  • People could possess different self-identity under virtual world from physical world because of anonymity of the virtual world and this difference could influence their behavior in the virtual world. Based on self-discrepancy theory, this research proposes that continuous use model in self-expression goal. We defined the difference bet ween actual self~identity and ideal self~identity in the virtual world as "self-discrepancy in virtual world", and the difference between actual self-identity in the physical world and actual self-identity in the virtual world as "cross-world self-discrepancy". Before testing hypothesis, we compare the actual self-identity in the online community with the actual self-identity in the physical world, and with ideal self-identity in the virtual world. We derived an index for two different types of self-identity in terms of Personal Self-identity and Social Self-identity through factor analysis. Our results show that online community members have a higher level of ideal self-identity than actual self-identity in online community, and they have better personal self-identity in online community than physical world while a lower level of social self-identity in online community than physical world. The results of the hypothesis testing analysis based on 300 respondents showed that "self-discrepancy in virtual world" negatively influenced perceived usefulness for self-expression while "cross-world self-discrepancy" positively influenced perceived usefulness for self-expression. The perceived usefulness for self-expression and ease of use positively influence both continuous use and knowledge contribution. Specially, the effect of perceived usefulness for self-expression on knowledge contribution is much bigger than the effect of ease of use. This study extends self-discrepancy theory to virtual worlds by suggesting various types of self-discrepancy and by applying the effect of self-discrepancies in online community. Also, this study extends technology acceptance model in the personal goal in terms of self-expression. This study hopes to offer practical insights by suggesting positive effect of self-discrepancy on behavior in the online community.

  • A virtual reality system must provide participants with a natural interaction, a sufficient immersion, and mostly, realistic images. To achieve this, it is crucial to provide a fast and uniform rendering speed regardless of the complexity of virtual worlds, or the complexity of simulation. In this paper, a virtual reality system which offers an improved rendering performance for complex virtual reality applications has been designed and implemented. The key idea of the proposed system is to exploit the multi-thread scheme in system module design, and execute each modules in parallel. Taking such design approach, rendering, simulation, and interaction can be executed independently. Hence, in applications where a simulation is complex or a scene is very large, this system can provide a more uniform and faster frame rates. The proposed method has been experimented under the various application environments in which scenes and simulations are very complex.

  • A virtual science experience space(VSES) using virtual reality technology including haptic device is proposed to overcome limits which the existing science education has and to improve the effect of it. Four example scientific worlds such as Micro World, Friction World, Electromechanical World and Macro World are demonstrated by the developed VSES. Van der Waals forces in Micro World and Stick-Slip friction in Friction World, the principle of induction motor and power generator in Electromechanical World and Coriolis acceleration that is brought about by relative motion on the rotating coordinate are modeled mathematically based on physical principles. Emulation methods for haptic interface are suggested. The proposed VSES consists of haptic device, HMD or Crystal Eyes and a digital computer with stereoscopic graphics and GUI. The proposed system is believed to increase the realism and immersion for user.

  • The positioning technology that measures the position of a person or object is a key technology to deal with the location of the real coordinate system or converge the real and virtual worlds, such as digital twins, augmented reality, virtual reality, and autonomous driving. In estimating the location of a person or object at an indoor construction site, there are restrictions that it is impossible to receive location information from the outside, the communication infrastructure is insufficient, and it is difficult to install additional devices. Therefore, this study tested the direct sparse odometry algorithm, one of the visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM) that estimate the current location and surrounding map using only image information, at an indoor construction site and analyzed its applicability as an indoor positioning technology. As a result, it was found that it is possible to properly estimate the surrounding map and the current location even in the indoor construction site, which has relatively few feature points. The results of this study can be used as reference data for researchers related to indoor positioning technology for construction sites in the future.

  • Generally, feature of real world as 2-dimensional information of point, line and polygon achieve a GIS function from 2-dimensional GIS. But at enduring the geography elements which exist when it is composed of 3-dimensional spatial information it is abstracted with 2-dimensional which will reach, the loss of many information and 2-dimensional GIS of existing the basic limit exists md, Accordingly, 3-dimensional geography elements of the real world even at the computer controlling with 3-dimensional geography element original it will be able to minimize the loss of information which it keeps, for 3-dimensional expression and the analysis against the natural facility and the artificial facility of the real world it is the actual condition whose 3-dimensional GIS of ultimate form are necessary. This study was 2-dimensional feature a point the line and polygon and 3-dimensional spatial data information as the method for to use the VRML(Virtual Reality Modeling Language), 3-dimensional virtual worlds for 3-dimensional GIS applications to create and hereafter various decision making of at connection web more efficient and the possibility of doing in vision in order to be, it drew up a spatial database.

  • This paper describes a new visual VR authoring tool called DEVISE (Drawing Environment for VR-based Inquiry-learning Science Education) which is designed to support scientific inquiry learning. DEVISE allows users with no programming expertise to easily build the science inquiry learning VR contents by using 2D drawing interface to place 3D objects and specify properties of the virtual worlds or objects. This paper first describes the related works of VR authoring tools and inquiry learning virtual environments. It also explains SASILE, an integrated virtual environment system for supporting science inquiry learning, and its problems. Then, it describes DEVISE system components and its workflow, and it discusses the observation results of user evaluations of developing science inquiry-learning VR contents.

  • In this paper, we present a novel approach to efficiently control the location of NPC(Non-playable characters) in the interactive virtual world such as game, virtual reality. To control the NPC's movement path, we first calculate the main trajectory based on the user's path, and then move the NPC based on the weight map. Our method constructs automatically a navigation mesh that provides new paths for NPC by referencing the user trajectories. Our method enables adaptive changes to the virtual world over time and provides user-preferred path weights for smartagent path planning. We have tested the usefulness of our algorithm with several example scenarios from interactive worlds such as video games, virtual reality. In practice, our framework can be applied easily to any type of navigation in an interactive world.

  • Metaverse is at the center of heated debates in many areas recently. Coupled with real world, metaverse is extending its domain into social and cultural activities in addition to economic value creation as untact activities increase. Global companies are investing in R&D for metaverse. The reason is that metaverse is supposed to create new value by converging virtual and real worlds thanks to technology advancement such as AI, big data, 3D graphic, 5G, cloud computing, etc. Thus, innovative changes are expected in the economic, social and cultural areas. However, there are many problems to be solved yet for connecting virtual world and real one. Also, epoch-making development of products and services should be done for realistic experience and profit creation using virtual space in various industries beyond untact social activities against pandemic situation. The essence, present condition, development and its application areas of metaverse will be analyzed, and expected problems researched so that the strategy and methodology for securing global competitiveness will be addressed in coming metaverse era.

  • Extended Reality (XR) is an immersive technology that combines the real and virtual worlds and is being actively researched across various industries. This study proposes a method for utilizing the Meta Quest 3, a head-mounted display (HMD) that provides mixed reality, outdoors for the first time by leveraging the GPS information from a smartphone. Augmented virtual objects are positioned using location information and the orientation. Additionally, by using the features of the Meta Quest 3, virtual objects are made to appear alongside the real world, allowing users to interact with virtual objects through hand gestures. This study aims to link present and past spaces by using location information and photographs on the HMD, providing a novel experience of freely traversing time and space.
