a relatively small, stable, and popular style, and the latter is a large, original, and bold style. By drawing and transforming extracted images and motifs using Adobe Illustrator CS6 and Adobe Photoshop CS6 program, a full-width umbrella design was developed. The messages that the Bangtan Boys wants to convey through their music are put into cultural products that contemporaries can sympathize with. By developing umbrellas, a variety of items and design goods can become desirable points of consumption as high-value products by domestic and foreign fandom. If designs that incorporate various elements of future K-pop contents as well as other Korean Wave contents are developed, it will be possible to develop original design products that will form global understanding.

A Study of Synesthesia Used in Public Advertising (공익포스터의 공감각적 표현 연구)

  • A variety of methods are used in public advertising to make message persuasive. In order for posters to be more appealing, one good way is to use synesthesia. This study analyzed how synesthesia were used for effective communication. The case analysis is based on the prize winning advertisements chosen by the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation. According to the study, synesthesia maximize the efficiency of information delivery. Secondly, in the public campaign posters, sight was the most frequently used sensory element, followed by touch, hearing, smell and taste, respectively. Third, visual tactility was mostly used in nature and environment related posters to effectively deliver the messages. In the topic of social community campaigning, visualization of hearing was applied the most. Lastly, when more than three multisensory stimulations were present in the public campaign, the strongest sense stimulus played the largest part in making message delivery more efficient. The results of this study are expected to provide a scientific basis for future campaign posters that synesthesia expression elements are applied.

A Study on the Form of Charms with the Attributes of Experimental Typography (실험 타이포그래피 관점에서의 부적의 조형성)

  • The Charm is composed of various kind of ancient signs, letters and systematic characters so that they delivers messages with many expressions. They, compared with the experimental typography, are more logical and experimental than we generally think. Also, they have meanings and attributes as characters do, in which there are symbols, hieroglyphs, pictures and other similar words. Each attribute diverse from symbolic meaning, associates to deconstruction of letters. It is needed to review the experimental attributes of charms with the view of structural typography for potentialities of expression. The purpose of the study is to analyze and classify the morphologic construction of charms so that we can find the possibilities of applying the attributes to visual languages and typography.   • As the distribution rate of the Smart mobile increased, the software technology and ideas for the ubiquitous systems advanced day after day to establish an environment where the public can easily access and experience such technologies. The communication between an individual and the many became more convenient through the social network services (SNS) and the individuals started to attempt to communicate in various methods. The communication methods and techniques became more diverse and the media art pieces focusing on the communications among many also became more interesting. This study attempted to create a prototype of the visual communication media art through the indirect participation of one of the widespread SNS, Twitter, for the communication and also to suggest the direct and indirect communication routes among the humans. In addition, the use of the typography in the pieces also attempted to examine a new type of work that combines the SNS and media art while delivering the text messages.

Kitsch Features Expressed in Contemporary Fashion Accessories (현대 패션 액세서리에 나타난 키치(Kitsch) 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop various designs through renewing and changing perception of accessories by examining various and arbitrary Kitsch. For the method of this study, literature review was mainly used for research of formative characteristics in Kitsch fashion. 798 pieces of work from fashion magazines and website with a focus on Milan, Paris, London and New York collections, in the decade of 2000-2010 were collected. The results of this study are as follows. First, the characteristic of exaggeration is classified into two types: the visual exaggeration, which is characterized by psychological expression through excessive images and (2) the collecting exaggeration, which is not simple but a want of large quantities. Second, the characteristic of satire is classified into two types: (1) the imitation-satire, which satirizes messages to societies with creative humor by using easily consumed materials and (2) the resistance-satire, which is destructive and offensive against isolation and desolation of a capitalistic society. Third, the characteristic of amusement is classified into two types: (1) the playful-amusement, which raises a laugh slyly by using clever materials and (2) the childish-amusement, which involves childish imagination and humor-sense because of desire to be a child. Fourth, the characteristic of nostalgia is classified into two types: (1) the romantic character expressing a departure from modern society, which is desolate because of the urbanization process, and (2) the intermediate character recreating an esthetic category by interacting with different and relative elements. Fifth, the characteristic of inappropriateness is expressed through a deliberate mistake, and it denies existing senses of beauty by overturning common sense and creating new senses of beauty, expressions in distortion and modification of stereotype.

