A Study on the Media Consumers' Behavior Related to Online Communications: Behavioral Economics Perspective

  • This research investigates the media consumers' behavior with behavioral economics perspective, especially regarding TV content viewers' behavior; how do online communications influence TV viewers' decision when choosing a new TV content among options. We focus on quantity and attribute of comments or reactions on the online news articles. We analyze that online communications data, which were generated before the first broadcast, affect the TV content consumers' choice for a new TV series. Here we identify a predicted utility, experienced utility and distinction bias in TV media consumption to find the effectiveness of the first viewing choice on whole TV series' episodes. To avoid the crucial influence by exogenous factors, such as season and social issue, the test was done with specific conditions. This research found that the total number of reactions to the comments by itself positively affects the audiences' decision-making behavior for a new TV content choice. This influence was regardless of favor/ non-flavor reactions. This study contributes to the literature on media economics and management by exploring the media content users' consuming behavior and making a first step for finding an important influencer on the media content consumption.

  • Low temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology using a high power laser have been widely applied to thin film transistors (TFTs) for liquid crystal, organic light emitting diode (OLED) display, driver circuit for system on glass (SOG) and static random access memory (SRAM). Recently, the semiconductor industry is continuing its quest to create even more powerful CPU and memory chips. This requires increasing of individual device speed through the continual reduction of the minimum size of device features and increasing of device density on the chip. Moreover, the flat panel display industry also need to be brighter, with richer more vivid color, wider viewing angle, have faster video capability and be more durable at lower cost. Kornic Systems Co., Ltd. developed the $KORONA^{TM}$ LTP/GLTP series - an innovative production tool for fabricating flat panel displays and semiconductor devices - to meet these growing market demands and advance the volume production capabilities of flat panel displays and semiconductor industry. The $KORONA^{TM}\;LTP/GLTP$ series using DPSS laser and XeCl excimer laser is designed for the new generation of the wafer & FPD glass annealing processing equipment combining advanced low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) crystallization technology and object-oriented software architecture with a semistandard graphical user interface (GUI).   • As the 4th industrial revolution emerges, the implementation of smart factories are essential in the manufacturing industry. However, 80% of small and medium-sized enterprises that have introduced smart factories remain at the basic level. In addition, in root industries such as injection molding, PLC and HMI software are used to implement functions that simply show operation data aggregated by facilities in real time. This has limitations for managers to make decisions related to product production other than viewing data. This study presents a method for upgrading the level of smart factories to suit the reality of small and medium-sized enterprises. By monitoring the data collected from the facility, it is possible to determine whether there is an abnormal situation by proposing an appropriate algorithm for meaningful decision-making, and an alarm sounds when the process is out of control. In this study, the function of HMI has been expanded to check the failure frequency rate, facility time operation rate, average time between failures, and average time between failures based on facility operation signals. For the injection molding industry, an HMI prototype including the extended function proposed in this study was implemented. This is expected to provide a foundation for SMEs that do not have sufficient IT capabilities to advance to the middle level of smart factories without making large investments.

A Study on Web-based Collaborative CAD System (웹 기반 협동 CAD시스템에 관한 연구)

  • As computer systems and communication technologies develop rapidly, CSCW(Computer Supported Collaborative Work) system appears nowadays, through which it is available to work on virtual space without any restriction of time and place. Most of CWCS systems depend on a special network and groupware. The systems of graphics and CAD are not so many because they are specified by hardware and application software. In this paper, we propose a web-based collaborative CAD system, which can be jointly worked on Internet WWW being independent from any platforms. It can create and modify 3D objects easily using VRML and Java 3D API, and it can send, print, and store them. The interactive work for designing objects can be also carried out through chatting with each other. This system is executed in the environment of Client/server architecture. Clients connect to the CAD sewer through Java applet on WWW. The server is implemented by Java application, and it consists of three components : connection manager which controls the contact to users, work manager which keeps viewing in concurrency and provides virtual work space sharing with others, and solid modeler which creates 3D object.

Current Status of the 3-D Spatial Information Systems for Local Government and Their Revitalization Plan (지자체 3차원 공간정보시스템의 현황 및 활성화 방향에 관한 연구)

  • The 3-D spatial information systems are effective for systematical urban management and civil administration. They have more visibility than the 2-D spatial information systems with height information. However, the 3-D spatial information systems for local government were developed by central government's master plan of national spatial informatization. It means that the systems are biased toward the 3-D viewing as the visibility like a 3-D display and simulation, without reflected distinct characteristics of the local society. In order to utilize municipalities'3-D spatial information systems efficiently, above all, we have to understand the current status of municipalities'3-D spatial information systems and then have to search the ways applying actively. Therefore, we reviewed the current 3-D spatial information systems and discussed the development directions with central government's national spatial informatization master plans in order to perform properly on the 3-D spatial information system's excellent functions. We analyzed each system characteristics based on the applicability to civil administration which has the potential usage of spatial information. Additionally we suggested the development directions of 3-D spatial information systems for municipalities'through reviewing which civil administrative tasks 3-D spatial information can be applied. The consideration was based on the user demand research of the 3-D spatial information system in Chungcheongnam-do.

