의복에서의 탈구조적 공간과 가시성에 대한 연구 -후세인 칼라얀의 디자인을 중심으로- (A Study on Deconstructured Space and Visibility in Clothes - Regarding Hussein Chalayan′s Design-)

  • Through his geometric design, the Cyprus born fashion designer Hussein Chalayan raises intriguing questions about the very fact of wearing clothes. By purposefully displacing the function of each part of the clothing, such as neck line, hem line, seam, sleeve, etc., Chalayan transforms the meaning of the body that wears clothes. of the human subject as a sovereign possessor of the clothing and the visibility related to fashion. This transformation is achieved by distorting the spaces of his clothing in an unorthodox way. This thesis argues that the significance of such a practice can not be properly understood without relation to the current debate on deconstructionism under way in humanities. Instead of immediately negating the modern frame of Ideas and practices, deconstructionism asks what the assumptions for the modern regime of truth is. In this process, things that lead human beings to sovereign master of knowledge and truth such as reason, subject, body and vision are questioned. In the same context, Chalayan's design not only forces us to rethink the very function of dividing inside and outside by the clothing but also the meaning of boundary operating in numerous sites of modern life. As the human subject is not something pre-given but constructed according to the cultural representation, to which the clothing belongs, fashion can be evaluated to be an active ingredient of constructing the subject. Therefore, Hussein Chalayan's design is at the cross road between the modern and the postmodern regime of fashion.

Algorithm Development of a Visibility Monitoring Technique Using Digital Image Analysis

  • Atmospheric visibility is one of the indicators used to evaluate the status of air quality. Based on a conceptual definition of visibility as the maximum distance at which the outline of the selected target can be recognized, an image analysis technique is introduced here and an algorithm is developed for visibility monitoring. Although there are various measurement techniques, ranging from bulk and precise instruments to naked eye observation techniques, each has their own limitations. In this study, a series of image analysis techniques were introduced and examined for in-situ application. An imaging system was built up using a digital camera and was installed on the study sites in Incheon and Seoul separately. Visual range was also monitored by using a dual technology visibility sensor in Incheon and transmissometer in Seoul simultaneously. The Sobel mask filter was applied to detect the edge lines of objects by extracting the high frequency from the digital image. The root mean square (RMS) index of variation among the pixels in the image was substantially correlated with the visual ranges in Incheon and Seoul with correlations of $R^2$=0.88 and $R^2$=0.71, respectively. The regression line equations between the visual range and the RMS index in Incheon and Seoul were VR=$2.36e^{0.46{\times}(RMS)}$ and VR=$3.18e^{0.15{\times}(RMS)}$, respectively. It was also confirmed that the fine particles ($PM_{2.5}$) have more impacts to the impairment of visibility than coarse particles.

CCTV 카메라를 이용한 실시간 도로시정 측정 (Real-time Road-Visibility Measurement Using CCTV Camera)

  • 도로상의 안개로 인한 시정감소는 교통사고를 유발하는 주된 원인으로 운전자에게 도로의 시정거리를 미리 알려주어 안전운행을 유도하기 위한 안개경고시스템에서는 대부분 안개센서와 같은 고가의 광학센서를 사용하고 있다. 최근 운전자의 시정감각과 유사하면서도 저렴한 카메라를 이용한 시정측정에 관한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 그러나 기존의 연구는 별도의 표지나 ROI를 기반으로 하고 있으므로 설치가 어렵고 비용이 많이 들며 도로에 기 설치된 CCTV 시스템을 활용하기 어렵다는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 도로상에 설치된 카메라 영상을 이용하여 주야간 실시간 시정측정이 가능한 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 도로모델을 구축하고 카메라 영상으로부터 차량의 이동영역과 가시선을 검출한 후 도로모델에 적용함으로써 매우 쉽고 빠른 시정의 계산이 가능하다. 제안된 방법은 운전자의 시정감각과 유사한 주야간 시정측정이 가능할 뿐만 아니라 시정표지와 같은 부가적인 시설을 사용할 필요가 없고 기존의 CCTV 시스템에 바로 적용할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 중부내륙고속도로에서 획득한 영상을 이용한 실험결과를 통해 본 연구의 현장적용 가능성과 활용방안을 제시하고 신뢰성 검증을 위한 향후 연구방향을 기술한다.

