  • Most of virtual reality systems ask users to control 3D objects or to navigate 3D world using 3D controllers. To maximize the human performance in the control, the design of virtual reality system and its input and output devices should be optimized. In this study, an experiment was designed to investigate the effects of three resolution factors of a virtual reality system on the human performance. Six subjects conducted the experiment for the factors; two frame rates, three spatial resolutions, and three pictorial contents. The result showed that the greater the spatial resolution was, the higher the human performance was. For the temporal resolution, fixed frame rate at 18 Hz was better than the varied maximized frame rate. For the pictorial contents, the virtual space with orientation cues marked the greatest performance than the other two conditions; the virtual space without any orientation cue and the virtual space like real world. These results could be applied for the design of virtual reality systems.

  • This study aims to analyze remediation of games and fictions in Korean virtual reality game fictions and to derive the storytelling of virtual reality game fictions through them. The purpose of this study is to explore the possibilities that Korean game fiction based on the web can be expanded as popular literature. The main character of the fiction is a male in his twenties. In the neoliberal society, he is set as a member of the neglected class and lacking privilege. He enters the virtual world because of the deficiency experienced in the real world. It minimizes the mediation process between the real world and the interface. On the other hand, the repetitive actions performed by the protagonist belong to the category of self - destructive labor. As a result, he shows signs of narcissism. In the Korean virtual reality game fiction, the magic circle appears blurred, and the real world and the virtual world are linked. In this process, the virtual world functions as a substitute space to solve the problem of reality. The establishment of such a space, and the resolution of conflicts are merely narrative characteristics of Korean game fictions that are different from North America and Europe.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the difference of sense of self-efficacy and stress encountering strategy of university students under the stress situation depending on the smart-phone user group (addiction group, general user group). For this purpose, the study issues are established as follows. First, it has analyzed what is the correlation of smart-phone addiction, sense of self-efficacy, and stress encountering strategy. Second, it has studied if there is any difference of sense of self-efficacy and stress encountering strategy for the smart-phone user group. In order to verify such study issues, For 1,670 university students in the Chungcheong area, smart-phone addiction scale, sense of self-efficacy scale, and stress encountering method scale were administered. Looking into the study result, first, as a result of the relativity analysis, it displayed the correlation of preference of test difficulty, self-control efficacy and important negative from the smart-phone addiction and sense of self-efficacy. In addition, all sub-variables of smart-phone addiction and avoidance orientation from the stress encountering strategy displayed the important positive correlation, and from the smart-phone addiction, the virtual world orientation and pursuit of social-support displayed the important negative correlations, and all sub-variables (interference with ordinary living, virtual world striving direction, withdrawal, resistance) of smart-phone addiction and problem solving-orientation displayed the negative correlation. Second, as a result of verification for the difference of the smart-phone addiction group and general use group following the sense of self-efficacy, the general use group is shown to have higher self-control efficacy sense than the addiction group. And third, as a result of verifying the difference of stress encountering following the smart-phone addiction group and general use group, the addiction group is shown to be lower than the general use group in terms of social support pursuit and problem solution orientation with the avoidance orientation shown to be higher. This type of result is expected to provide the base data when developing the smart-phone addiction preventive education program by finding out in details for the characteristics of smart-phone addiction group for university students.

  • The virtual world is simulated in terms of agents and the environment as the real world. Agents are able to perceive and recognize objects as well as components of the environmental elements in the virtual world. As a result, they are able to autonomously act in terms of their decision. They generate diverse situation that make the user to feel familiarity as they would be have like human beings. Such situations are constructed in terms of the concepts of the entities, relations and activities, and agents accordingly recognize the situations in terms of these concepts. In this paper, we propose the method to recognize and represent the shapes which are the most important feature among objects. Various shapes are represented in terms of primitive shapes and their spatial relations in depth. We use distance, direction, and orientation in order to represent basic spatial relation. In order to simplify basic signal processing, objects dynamically send messages of self information to agents, and refer to ontology as the knowledge base of the virtual world. Agents perceive the information from objects by comparing with schematic knowledge and instance knowledge in ontology.

  • Representation of various types of information in an interactive virtual reality environment on mobile devices had been an attractive and valuable research in this new era. Our main focus is presenting spatial indoor location sensing information in 3D perception in mind to replace the traditional 2D floor map using handheld PDA. Designation of 3D virtual reality by Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) demonstrates its powerful ability in providing lots of useful positioning information for PDA user in real-time situation. Furthermore, by interpolating portal culling algorithm would reduce the 3D graphics rendering time on low power processing PDA significantly. By fully utilizing the CC2420 chipbased sensor nodes, wireless sensor network was established to locate user position based on Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) signals. Implementation of RSSI-based indoor tracking method is low-cost solution. However, due to signal diffraction, shadowing and multipath fading, high accuracy of sensing information is unable to obtain even though with sophisticated indoor estimation methods. Therefore, low complexity and flexible accuracy refinement algorithm was proposed to obtain high precision indoor sensing information. User indoor position is updated synchronously in virtual reality to real physical world. Moreover, assignment of magnetic compass could provide dynamic orientation information of user current viewpoint in real-time.

  • This paper proposes an elliptical world-modeling mehtrod in order to secure the safety of the mobile robot from the unreliability of ultrasonic sensors and to estimate the lateral orientation of the detected objects. This method is advnatageous because the total amount of data that the robot utilizes is reduced when historical and new data are clusterd during each sensing period and also because the objects in the environment can be almost exactly recognized. This paper also proposes a new local path planning algorithm which is divided into four different situations and gudies the robot through the safe local path using dat acollected in elliptical form. This algorithm can help the AMR navigate by allowing it to sum up the virtual vector forces made form the ellipses in order to select a safe subgoal. This local path plannin gmehtod using the elliptical world model has been proved by several navigation experiments.

  • In this paper, we present a hybrid inertial and vision-based tracking system for VR applications. One of the most important aspects of VR (Virtual Reality) is providing a correspondence between the physical and virtual world. As a result, accurate and real-time tracking of an object's position and orientation is a prerequisite for many applications in the Virtual Environments. Pure vision-based tracking has low jitter and high accuracy but cannot guarantee real-time pose recovery under all circumstances. Pure inertial tracking has high update rates and full 6DOF recovery but lacks long-term stability due to sensor noise. In order to overcome the individual drawbacks and to build better tracking system, we introduce the fusion of vision-based and inertial tracking. Sensor fusion makes the proposal tracking system robust, fast, accurate, and low jitter and noise. Hybrid tracking is implemented with Kalman Filter that operates in a predictor-corrector manner. Combining bluetooth serial communication module gives the system a full mobility and makes the system affordable, lightweight energy-efficient. and practical. Full 6DOF recovery and the full mobility of proposal system enable the user to interact with mobile device like PDA and provide the user with natural interface.
