Hybrid 3DTV Systems Based on the Cross-View SHVC (양안 교차 SHVC 기반 융합형 3DTV 시스템)

  • When a terrestrial UHD broadcasting service and a mobile HD broadcasting service are provided using the PLP function provided by ATSC 3.0 and domestic UHD broadcasting standard, a small amount of data may be additionally transmitted to further provide high quality UHD-3D broadcasting service. The left and right images of the stereoscopic image are input, one view image is encoded by the SHVC method, and the other view images are encoded by the SHVC method of the two-view cross-referencing method. However, since the base layers (BL) of the two encoders are mutually common, the two encoders correspond to encoders that generate one BL stream and two enhancement layer (EL) streams. The average encoding efficiency is 16% more efficient compared to the third independent HEVC encoding for the UHD-3D broadcast service. The proposed scheme reduces the fluctuation of PSNR per image frame and increases the image quality of minimum PSNR frame by 0.6dB.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to interpolate two images obtained from two parallel cameras. The proposed method uses BDM(Bidirectional Disparity Map) to prevent hole generation due to occlusion. Furthermore, we use the block-based DM(Disparity Map) to decrease the amount of computation, and also use the adaptive block size to minimize the error of the block-based DM.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient coding method of digital hologram (or fringe pattern) using multi-view prediction technique based on video and image coding standard such as MPEG. The proposed algorithm illustrates that it has better properties for reconstruction and higher compression rate than the previous researches.

  • In this paper, a hidden surface removal algorithm that generates a perspective view of three space plane-faced objects using scan line coherence is proposed. In particular, the proposed algorithm deals with hidden surface elimination of penetrating objects by using the optimum span division method with minimum test for priority test of segments. Also, a hidden surface redmoval method for representing sectional view of solids by using boolean difference is described.

High accuracy online 3D-reconstruction by multiple cameras

  • For online high accurate reconstruction of an object from an visual information, a linear reconstruction method for multiple images is popular. Basically this method needs many cameras or many different screen shots from different view points. This method, however, has the benefit of less calculation and is adequate for a real time application by comparing other popular method. In this paper, online reconstruction system using more than three cameras is treated. An evaluation method of cameras' position, and of the number is derived for the linear reconstruction method. To decrease errors that are caused from skew of lens, positional error between corresponding points is taken into consideration on the evaluation. The proposed evaluation method enables estimation of the adequate number of cameras and then of feasible view locations. Additionally, repeating search of epipolar lines enables estimation of the hidden point. Comparing with result of an average error analysis, it was confirmed that the proposed methods works effectively.

  • This paper discusses a new weighting method for text analyzing from the view point of supervised learning. The term frequency and inverse term frequency measure (tf-idf measure) is famous weighting method for information retrieval, and this method can be used for text analyzing either. However, it is an experimental weighting method for information retrieval whose effectiveness is not clarified from the theoretical viewpoints. Therefore, other effective weighting measure may be obtained for document classification problems. In this study, we propose the optimal weighting method for document classification problems from the view point of supervised learning. The proposed measure is more suitable for the text classification problem as used training data than the tf-idf measure. The effectiveness of our proposal is clarified by simulation experiments for the text classification problems of newspaper article and the customer review which is posted on the web site.

Recovery of Software Module-View using Dependency and Author Entropy of Modules (모듈의 의존관계와 저자 엔트로피를 이용한 소프트웨어 모듈-뷰 복원)

  • In this study, we propose a novel technique of software clustering to recover the software module-view by using the dependency and author entropy of modules. The proposed method first performs clustering of modules based on structural and logical dependencies, then it migrates selected modules from the clustered result by utilizing the author entropy of each module. In order to evaluate the proposed method, we calculated the MoJoFM values of the recovery result by applying the method to open-source projects among which ground-truth decompositions are well-known. Compared to the MoJoFM values of previously studied techniques, we demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Using Freeze Frame and Visual Notifications in an Annotation Drawing Interface for Remote Collaboration

  • This paper describes two user studies in remote collaboration between two users with a video conferencing system where a remote user can draw annotations on the live video of the local user's workspace. In these two studies, the local user had the control of the view when sharing the first-person view, but our interfaces provided instant control of the shared view to the remote users. The first study investigates methods for assisting drawing annotations. The auto-freeze method, a novel solution for drawing annotations, is compared to a prior solution (manual freeze method) and a baseline (non-freeze) condition. Results show that both local and remote users preferred the auto-freeze method, which is easy to use and allows users to quickly draw annotations. The manual-freeze method supported precise drawing, but was less preferred because of the need for manual input. The second study explores visual notification for better local user awareness. We propose two designs: the red-box and both-freeze notifications, and compare these to the baseline, no notification condition. Users preferred the less obtrusive red-box notification that improved awareness of when annotations were made by remote users, and had a significantly lower level of interruption compared to the both-freeze condition.

Automated Generation of BIM Models with Indoor Spaces Using Street View Façade Images

  • The importance of 3D city models for sustainable urban development and management is underscored, but existing models often overlook indoor spaces and attribute information. This issue can be tackled with BIM models, though the conventional method requires accurate and extensive information, incurring considerable time and cost in data collection and processing. To overcome these limitations, this study proposes a method to automatically generate BIM models that include indoor spaces using street view images. The proposed method uses YOLOv5 to identify façade elements and DBSCAN to normalize façade layouts, facilitating the generation of detailed BIM models with a parametric algorithm. To validate the method, a case study of a building in Korea was conducted. The results showed that indoor spaces similar to the actual building were generated, with an error rate of object quantities between 8.46% and 9.03%. This study is anticipated to contribute to the efficient generation of 3D city models that incorporate indoor spaces.

  • Multi-view video coding technology demands the very high efficient coding technologies, because it has to encode a number of video sequences which are achieved from a number of video cameras. For this purpose, multi-view video coding introduces the inter-view prediction scheme between different views, but it shows a limitation of coding performance enhancement by adopting only new prediction method. Accordingly, we are going to achieve the more coding performance by enhancing dequantizer perfermance. Multi-view video coding is implemented basically based on H.264/AVC and uses the same quantization/de-quantization method as H.264/AVC does. The conventional quantizer and dequantizer is designed with the assumption that input residual signal follows the Laplacian PDF. However, it doesn't follow the fixed PDF type always. This mismatch between assumption and real data causes degradation of coding performance. To solve this problem, we propose the efficient de-quantization method based on quantized coefficients distribution at decoder without extra information. The extensive simulation results show that the proposed algorithm produces maximum $1.5\;dB{\sim}0.6\;dB$ at high bitrate compared with that of conventional method.