누적가시도 분석을 이용한 신라시대의 산성 입지와 감시체계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Surveillance System and the Location of Fortress of the Sil-la Dynasty by a Cumulative Visibility Analysis)

  • 본 연구는 상호가시성 분석을 통해 신라산성의 입지와 감시체계를 해석하였다. 분석을 위해 Arcview 3.2에서 $10{\times}10m$ 그리드의 지형표고모형이 제작되고, 명활산성, 남산신성, 서형산성 등의 위치가 표시되었다. 4개의 연구결과가 도출되었다. 첫째, 신라 왕도(538개 조망점)의 누적가시도(cumulative visibility, 累積可視度)에서 왕도에 면한 산성구간이 높은 피시빈도(被視頻度)를 보였다. 이는 산성이 왕도에 대한 가시를 확보하고 있음을 의미한다. 둘째, 3개 산성별 누적가시도에서 산성의 내부지역은 전시에 지휘가 유리하고, 외부지역은 산성간 상호감시체계가 형성되었음을 밝혔다. 셋째, 3개 산성 합산 누적가시도에서 산성이 없는 왕도 북쪽에서 높은 피시빈도가 나타났다. 왕도 북쪽은 명활과 서형산성에서 적군의 감시와 지원이 용이한 4km 내외에 포함된다. 신라 왕도는 산성으로 인해 견고한 감시체계를 형성하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 넷째, 효율적인 감시와 방어를 위해 산성이 왕도에서 봉우리로 상승하며 입지되었음을 추론하였다. 이는 7~8부 능선 입지설을 대체할 수 있는 실용적 산성 입지설이 될 것이다. 본 연구에서 사용한 누적가시도 분석기법은 추후 경관고고학적 입지 분석에 실증적인 도구가 될 것이다.

출발점과 목표점을 일반화 가시성그래프로 표현된 맵에 포함하기 위한 빠른 알고리즘 (Fast algorithm for incorporating start and goal points into the map represented in a generalized visibility graph)

  • 가시성그래프는 최소 탐색 공간으로 게임환경을 모델링하여 효과적으로 길을 찾을 수 있도록 하는 방법으로 잘 알려져 있다. 일반화 가시성그래프는 가시성그래프의 가장 큰 단점으로 지적되는 "벽-껴안기" 문제를 해결하기 위해 확장된 장애물의 경계 위에 생성된 가시성그래프이다. 일반화 가시성그래프에 의해 구해진 경로는 근사 최적이며 자연스럽게 보이는 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 변화하는 출발점과 목표점과 정적인 장애물 사이를 움직이는 게임 캐릭터에 효과적으로 일반화 가시성그래프를 적용하는 방법을 제안한다. 일반화 가시성그래프는 일단 생성되면 최소 탐색공간을 보장하지만 그 생성 자체는 노드사이의 링크의 교차 여부론 일일이 체크하여야 하므로 시간이 많이 소요된다. 아이디어는 먼저 정적인 장애물만으로 지도를 생성해 놓고 출발점과 목표점을 빠르게 포함시키는 것이다. 출발점과 목표점의 포함 부분이 여러 번 반복되어야 하는 과정이므로 출발점과 목표점을 빠르게 포함시키는데에 연산 기하학 분야의 회전 plane-sweep 알고리즘을 이용할 것을 제안한다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 전체 그래프를 매번 생성하는 것보다 제안한 방법의 실행시간이 39%-68% 정도 향상되었음을 보여준다.

Exploration of Isovist Fields to Model 3D Visibility With Building Facade

  • Visibility of a space have been defined in several different ways: such as the axial line covering a convex space, a convex space defining the fattest shape in a space and an Isovist field formed by a field of vision at a given vantage point. Isovist fields are referred to as a descriptive medium to describe a movement by reviewing and analyzing geometric properties in them. Many descriptive methods for analysis of three-dimensional isovist are applied to analyzing the morphological properties in a 3D space more realistically. Although these models are regarded as a more advanced method for describing spatial properties, they have pros and cons such as complex mathematical calculations and somewhat arbitrary calibration in addition to huge consumption of memory space. These difficulties lead to the development of a three-dimensional visual accessibility model that explores the implication of building shape on the calculation of isovist fields drawn on a 2D plane. We propose a conceptual framework of how to measure the isovist field not as a 3D volume but as a combination of 2D plane on the ground with the 3D building shape of it's facade.

