In the pressure swirl atomizer, the liquid is injected through tangential passages into a swirl chamber, from which it emerges with both tangential and axial velocity components to form a thin conical sheet at the nozzle exit. This sheet rapidly attenuates, finally disintegrating into ligaments and then drops. The purpose of this study is to measure the spray characteristics according to variation of viscosity of the spray produced by the pressure swirl atomizer. The nozzle tested here were especially designed for this investigation. The discharge coefficient is determined by measuring the volume flow rate with a flow meter and the cone angle of the liquid sheets issuing from the nozzle is obtained from series of photographs of the sheet for various liquid viscosity and injection pressure. And mean drop size is measured by image processing method. It is found that the geometrical characteristics of the nozzle and the variation of viscosity were the influential parameters to determine the spray characteristics such as the cone angle, discharge coefficients and SMD.
Effect of pH, calcium, sucrose, heating and mixing ratio of soy and cow milk was studied on the viscosity and the sensory characteristics of cow-soy milk. The viscosity of soymilk was significantly affected by pH with showing maximum at 6.0 and the pH effect was decreased as the ratio of cow talk increased. A addition of sucrose or calcium affected little on the viscosity and a negative linear relationship was found be tween viscosity and an increase in cow milk ratio. Sensory characteristics of grassy and beany odor and taste of soymilk were rapidly decreased and nutty flavor and total acceptability were increased during initial 30 min of boiling. A further increase in boiling affected little on tastes and odors of soymilk. The beany odor and taste linearly decreased and milk flavor Increased as the ratio of cow milk increased. The total acceptability of 50 : 50 was found to be maximum for cow and soy mixed milks.
In order to investigate the effect of Qingbaozhuyutang(淸胞逐瘀湯), Bee Veenom on 'Blood Stasis Pattern', here We regard Thrombosis and Elevated Blood viscosity as Blood Stasis Pattern. rats were injected Endotoxin into the caudal vein to make experimental thrombosis model(control group), and at sample group, rats were orally administrated solid extract of Qingbaozhuyutang(淸胞逐瘀湯) 0.5g/200g or were injected Apitoxin 1mg/Kg into the abdominal region(sample group), and then we observed platelet, fibrinogen, prothrombin time and FDP level. Another group were injected HA into the muscular rump to make experimental elevated blood viscosity instead of Endotoxin. Thereafter we measured whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Platelets were increased significantly in sample I compared with the control group. 2. Fibrinogen levels were increased significantly in sample I compared with the control group. 3. Prothrombin times were shortened significantly in sample II and sample III compared with the control group. 4. FDP levels were decreased significantly in sample II and sample III compared with the control group. 5. Whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity were decreased significantly in all shear rates compared with the control group. According to the above results, it is considered that Qingbaozhuyutang(淸胞逐瘀湯) has significant effects on platelets, fibrinogens, prothrombin times, FDP levels, whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosities, therefore it seems to be applicable to disease related to 'Blood Stasis Pattern' through the thrombosis and elevated blood viscosity. But, Veenom has a little effect. the mechanism concerned for the effects is to be investigated in future.
In this study, we consider the effect of nonionic surfactants on the rheological responses of emulsion systems under the action of a uniform do electric field. The model emulsions consist of a less conducting dispersed phase and a more conducting continuous phase. When the shear flow is weak, the positive viscosity effect is produced due to the formation of chain-like morphology. The nonionic surfactants used here generate two distinctively different effects. Specifically, first, the steric hindrance induced by the surfactant molecules renders the structure unstable, and thereby reduces the degree of positive viscosity effect. Secondly, the presence of surfactant molecules also prevents the rotation of the dispersed droplets by anchoring across the interface or by decreasing the size of dispersed phase. The second effect suppresses the negative viscosity effect.
In this study, the 1D apparent shear stress model for vegetated compound open-channel flows was suggested. To consider the effect of momentum exchange between main channel and floodplain, the eddy viscosity concept was used in the present model. The interfacial eddy viscosity in the interface of main channel and floodplain was determined from the 3D Reynolds stress model. The evaluated interfacial eddy viscosity appears to be good agreement with those proposed previously. To investigate the effect of interfacial eddy viscosity, sensitive analysis was carried out. the computed backwater profiles are nearly identical with respect to the value of the interfacial eddy viscosity. However, the discharge conveyed by the floodplain changes is proportional to the interfacial eddy viscosity. Finally, the changes of the interfacial eddy viscosity due to the vegetation density and vegetation height were examined. The computed results of interfacial eddy viscosity are in proportion to the vegetation density and vegetation height, and the interfacial eddy viscosity has a range of $(2-5)\;{\times}\;10^{-4}$.
