숀 탠 (Shaun Tan)의 3D 애니메이션 에 나타난 은유적 표현에 대한 고찰 (Consideration of Metaphors Appeared on Shaun Tan's 3D Short Animation, )

  • 본 논문은 최근 아카데미 단편 애니메이션 상을 수상하며 국제무대에서 객관적인 작품성을 인정받은 숀 탠의 애니메이션 에 나타난 은유적 표현을 분석하였다. 단편 애니메이션 은 내용적 시각적인 면에서 많은 부분이 은유적인 방식으로 표현되어 있다. 분석의 방법은 언어체계를 기반으로 하는 '개념적 은유 분석틀'을 이용하여 스토리와 시퀀스를 분석하고, 개념들이 구조화될 때 파생되는 시각적 차원을 분석하기 위하여 '시각적 은유 분석틀'을 이용하여 캐릭터를 분석하였다. 본 논문에서는 애니메이션이 관객과 소통하는 방식을 기존의 다양한 관점 중에서 은유라는 광범위한 의미에서의 언어적 대상을 통해 애니메이션이 자신을 실현하는 방식, 애니메이션이 자기 조직화하는 양상을 고찰함으로써 밝히고자 하였다. 애니메이션에서 은유는 파편과도 같은 이미지들 간의 연계와 총체성을 생산하고 관객에게 창조적 소통을 유도하는 본질적인 수단으로 기능한다. 애니메이션 에서 다양한 방식으로 실현되는 은유들의 시동 동기로서 작용하는 본질적 의미는 현대인이 느끼는 상실과 그리움의 정서이며, 열차, 병뚜껑, 음식, 물품 처리소, 좁은 틈새 공간, 소속을 알 수 없는 분실물을 통해 작품 전체를 관통하는 의미로 작용하고 있다. 이와 같이 작품 분석을 통하여 알아본 은유의 기능은 우선 미적 기능으로서 간결미와 신선미를 준다. 또한 경제적 기능으로서 장황한 내용을 함축적으로 표현하며, 여러 가지 의미를 한꺼번에 내포한다. 그리고 창조적 기능으로서 은유가 새로운 의미생산의 도구로서 사용되었다. 즉 애니메이션은 단지 어린 연령층을 대상으로 한 오락적인 장르만이 아닌 사유와 소통의 도구로서 보다 폭넓은 대중들에게 감동을 전달할 수 있는 매체이며, 이러한 다양하고 깊이 있는 의미전달을 위한 장치로서 은유적인 표현이 사용되었음을 알 수 있다.

  • Although past design developments that emphasized only the outer appearances of products were mostly concentrated on the areas of forms and colors in an attempt to satisfy humans' visual needs, it is expected that future designs to come will go in the direction to stimulate more diversified human senses. This means expansions to the five senses including the auditory sense, the sense of smell, the tactile sense and the taste and even to the area of synesthesia where two or more senses are stimulated or coexist. Although the dictionary definition of synesthesia is a concept of arousing another sense through a sense, studies of synesthesia in design go one step further from here to mean compound senses, that is, the synesthesia in an expanded meaning to feel an object (thing) through many sensory organs simultaneously. The synesthesia in the expanded meaning is applying multiple senses simultaneously in recognizing one thing to comprehensively judge and feel the thing. Recent design trends are going in a direction to basically satisfy humans' visual needs through controlled forms and colors while inducing another new feeling through expressions of diverse feels of materials within existing forms. In this change of the times, studies on furniture designs are conducted through factors of in synesthesia linked with other senses and have an important meaning that can enhance the value of designs.

속옷광고의 구조 및 내용의 변화에 관한 연구 -1965~1999의 여성잡지를 중심으로- (A Study on the Changes of Appearances and Contents of Underclothes Advertisements)

  • This study looks into the appearances and contents of undercloths advertisements by analyzing them appeared in women\`s magazines of Korea, which are , and published between 1965 and 1999 mainly targeting the women at the age of 20s through 40s. This study leads to the following conclusions : 1. Most of advertisements use 1 or 2 pages of the magazines with colored pictures. 2. The most frequently advertised underclothes is brassieres and white and pastel are dominant colors. Also, spandex and cotton are the most frequently appeared fabrics in the advertisement. 3. Professional Korean female models in twenties are the most favored choice for those underclothes advertisements and those models dominantly face their fore part with showing the body parts higher than their knees. Solo model appear in most of the advertisements and independent appearance is dominant. 4. In the visual expression of the advertisements explicitly show the products for visual expression, whereas verbal expressions mostly emphasize the benefits to be obtained from the underclothes advertised. 5. Advertisement appeals are mainly base on readers\` reason rather than sensibility.