  • Typography is the field be needed the most emotional and potential originality in the visual designers works. The design process introduced by aesthetic results is depended on a designers sensibility and originality. Accordingly this study includes more detail suggestions for mental switchover and developing whole area of sense and its education which make more sincere and easy communication of sentences in typographic and messages, removing fixed ideas, that are, prejudice and preconception, is one of big problems in making originality through the educational programs for experimental typography approaching with a new vision. Today, the change of typographic environment carried the substance and effectiveness of traditional typography be suspected and new ways are growing fast to escape from these traditional value. This study introduces some education programs such as Typortrait, Typeface, Typographic Essay, Kinetic Typography to realize the experimental typography to meet a new stream and social needs under the situation of exoplosive change and harmony fairly with proposition of coexisting of inspiration and technology, and finally expected to develop and promote typography experiment newly and to make educational section understand and confirm them.

  • It is critical to manage risks to complete IS(Information Systems) projects successfully. Identifying risk factors would be the first step for the project risk management. Previous research has discussed the issue with various points of view, such as different risk factors based on project types and roles involved in their projects. This paper empirically explored how people perceive different risk factors by project development methodology, between self-developing IS using programming language like C, Visual Basic and adapting software package already developed by software venders like ERP, CRM packages. There are researches regarding project risk factors for project management in the several point of views. And there are also researches regarding comparison between self-developing and adapting software packages methodology in IS project. However, there are no study on project risk factors comparison between self-developing IS using programming language and adapting software packages already developed by software venders in IS project. This research can be differentiated from previous ones, because it was considered both point of project risk management and development methodology in IS project. This research results implied meaningful messages to enterprise company to be planned IS projects and people who involved in IS projects. They should consider and need to prepare differently according to each development methodology for preventing project risks. It makes them reduce project risks in each case and complete successfully IS projects. Especially, if they have no experiences for implementing software packages, they can forecast the project risks and prepare them in advance.

An Analysis of Gender Images of Fashion Style in BTS Music Videos Using Judith Butler's Performativity Theory (버틀러의 수행성 이론으로 본 BTS 뮤직비디오 패션스타일의 젠더 이미지 분석)

  • The music videos of BTS go beyond the limit of media promoting music and shows their meaning in various ways and complete the visual message of music through fashion style. BTS' fashion style in the music videos shows a change in symbolic representation of the genre of each album and song, of which gender images are changing aligned with the music messages of BTS. The purpose of this study was to derive gender images of fashion style in BTS music videos and to interpret their meaning based on Judith Butler's theory that performativity creates discourse through iterative process. It is conducted as a research method, an analytical study was conducted in parallel with literature studies and empirical case analysis. The scope of the study was limited to 301 costumes that appeared in 21 official music videos from debut single album '2Cool 4 Skool' released in 2013 to the mini album 'Map of the Soul: Persona' released in 2019. As a result of the analysis, the controversial fashion style, challenging fashion style, boyish fashion style, hybrid fashion style, the playful fashion style were revealed. The conclusion of studying the gender image of BTS, interpreted by this analysis using Judith Butler's theory, is as follows. The gender image of BTS is the traditional image that identifies with the dominant gender discourse, the resistive gender image that intentionally distances mainstream culture, the eclectic image parodying the gender of the opposing term, and the deconstructive image that transcends the dominant gender discourse.

Routing Control Algorithm for SS7 Signaling Traffic with Distributed Message Handling Processors (분산 메시지처리기 구조에서의 공통선 신호 트래픽루팅 제어 기법)

  • Message handling function of the SS7(Signaling System N0.7) provides signaling traffic routing capabilities to transfer the signaling traffic to the destination nodes in the signaling network. This message handling function should be handled without any transfer delay for real time processing of large amount of signaling traffic for data communication service, and visual information service. In this paper, we suggest two routing algorithms working on the distributed message handling processors which were specially designed for message handling function. The one is an internal distributing algorithm for equal distribution of signaling traffic among the distributed message handling processors and the other is a distributing algorithm for distribution of signaling traffic in the multiple signaling routes. Both of algorithms are using signaling link selection codes labled in each signaling messages. It is shown that the suggested algorithms are very efficient for routing signaling traffic at the fault condition of signaling routes and the restoration of unavailable signaling routes.

  • As the quality of our life has improved, residential complexes have become more diverse now. Modern residential complexes function as a place for meeting and communication between families and neighbors, including parks, lakes, and promenades, and exhibiting sculptures in residential spaces has become an important component. This study was conducted for the purpose of researching the design development method for the sculptures displayed in the residential space in accordance with these changes and demands of the era. Through the process of visualizing the figurative arts with metal and stone used as materials, the artist's thoughts and messages were put in the sculpture and the arts were completed as the shape of the sculpture that viewers could sympathize with. This design and formative research shows the possibility that various visual elements for sympathy with the creator's thoughts can be formed in a place with the specificity of living space by using a figurative visualization method. Therefore, further researches on figurative art of sculptures are required.
