  • Ginseng seeds were gathered from 3,4,5 and 6 years of age and were classified into four qroups (below 4mm, 4∼5mm, 5∼6mm and above 6mm in across sieve). They were sown in seedling bed and some characters were investigated in each qroup of seed size. 1. The distribution of seed size of below 4mm, 4-5mm, 5-6mm and 6mm were 23.7%, 60.8%, 12.4% and 4.5%, respectively. 2. The ratio of seed coat dehiscence was not affected by seed size but emergence ratio and emerging vigor were superior in large seed. 3. The large seed showed superiority in stem length, stem diameter, leat and also in root length, root diameter and root weight. but diseased root was not affected by seed size. The effect of age(seed harvest) was not significant on all those characters.

  • Given the growing attention to nature and health in modern society, this study considered the role of a waterscape facility as a key element in a landscape's influence on users' physiological and psychological responses. The subjects were 28 university students, and the collected data included systolic and diastolic blood pressure, salivary amylase concentration, semantic differential (SD) scales, and profile of mood states (POMS). As compared to a space without any waterscape element (Type G), relaxation in a space with a waterscape element (Type W) was found to significantly reduce of systolic and diastolic blood pressure and salivary amylase concentration. The SD scale and POMS findings showed that Type W evoked active, bright, dynamic, free, vital, interesting, and cheerful images and improved mood states by enhancing vigor while inhibiting depressive feelings. These findings indicate waterscape facilities can improves users' mood states and may enhance their health.

  • Pods and kernels of two peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.) cultivars, a Shinpung type, Shindaekwangtangkong and a Virginia bunch type, Namdaetangkong were harvested periodically after the gynophore earthing in the field condition and their developments were monitored by observation of the changes in size, weight and moisture content. Seed germinability and seedling vigor were tested to set up a method for hastening the generation advancement in breeding procedure. Pods and kernels reached the maximum in size at 30 to 40 days after gynophore earthing and at that time the kernels had one hundred percent germinability and the seedlings sprouted from those kernels exhibited practically acceptable viability enough to grow for the next generation.

  • Mesophyll protoplasts derived from young leaves of Nicotiana rustica and N. tabacum cv Burley 21 were fused with the aid of polyethylene glycol(PEG). Cytological examination of protoplasts after PEG treatment revealed 12.8 % heterokaryocytes. After 7 weeks culture, the hybrid calli showing greenish white with a compact appearance were selected in contrast to parental type calli tinged with white or green color. The somatic hybrid plants were verified by morphological, biochemical and cyclological analysis. A heterosis effect for plant vigor and height was observed but the shape of leaves and flower characteristics were intermediate between N. tabacum and N. rutstica. The isozyme banding patterns for peroxidase of somatic hybrid lines were compared with the parent species. A number of isozyme bands derived from both parental species were found in the hybrids. Somatic hybrid plants have been successfully backcrossed to the parental N. tabacum particularly with somatic hybrid plants as female parents. These hybrid plants yielded small seeds, only few which were germinable.

  • A series of computational simulations have been carried out for supersonic flows in a scram jet engine with and without a cavity. Transverse injection of hydrogen, a simplest form of fuel supply, is considered in the present study with the injection pressure varying from 0.5 to 1.5 MPa. The corresponding equivalence ratios are 0.167 - 0.50. The work features detailed resolution of the flow dynamics in the combustor, which was not typically available in most of the Previous studies. In particular, oscillatory flow characteristics are captured at a scale sufficient to identify the underlying physical mechanisms. Much of the flow unsteadiness is related not only to the cavity, but also to the intrinsic unsteadiness in the flowfield. The interactions between shock waves and shear layer may cause a large excursion of flow oscillation. The role of the cavity and injection pressure are examined systematically.

  • A numerical analysis has been conducted to study the transient flowfield during the transition from the booster to sustainer phase in an integrated rocket ramjet (IRR) propulsion system. Emphasis is placed on the unsteady inlet aerodynamics, fuel/air mixing in an entire ramjet engine during the flow transient phase. The computational geometry consists of the entire IRR engine, including the inlet, the combustion chamber, and the exhaust nozzle. Turbulence closure is achieved using a low-Reynolds-number two-equation model. The governing equations are solved numerically by means of a finite-volume, preconditioned flux-differencing scheme over a wide range of Mach umber. Various important physical processes are investigated systemically, including terminal shock train.

  • Background and Purpose: According to chaos theory, irregular signals of electroencephalogram can interpretated by nonlinear method. Chaotic nonlinear dynamics in EEG can be studied by calculating the correlation dimension. The aim of this study is to analyze EEG by correlation dimension and do Correlation Analysis of correlation dimension and K-POMS factors score. Method: EEG raw data were measured during 15 minutes and choosed 40 seconds. We calculated correlation dimension and used surrogate data method for checking nonlinear data. After then do correlation analysis. Result and Conclusion: Correlation dimension of channel 6, channel 7 and channel 8 are showed significant correlation with vigor factor.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of sodding and seeding time and rate of seed mixtures on the establishment of cool-season turfgrasses by evaluating the turf coverage rates for two years. In fall planting, the required establishment period of full coverage($100\%$) was 1.5 months with a rolled turf sodding(Kentucky bluegrass $100\%$, Kentucky bluegrass $80\%$+perennial ryegrass $20\%$). The $100\%$ turf establishment was achieved in 7 months with Perennial ryegrass $100\%$, and 7.5 months by seeding with Kentucky bluegrass $100\%$(KB 100), Kentucky bluegrass $80\%$+perennial ryegrass $20\%$(KB80+PR20), Kentucky bluegrass $70\%$+perennial ryegrass $30\%$(KB70+PR30). In spring planting, the establishment periods far sod with KB 100 or KB80+PR20 were taken one month. However, in the case of seeding, the establishment periods were 3 months, 3.5 months, 3.5 months and 4 months with PR100, KB80+PR20, KB70+PR30, and KB 100, respectively Comparing the turf establishment vigor between fall and spring planting, the vigor was higher In spring planting than in fall planting in both sodding and . seeding. In the case of spring planting, the most proper time for turf establishment was tested on April, May, and June trials. The effect was significant in establishment vigor. The result showed highest on April planting. On May and June trials, establishment vigors were decreased gradually As the mixture rate of PR increased, ryegrass, establishment vigor was decreased with the rates. These results indicated that perennial ryegrass has relatively less tolerant to summer heat than Kentucky bluegrass. Number of shoots in 95 days after seeding was higher in KB100 by 16,600 per $m^2$ than in PR100 by 12,400 per $m^2$, while the lowest number showed in KB50+PR50 by 3,300 per $m^2$. Those in KB80:PR20, KB70:PR30 were 6,700 and 4,900 per $m^2$, respectively. The ratios of tillers according to mixture rates between Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass were KB80:PR20=87:13, KB70:PR30=78:22, and KB50:PR50=48:52. According to results in this study, Ideal seeding time might be spring (April) than in fall (September), and proper mixture rate was $80\%$ of Kentucky bluegrass with $20\%$ of perennial ryegrass.