  • VOQL* query language, recently proposed, is a visual language for object-oriented databases. It is based on Ven Diagram and graph, so that the underlying schema structure can be naturally implied in query expressions. In VOQL*, structural relationship among the objects used in a query expression is represented graphically and thus it has formal semantics that can be inductively defined, as well as it can be used with ease. In this paper, we proposed revised VOQL* and introduced its query processor, InQs(Intelligent Querying System). While retaining the merit of VOQL* that it allows the structural relationship among the objects to be represented visually, the revised VOQL* has another merit that users can formulate a query interactively using various forms supplied by InQs. As a query processor that translates queries in revised VOQL into those in ODMG OQL, InQs provides an environment in which users express queries in revised VOQL* and then the system automatically translates them into those in ODMG OQL. Translation algorithm of InQs is much simpler and intuitive than other algorithms used in QUIVER and other systems, since it reflects the formal semantics of VOQL*, which is defined inductively.

현대 패션 윈도우 디스플레이에 나타난 키네티시즘 움직임 특성 (Characteristics of Kineticism in contemporary fashion window display)

  • This study analyzes characteristics related to Kineticism found in different kinds of displays and arts in order to contemplate modern window displays. The standard of analysis is based on kinetic arts pioneer George Rickey's six display factors. Projection features and movements were categorized into "Direct movements," "Indirect movements," and "Relative movements." Results were obtained through analysis of different examples of each category. First, the most observed form of Kineticism was direct movements on the window display. Along with the development of science and techniques, a variety of divergent motional methods has arisen. After that followed indirect movement, which uses visual media and lights for presentation. The third was relative movements, which provides communication in practical experience; users' motion is used to provide modification in vision. Fourth, we observed that direct movements and indirect movements can express fluidity depending on materials, inducing a sense of tension within the window display through visual stimuli together with dynamism from mechanical exposure. Fifth, when direct movements pair with relative movements, it triggers customer participation; though it does not deliberately induce participation, the effects are beyond expectation. Sixth, if indirect movements meet relative movements, the motion of lights offers a major stimulation to the customers along with various expressions, thus achieving an interactive domain.

성(性)적 마스커레이드를 통해 고찰한 패션사진의 유형 (Types of fashion photography investigated through sexual masquerade)

  • This study, which focuses on a masquerade, starts from the concept that all men exist as visual objects as well as visual subjects before discussing an issue of sexuality to inquire into masquerade characteristics of fashion photography. Masquerade is a concept that can describe various and multidimensional attributes of humans in social norms prescribed separately for men and women till now, and the concept has not yet been introduced in the field of fashion. However, it is considered a measure to analyze contemporary expressions of sexuality, on which a need for this research is raised. This study looks into the basic concept of the object and the ego through a psychoanalysis-related literature review. This study, then inquires into Jacques Lacan's notion of gaze and Roger Caillois's theory of mimicry through related specialty publications. This study reinterprets the concept of masquerade from Lacan's perspective and carries out an empirical analysis of masquerade characteristics in contemporary fashion photography based on the result drawn in parallel. Sexual masquerade shown in fashion photography based on the concept of masquerade is as follows: first, it appears as normative sexual description, divided into male and female by social norms; second, sexual ambiguity, obscuring the distinction between the sexes through playful and bombastic forms; and lastly, sexual subversion, disguising as the opposite sex through putting on clothes of the opposite sex.

  • The advent of the information age, advancement of the multi-media, and proliferation of internet are all ushering-in a new era of a cyber world. The artistic expression is unfolding into a new genre of a new era.. In the modern art, the boundary between the fine art and the applied art is becoming blurred, and further, distinction of fine art from popular art is also becoming meaningless. The advancement of science and technology, by offering new materials and visual forms, is contributing to the expansion of the morden art's horizon. As fashion illustration is gaining recognition as a form of art which mirrors today's realities, it has also become increasingly necessary to add variety and newness. Fashion illustration is thus becoming the visual language of the modern world, capable of conveying artistic emotion, and at the same time able to effectively communicate the image of fashion to the masses. The increasing awareness of artistic talent and ingenuity as essential components of fashion illustration is yielding greater fusion between fashion illustration and art & technology. This has resulted in the use of the advanced computer technology as a tool for crafting artistic expressions, such as fashion illustration, and this new tool has opened-up new possibilities for expressing images and colors. Further, the computer-aided fashion illustration is emerging as a new technique for expression. The concept of fashion illustration, history of fashion illustration from its incepton to modern date is reviewed and the simplicity has been researched throughout past studies published in Korean and overseas Journals.

