A purpose of this study is to develop practical indexes for improving a village environment in Kyongbuk, Korea. From a questionnaire survey of the public employees (71 persons) who take charge of the environment in Kyongbuk province, the indexes were produced and the contents of questionnaire consisted of preferential and supplementary indexes to apply. The preferential indexes which apply to an agricultural village and a stock raising village are environmental sanitation facilities, a hygienic check of livestock and a purge of livestock shed's surroundings. In case of mountainous village, and natural-ecological village the preferential indexes are habitat reservation for wildlife, poaching prohibition (monitoring for it), and food supplement for livestock. To the traditional-cultural village, prevention of noise pollution, environmental sanitation facilities, and a monitoring or water quality change are the prior indexes in order. For the village near city and the industrial village the preferential indexes are patrol removing of garbage, pollution index planting and monitoring for noise pollution. For a fishing village and a village fronting waterside excess uses of agricultural chemicals, monitoring for a water quality change, and realignment of green house with vinyl and warehouse. In conclusion the research presents the practical and preferential index for residents to improve their environment in accordance with village settings and suggests guidelines for further research.
Korean Folk Village was founded in 1974 as the first open-air museum in Korea. It consists of over one hundred traditional Korean houses and buildings. Most of structures in the Village were reproduced or newly constructed in traditional style. Some houses were used as craft shop and folklore performance. Preservation of vernacular architecture by the government began in the late 1960s in Korea. The development of the Village was initiated by the central government for the sake of attracting both the foreign and domestic tourists. Park Chung-hee administration focused on national culture to justify their dictatorship. The government drove a very rapid economic growth in the 1970s and Korean society was in the midst of modernization leaving many traditional landscapes behind in the memory. The Village was aimed to appeal the Korean people's nostalgia and at the same time to combine their folk into the modern nation.
The purpose of this study was to identify remained real state of the village groves in human settlement circle. That was practiced in case of Chinan-Gun region which traditional elements had well been conserved. 33 village groves were found by site survey, reference and interview in Chinan-Gun region. 31 of 51 village groves were clarified as complementing village grove by classification of grove character. It was identified through survey that many were partially destructed by development and human overuse. The results of this study showed general, socio-behavioral characteristics, characteristics of forest state and vegetation structure of village groves in Chinan-Gun region. Length, area, form, type, motive, location, relationship of those were analyzed to identify general characteristics. Facilities, human behavior and ownership of those were analyzed to identify socio-behavioral characteristics. Principal dominant species and appearing rate, height, width, density of those, species diversity of groves were analyzed to identify forest state and vegetation structure. Interrelation between each factor were analyzed and comparative review with previous studies was achieved.
This study was performed with 239 dwellers who live in the city, visited rural tourism village. This study investigated the relationship of servicescape perception of rural tourism village and tourist satisfaction and behavior intention. The servicescape factors of rural tourism village consist of artificial factors and social factors. Social factors affect more total satisfaction, service satisfaction and environmental satisfaction more than artificial factors, but facilities satisfaction is more affected by artificial factors than Social factors. Total satisfaction and service satisfaction and environmental satisfaction influence behavior intention but facilities satisfaction does not. Total satisfaction has the biggest influence on behavior intention. This means that for successful rural tourism village development, social factors should be considered than artificial factors.
The purpose of this study is on monitoring complementary forest of village according to restoration project. Accordingly, this study was accomplished in case of Dubang complementary forest of village in Wanju-gun which was indicated as beautiful village forest by Korean government. This study describes the restoration project and identifies the change of species diversity and succession through monitoring. For this, vegetational survey was performed in 2003 and 2010. D(Dominant degree) and S(Sociability degree) was measured by Brown-Blanquet's method. The results demonstrate significant increase of species diversity and progress of natural succession. It means ecological structure and function have improved. Also ecological disturbance appears here and there on account of insufficient management.

The subjects were 85 old residents who were more than 60 years old and lived in rural area in Gyungnam. The interview was carried out using a questionnaire, models, and isometrics of two alternatives. The subjects evaluated positively both of two alternatives. The design guidelines of village community center were derived as follows: Both of two alternatives can be used as a model of village community center. The dining and living space in the center should be opened and large. Both of indoor and outdoor toilet should be arranged in village community center. This study was conducted to establish inventory and propose conservation strategy of 'village wetlands' in Cheonan. As results, the village wetlands are defined as such places as palustrine wetland, village embankment, agricultural reservoir or small reservoirs located in or near the village and related to everyday life or farming. Firstly 791 provisional village wetlands were identified in Cheonan by using Arc-GIS 10.1, then 104 wetlands were defined as village wetlands and listed the inventory of Cheonan Village Wetlands after being validated through their area (greater than $1,000m^2$), satellite images, Korea Land Information System, land use map, land coverage map and field survey. Finally the 49 wetlands were selected for detailed surveying, and function assessment. As the result of the wetland function assessments, 11 wetlands were found to have 'high' wetland function (conservation) 30 wetlands were 'average' (enhancement) and 8 wetlands were 'low' (restoration or enhancement). Enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services through ecological management of wetlands in Cheonan and connecting with an ecological network were proposed.