In order investigate the effect of Boyanghwanotang (BT) on thrombosis, Sprague-Dawley rats injected endotoxin into the caudal vein were oral administrated solid extract of BT-182. 4mg/200g (Sample A) and 364.8mg/200g (Sample B), and then observed Platelet, fibrinogen, prothrombin time and FDP. Another group injected hydrocortisone acetate into the muscular rump were adopted to observe the effect of BT on elevated blood Viscosity, administrated Sample A and Sample B, thereafter measured body weight, body temperature, whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, hematocrit, RBC, WBC, hemoglobin, glucose, albumin, total protein, triglyceride, cholesterol and prothrombin time. 1. Platelet was increased significantly in Sample B compared with the control group. 2. Fibrinogen of the trial groups compared with the control group was increased, and revealed a significance in Sample B. 3. Prothrombin time was decreased significantly in the trial groups compared with the control group. 4. FDP was decreased in the trial groups compared with the control group. 5. Body weight was increased significantly in Sample B after 7 days, body temperature revealed a significance in the trial groups after 5 days. 6. Whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity of lower shear rates, both were highly decreased in the trial groupn than the control group. 7. The increase of WBC and decrease of hematocrit, RBC and hemoglobin was showed in the trial groups, and Sample B revealed a significance on the increase of WBC and decrease of RBC. 8. The increase of prothrombin time and decrease of glucose, albumin, total protein, triglyceride and cholesterol was showed in the trial group, and Sample B revealed a Significance on the increase of prothrombin time and decrease of albumin, total protein and triglyceride. 9. As compare with Sample A and Sample B, generally Sample B was highly Significant. According to the above results, it was considered that Boyanghwanotang may be the curative effects for thrombosis and elevated blood viscosity.
In the entrained-flow coal gasifier, coal ash turns into a molten slag most of which deposits onto the wall to form liquid and solid layers. Critical viscosity refers to the viscosity at the interface of the two layers. The slag layers play an important role in protecting the wall from physical/chemical attack from the hot syngas and in continuously discharging the ash to the slag tap at the bottom of the gasifier. For coal with high ash melting point and slag viscosity, CaO-based flux is added to coal to lower the viscosity. This study evaulates the effect of critical viscosity temperature and ash/flux ratio on the slag behavior using numerical modelling in a commercial gasifier. The changes in the slag layer thickness, heat transfer rate, surface temperature and velocity profiles were analyzed to understand the underlying mechanism of slag flow and heat transfer.
This paper deals with the theoretical study on the effect of the viscosity of an adjacent viscous fluid on the characteristics of the torsional vibration of a rod with fixed-free boundary conditions. Expressions for the natural frequency and damping factor have been obtained as functions of the viscosity of the fluid by exact and asymptotic analyses. The results provide quantitative information of the natural frequency reduction and damping rate affected by the fluid viscosity.
Undesirable convective flow in an NMR tube inhibits the accurate measurement of diffusion coefficients by NMR spectroscopy. To minimize the convection effects, various methods have been suggested, and it has been known that the use of sample rotation can be useful. However, it has not been clearly examined that the convection suppressing effect of the sample rotation under the different spinning speeds. In this study, the relation between convective flow and the sample rotation was investigated using PGSE NMR diffusion experiments to reveal the feasibility for controlling the convective flow in an NMR tube by sample rotation itself. The viscosity effect was also examined using solvents with four different viscosities, acetone-$d_6$ chloroform-d, pyridine-$d_5$, and $D_2O$. The sample rotation showed apparent convection suppressing effects at all temperature range for the low viscosity solvents, acetone-$d_6$ and chloroform-d, even at the faster than 5 Hz spinning rate. The similar patterns were also observed for pyridine-$d_5$ and $D_2O$, which have higher viscosity. This effect was observed even at high temperatures where convective flow arises conspicuously.