남성복 의복구성교재에 나타난 핏 리뷰 (Fit Reviews on Patternmaking Textbooks for Menswear)

  • This paper presents an efficient method for generating informative apparel fit comments by analyzing 122 fit reviews found in 7 menswear patternmaking textbooks, which include both domestic and foreign sources. The fit reviews for menswear were categorized into top and bottoms, and the expressions varied based on body parts, causes, and fit issue appearances. The causes of fit issues could be attributed to size errors and structural errors in both top and bottoms. Both top and bottoms had fit reviews concerning unique body types, but it could cause trouble among learners as both were based on unclear criteria for body type classification and lacked relevant explanations. Common fit issue appearances included compound wrinkles, pulling wrinkles, sagging wrinkles, and garment being away from the body. No clear correlation was observed between the causes of fit issues and specific appearances. Limitations were identified in using textbooks as educational data, such as inconsistent solutions for different body types or fit issues, and the presence of ambiguous visual materials. As a result, strategies such as categorizing fit issue appearances, providing 3D visual examples with subcategorized causes, body types and parts could enhance quality of fit reviews and improve fit outcomes in clothing production systems.

Changes in Epistemological Beliefs in Chemistry Following Completion of Advanced Chemistry in Science High School Students

  • We studied the effects of science high school students on the change of epistemological beliefs in chemistry and the academic achievement of chemistry by completing 'advanced chemistry'. For seven months from July 2023 to January 2024, 80 first-year students at G Science High School in Gyeongnam were surveyed and analyzed for epistemological beliefs about chemistry before and after classes in advanced chemistry. Chemistry academic achievement was classified by 'upper' and 'lower' levels based on the end-of-semester grades of 'advanced chemistry' in the second semester of the first year and analyzed with the SPSS 28 program. After completing advanced chemistry, the epistemological belief in chemistry increased in the proportion of favorable responses. After completing advanced chemistry, the proportion of favorable responses increased in detailed factors such as 'effort', 'math link', 'outcome', 'reality link', and 'concepts', while the 'visualization' factor decreased. Although completing 'advanced chemistry' positively changed students' epistemological beliefs about chemistry, visual expression showed little contribution to understanding chemical concepts. Based on the above results, we will have to focus on the design of instructors' teaching-learning, such as learner-centered inquiry experiments, creative visual expressions, etc., for successful chemistry teaching-learning.

소설 『こころ』에 나타난 감정표현 '포(怖)'에 관한 번역 양상 - 한국어 번역 작품과 영어 번역 작품을 중심으로 - (A study about the aspect of translation on 'Hu(怖)' in novel 『Kokoro』 - Focusing on novels translated in Korean and English -)

  • 감정표현은 마음 의식의 내적 정태를 나타내는 것으로, 그 종류에는 '감정표현어휘', '고백표현', '문 구성', '간투사 표현', '사역 수동 수수 표현', '조사' '호칭', '문체 선택' 등이 제시되고 있다. 본고는 이러한 감정표현 가운데서 감정을 묘사하는 어휘를 중심으로, "こころ"에 나타난 '포(怖)'의 감정표현의 번역 양상을 '품사' '주어처리' '의미 분류'로 나누어 분석했다. 그 결과 '포(怖)'에 관한 번역 양상을 보면, 사전에 제시된 지시적 표현 이외에, '포(怖)'의 의미가 아닌 다른 표현, 다른 품사로도 번역되었음을 알 수 있었다. 일본어 문에서 사용된 '포(怖)'의 감정 어휘에 대해, 한국어역은 일부 '명사', '관용구', '부사+동사'를 제외하고는 대체로 일본어와 유사한 품사로 번역되었다. '명사'인 경우는 용언으로 풀어 설명한 후 강조 어휘를 더해 번역했으며, '부사+동사'는 2개 이상의 어휘가 이용된 어구로 번역되기도 했다. 상황에 따라 번역 어휘는 'Fear류(類)' 뿐 아니라 'Surprise류(類)'와 'Sadness류(類)'의 어휘까지도 다양하게 사용되었다. 영어 역의 경우, 한국어 역에서 보였던 것과 다른 양상을 보였다. 주로 '동사⇨동사, be+동사의 과거분사', '형용사⇨형용사, 동사, be+동사의 과거분사' '명사⇨be+동사의 과거분사'로 번역되었으며, 'Surprise류(類)', 'Anger류(類)', 'Fear류(類)' 등의 감정을 표현하는 어휘 외에 감정 주체의 상태를 표현할 수 있는 어휘까지 이용되는 등 매우 다양했다. 일본어 문의 감정 주체의 유무에 따른 한국어 역은 대체로 일본어 문과 유사한 문 구조로 번역되었고, 감정 주체가 생략된 3인칭인 일부 예에서는 생략된 요소가 복원 가능하도록 유도한 번역이 보였다. 영어 역을 보면, 일본어 문의 감정 주체의 생략 유무와 관계없이 감정 주체와 판단 주체까지도 복원했으며, 서술자 중심의 주어를 내세워 그에 따른 서술어를 선정해 번역하기도 했다. 그러나 주어 자리에는 반드시 감정을 느끼는 사람만 사용된 것이 아니라 사건, 행위, 감정의 요인 등이 사용되기도 했으며, 화자가 화자의 감정을 직접적으로 서술하기 보다는 주변 상황과 장면을 설명하면서 그로 인해 일어나는 감정을 서술한 경우도 있었다.