Reducing the Search Space for Pathfinding in Navigation Meshes by Using Visibility Tests

  • A navigation mesh (NavMesh) is a suitable tool for the representation of a three-dimensional game world. A NavMesh consists of convex polygons covering free space, so the path can be found reliably without detecting collision with obstacles. The main disadvantage of a NavMesh is the huge state space. When the $A^*$ algorithm is applied to polygonal meshes for detailed terrain representation, the pathfinding can be inefficient due to the many states to be searched. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the number of states searched by using visibility tests to achieve fast searching even on a detailed terrain with a large number of polygons. Our algorithm finds the visible vertices of the obstacles from the critical states and uses the heuristic function of $A^*$, defined as the distance to the goal through such visible vertices. The results show that the number of searched states can be substantially reduced compared to the $A^*$ search with a straight-line distance heuristic.

Volume Rendering using Grid Computing for Large-Scale Volume Data

  • In this paper, we propose a volume rendering method using grid computing for large-scale volume data. Grid computing is attractive because medical institutions and research facilities often have a large number of idle computers. A large-scale volume data is divided into sub-volumes and the sub-volumes are rendered using grid computing. When using grid computing, different computers rarely have the same processor speeds. Thus the return order of results rarely matches the sending order. However order is vital when combining results to create a final image. Job-Scheduling is important in grid computing for volume rendering, so we use an obstacle-flag which changes priorities dynamically to manage sub-volume results. Obstacle-Flags manage visibility of each sub-volume when line of sight from the view point is obscured by other subvolumes. The proposed Dynamic Job-Scheduling based on visibility substantially increases efficiency. Our Dynamic Job-Scheduling method was implemented on our university's campus grid and we conducted comparative experiments, which showed that the proposed method provides significant improvements in efficiency for large-scale volume rendering.

컴퓨터 기반 실내실험을 통한 고속도로 차선의 적정 규격 (Appropriate Dimension of Freeway Lane Marking using Computer Based Laboratory Experiment)

  • PURPOSES : It is well known that experts determined the current standard dimensions of freeway lane markings. However, rigorous engineering rationale could be insufficient regarding whether or not the standard dimensions account for how visible the markings are to the driver. In this study, we seek to optimize the dimensions of freeway lane markings to improve their visibility to drivers. METHODS : The study was conducted as follows. First, alternative lane marking dimensions were selected which could be installed in a test construction site. Second, a video recording was made while driving on the test construction site. Third, subjects were shown the recorded video and then instructed to indicate their preference from among the various lane markings. Lastly, t-tests were applied to assess the statistical significance of differences in the preferences expressed. RESULTS : According to the t-test results, there was no significant difference in the preferences expressed regarding the lane marking widths. However, with regard to the dimensions of freeway lane marking, which represents line marking lengths, gap lengths, and widths of marking, the subjects expressed a preference for specific dimensions such as 6 m:12 m,13 cm, 8 m:12 m,10 cm and 6 m:12 m,10 cm. CONCLUSIONS : In considering the dimensions of freeway lane markings and their relation to visibility by the driver, it was found that dimensions such as 6 m:12 m,13 cm, 8 m:12 m,10 cm and 6 m:12 m,10 cm.

공간합성된 초음파 의료영상에서 FIR 필터를 이용한 심라인 감소방법 (Reduction of Seam Line Using an FIR Filter in Spatially Compounded Ultrasonic Diagnostic Images)

  • A method to reduce seam line artifact in spatial compounding of ultrasonic images is presented. Spatial compounding is a speckle reducing imaging technique in which a number of ultrasound images of a given target that have been obtained from multiple view angles are combined into a single compounded image by combining the data received from each data point in the compounded image. Since different view angle results in different view area, and the images of different view arms are combined into an image, the compounded image consists of regions with different signal to noise ratio, and the boundary lines between these regions are visible as seam lines in the compounded images. In this paper, we present an algorithm that reduces the visibility of this seam line in the spatially compounded images. Design procedure for a FIH filter is described and the results of applying the filter to in-vivo ultrasonic images are analyzed.
