  • Since the Human Genome Project(HGP) has begun in the mid 1980s, the sequencing of the human genome has been finally completed in 2001. The knowledge developed from the HGP has revolutionized how health care professionals think about patient care, mandating a new paradigm of patient care in totally inconceivable ways from the past. For instance, the patients at risk for disease can be identified early enough for intervention; the medicine can be tailored for individual patients based on their own genetic information ; the gene therapy could be a common procedure in the near future. The advancement in genetics, therefore, requires the shift of paradigm not only in nursing education, practice, but also in nursing research. It is attempted, in this article to introduce briefly the basic knowledge of genetics, the pharmacogenomics, and the overview of national genetic research initiated and organized by the Center for Functional Analysis of Human Genome in Korea. The current state of nursing genetic knowledge and its implications on nursing education, practice, and research has examined. Furthermore, the visions and the opportunities for nursing science and practice to participate in this genetic revolution were also explored.

  • Enterprise integration and virtual enterprise are practical visions of industrial information implementations in the information society. In these environments, the distributed and heterogeneous data sources should be exchanged and shared in effective and integrated way. However, the distributed and heterogeneous data sources are managed by independent and heterogeneous computer systems, thus system users and developers are faced difficulties in implementing enterprise integration environments, In this study, we designed and developed a database broker system utilizing a routing broker method to provide transparent location access mechanisms for the distributed and heterogeneous data sources. The proposed mechanism is designed to act as a middle tier between clients and multiple servers, and adopts Java, CORBA, and JDBC as its state-of-the-art techniques.

  • If we take account of the 'Architectural Tradition' which aims a construction of better environment, we can see that this tradition has ended historically toward Utopia. It is a continual trend from ancient Greece to contemporary epoch in each transitional periods and especially in the Renaissance Era. Utopia is an ideal commonwealth in which inhabitants exist under perfect conditions, ideally perfect places or state of things. The plans of utopia are complete projects of image, its goal is an social, political and economical improvement according to the eras. Its plans are characterized by rigid geometrical pattern as circle and square, which contain generally center axis symmetry enclosure. Recent urban and architectural circumstances no longer reflect utopian visions. Since the latter of the 20th century, it appears dystopia on the contrary. Therefore, the utopian ideal city and architecture describes characteristics of the era unlike the continuity of its concept.

  • The Iowa Chautauqua Program has provided effective staff development for over 2,700 K-12 science teachers during the past two decades. This is a review of the features of the program, its instructional staff, and a description of the outcomes as disclosed from evaluative studies conducted by staff, teacher participants, doctoral students, and outside evaluators. Examples of outcomes are included as revealed from the qualitative studies reported in newsletters, published papers, dissertations, annual staff reports, and evidences of success reported to accrediting groups. The Chautauqua stresses student-centeredness, constructivist learning, and the visions of reform featured in the National Science Education Standards.

  • During the first twenty-six years of its existence from 1954 to 1980, Keimyung University established on its Daemyung Campus a unique community of Western period-style buildings which recalls an old liberal arts college in America. During the first fifteen years, Keimyung built basically in the neo-Georgian style in accordance with the visions of the first two presidents, both of American nationality. During the next eleven years when Keimyung considerably expanded its facilities, it built in the neo-Classical style. The architecture of the Daemyung Campus is not without dynamism as it shows some efforts to integrate the expressions of the historical and the modern, culminating in the Main Library. The Daemyung Campus thus presents an interesting case study of how Western period-style architecture was assimilated in a provincial Korean city with a sense of an on-going building tradition.

  • This study aims at finding issues and ideas of waterfront planning through analysing planning concepts and characteristics of New York City Waterfront Comprehensive Plan(NYC WCP). The first NYC WCP in 1992 divided waterfront area as 4 functional areas which are natural, public, working and redeveloping waterfront. The characteristics of WCP in 1992 are zonning, height, setback, public access, visual corridor, floor area and so forth. After then NYC WCP revision in 2011 intergrated and developed the former plan through the eight visions which are expanding public access, enlivening the waterfront, improving water quality, restoring the natural waterfront, enhancing the Blue Network, improving government oversight and increasing climate resillience. In conclusion, NYC WCP successfully achieved both sufficient capacity of planning concepts and design guidelines for each region.

This study is realized that clothing has served to consolidate more then to segregate. While never losing the characteristics of its place of origin, clothing has shown itself a reading assimilated object portability and ephemerality promote investigation, at the very least. Eastern ideas of textile, design, construction, and utility has been realized again as a positive contribution to the culture of the West. The East offers a larger concept in alternative to the Western propensity for tailoring. In giving primacy to the textile, Eastern dress emphasizes the flat terrain of cloth, the looping and Wrapping of the garment, and the integrity of the untailored textile. There values, antithetical to postmedieval Western dress, have offered a paradigm of dressing and dressmaking to the West that has been sporadically Influential, and notably so in our time.

  • General stereo vision system shows things in 3D, using two visions of left and right side. When the viewpoints of left/right sides are not in accord with each other, it gives fatigue to human eyes and prevents them from having the 3-D feeling. Also, it would be difficult to track mobile objects that are not in the middle of a screen. Therefore, the object tracking function of stereo vision system is to control tracking objects to always be in the middle of a screen while controlling convergence angles of mobile objects in the input image of the left/right cameras. In this paper, object-tracker in stereo vision system is presented which would track mobile objects by using block matching algorithm of preprocessing and JTC.

Through the analysis of 106 questionnaires and individual depth interview with key member who is evaluated as core researcher and developer in their working project or has good results in the last 2-3 years, this study obtains the practical informations on the understandings of their professional consciousness and extend of turnover awareness etc. The findings are as follows. Two-thirds of the researcher has the mind of turnover to improve job stability and develop their career. They have an self-awareness that they are key member as a core competent person in working project and their organization, but are dissatisfied with the underestimation of their performances that are not recognized by the organization as they expected level. And the result indicates that many of them haven't find their visions in their organization.