3-D Information Model for High-speed Railway Infrastructures (고속철도시설물을 위한 3차원정보모델)

  • Design of a high-speed railway line requires collaboration of heterogeneous application systems and of engineers with different background. Object-based 3D models with metadata can be a shared information model for the effective collaborative design. In this paper, railway infrastructure information model is proposed to enable integrated and inter-operable works throughout the life-cycle of the railway infrastructures, from planning to maintenance. In order to develop the model, object-based 3-D models were built for a 10km railway among Korea high-speed railway lines. The model has basically three information layers for designers, contractors and an owner, respectively. Prestressed concrete box-girders are the most common superstructure of bridges. The design information layer has metadata on requirements, design codes, geometry, analysis and so on. The construction layer has data on drawings, real data for material and products, schedules and so on. The maintenance layer for the owner has the final geometry, material data, products and their suppliers and so on. These information has its own data architecture which is derived from similar concept of product breakdown structure(PBS) and work breakdown structure(WBS). The constructed RIIM for the infrastructures of the high-speed railway was successfully applied to various areas such as design check, structural analysis, automated estimation, construction simulation, virtual viewing, and digital mock-up. The integrated information model can realize virtual construction system for railway lines and dramatically increase the productivity of the whole engineering process.

Design of Virtual Reality content for supervising abusement

  • The government has defined domestic violence as one of the four major social evils and tried to prepare laws and systems to prevent it. Nevertheless, domestic violence has emerged as a serious social issue, and compare to the number of domestic violence cases that are constantly increasing, the report rate of domestic violence is significantly lower. This suggests the need to improve citizens' perception of domestic violence as the issue to solve it together in society, not as a private matter at home. Most of existing contents for preventing domestic violence and improving awareness are simple viewing forms of video contents, which have little effect on recognition. We aim to confirm the possibility of improving social awareness about domestic violence by producing Virtual Reality (VR) contents that have great features of user's immersion and empathy. In this VR content, the user can interact with various objects in the virtual reality of domestic violence and directly or indirectly experience the victim's position. Users who view the violent environment from the victim's point of view can have a subjective empathy for the problem, which is expected to induce more active awareness about domestic violence.

Motion-based ROI Extraction with a Standard Angle-of-View from High Resolution Fisheye Image (고해상도 어안렌즈 영상에서 움직임기반의 표준 화각 ROI 검출기법)

  • In this paper, a motion-based ROI extraction algorithm from a high resolution fisheye image is proposed for multi-view monitoring systems. Lately fisheye cameras are widely used because of the wide angle-of-view and they basically provide a lens correction functionality as well as various viewing modes. However, since the distortion-free angle of conventional algorithms is quite narrow due to the severe distortion ratio, there are lots of unintentional dead areas and they require much computation time in finding undistorted coordinates. Thus, the proposed algorithm adopts an image decimation and a motion detection methods, that can extract the undistorted ROI image with a standard angle-of-view for the fast and intelligent surveillance system. In addition, a mesh-type ROI is presented to reduce the lens correction time, so that this independent ROI scheme can parallelize and maximize the processor's utilization.

Efficient Shear-warp Volume Rendering using Spacial Locality of Memory Access (메모리 참조 공간 연관성을 이용한 효율적인 쉬어-왑 분해 볼륨렌더링)

  • Shear-Warp volume rendering has many advantages such as good image Quality and fast rendering speed. However in the interactive classification environment it has low efficiency of memory access since preprocessed classification is unavailable. In this paper we present an algorithm using the spacial locality of memory access in the interactive classification environment. We propose an extension model appending a rotation matrix to the factorization of viewing transformation, it thus performs a scanline-based rendering in the object and image space. We also show causes and solutions of three problems of the proposed algorithm such as inaccurate front-to-back composition, existence of hole, increasing computational cost. This model is efficient due to the spacial locality of memory access.

Development of 3D simulator for biped robot (이족 보행 로보트를 위한 3차원 모의 실험기의 개발)

  • It is necessary to develop the simulator for the test of stability and torque before the walking experiment of biped robot, because a robot may be damaged in an actual experiment. This thesis deals with the development of three-dimensional simulator for improving efficiency and safety during development and experimentation. The simulator is composed of three parts-solving dynamics, rendering pictures and communicating with the robot. In the first part, the D-H parameter and parameter of links can be loaded from the file and edited in the program. The results are obtained by using the Newton-Euler method and are stored in the file. Through the above process, the proper length of link and driving force can be found by using simulator before designing the robot. The second part is organized so that the user can easily see a specific value or a portion he wants by setting viewing parameters interactively. A robot is also shown as a shaded rendering picture in this part. In the last part, the simulator sends each desired angle of joints to the robot controller and each real angle of joints is taken from the controller and passed to the second part. The safety of the experiment is improved by driving the robot after checking whether the robot can be actuatable or not and whether the ZMP is located within the sole of the foot or not for a specific gait. The state of the robot can be easily grasped by showing the shaded rendering picture which displays the position of the ZMP, the driving force and the shape of robot.
