  • An important aspect of video program indexing and retrieval is the ability to segment video program into meaningful segments, in other words, the ability of content-based video program segmentation. In this paper, a new approach using speech recognition technology has been proposed for content-based video program segmentation. This approach uses speech recognition technique to synchronize closed caption with speech signal. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is very promising for content-based video program segmentation.

  • In order to conform to the needs of effective program production in multimedia era, we are studying Desk Top Program Production system. With the DTPP, users can easily produce multimedia program including video, sound, and ancillary data, and freely handle video images synthesizing video components retrieved from video database. This paper describes the new program production system, DTPP and its key technologies such as cooperative program production via multimedia network, indexing and utilization of attribute information of images, and image segmentation and spatio-temporal editing.

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a video discharge education program focusing on mother-infant interaction to facilitate the development of maternal role confidence for mothers of premature infants. Methods: The process of the program was based on the Network-based Instructional System Design suggested by Jung (1999). For the content of the program, needs and concerns of mothers of premature infants found on web sites and existing literature were analyzed. Based on this content, the scenario and the video were developed. Nurses and mothers of premature infants participated in the process of testing the content validity, scenario development, and evaluation of final video production. The final video has two parts and lasts 21 minutes. The first part focuses on mother-premature infant interaction and the second part focuses on health management of infants. Results: Eleven mothers of premature infants participated in the evaluation of the appropriateness of the video as a teaching method and for educational content. They reported that the content on mother-infant interaction, maternal sensitivity, and maternal role confidence was especially beneficial. Conclusion: The findings indicate that video program is effective for education on maternal-premature infant interaction and the use of video in practical settings is strongly recommended.

  • The two objectives of this study were 1) to develop an educational program based on the Self-Efficacy Theory(SET) of Bandura, and 2) to investigate the effects of the educational program on the management of menopause. The investigation process of this study was done in two phases. The first phase was to development an educational program through video tape. A telephone coaching program served as a follow-up to the educational video program and provided encouragement and support to the subjects. The second phase was the experimental stage. This experimentation was conducted to determine whether an educational program based on theory of Bandura would increase self-efficacy and management of menopause. Results : The developed video consisted of 2 parts. Part one discussed symtoms and management of menopause. Part two reflected the vicarious step-by-step success of middle-aged women's of menopause through the effective use of the 5 factors mentioned above. Telephone coaching program served as a followed to the educational video program and provided encouragement and support to the subjects. Total length of video is 32 minutes. Hypothesis stated in phase two were supported by the following result. Experimental group increased general-self-efficacy scores. Experimental group increased concrete-self-efficacy scores. Experimental group increased objective and subjective management of menopause scale.

  • Purpose: This study was to determine the effect of a smartphone video educational program on educational satisfaction of patients in rehabilitation units at a university hospital. Methods: The subjects of this study were 60 stroke patients recruited and divided into two groups; experimental group (n=30) and control group (n=30). Subjects in the experimental group and control group conducted conventional physical and occupational therapy. In addition, only the experimental group provided smartphone video information for a total of 15 sessions. The video consisted of five episodes (10 minutes each) viewed a total of 15 times (for each video three times). The outcome was assessed by educational satisfaction. Result: After inervention, both groups revealed significant increased awareness of prevention of infection educational satisfaction and prevention from falling educational satisfaction and exercise program educational satisfaction. However, the experimental group was more effective than the control group relative to heightened awareness of increasing prevention of infection prevention from falling and exercise program. Conclusion: We suggest that a smartphone video educational program may be effective in improving awareness of the prevention of infection, prevention from falling, and exercise program educational satisfaction. Therefore, video-based information is beneficial for such patients. Further studies are needed for better understanding of the effectiveness of a smartphone video educational program in rehabilitation units at a university hospital.

  • In recent years the demand for digital video and image communications has been increased tremendously. On the other hand, video communications requires very much bandwidth in comparison with other information types such as text and data. Thus to adapt with the bandwidth-limited channels, especially wireless channels, video source must be compressed extremely. A new video coding standard namely H.26L is being developed by Joint Video Team (JVT). In this paper performance of H.26L is analyzed in an AWGN environment.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between a preoperative video program as nursing intervention and the perception of postoperative pain. The subjects consisted of an experimental group of 17 children and a control group of 13 children, for a total of 30 patients who were admitted the ENT Department for tonsilectomies. Data were collected from August 1, 1993 to September 31. The video program was made by the pediatric operating theater nursing staff. Postoperative painwas measured using the Face Pain Rating Scales devised by Beyer in 1984. The data were analyzed by a SPSS using frequencies, means, percentages, t-test and ANOVA to analyze the variables and demographic characteristics. The results of this study are as follows : The hypothesis, “Score of the experimental group which was shown the preoperative video program as a nursing intervention will be lower than the control group which did not see the video in postoperative pain perception.” was rejected by t=-.42, p>.05. No significant difference was found between the experimental group and the control group according demographic characteristics. From the above findings, this study suggests the following : 1. Further studies as randomized control-group pretest-posttest design are needed to control the extraneous variables. 2. A review will be suggested to be done by the preoperative video program as nursing intervention and an exploration to improve preoperative nursing care for pediatric patients with the inclusion such activities as preoperative visiting, operation theater tour etc.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate how a program using video-audio media will affect the knowledge level and compliance of the sick role of patients admitted for coronary angiography. Method: A non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. Subjects were selected from patients admitted to the internal ward of a hospital in B city for coronary angiography between July 1 and September 31, 2010. Twenty subjects were assigned to the control and experimental group, respectively. Video-audio media developed by the authors was used as the experimental tool. The effects of the program were analyzed using a knowledge assessment tool and questionnaire for compliance of the sick role. The SPSS/WIN 14.0 program was used for data analysis. Result: The first hypothesis that the "experimental group receiving the program using video-audio media will report a higher level of knowledge compared to the control group" was supported. The second hypothesis that the "experimental group that received the program using video-audio media will report a higher level of compliance of sick role" was supported. Conclusion: The program using video-audio media was effective in enhancing patients' knowledge about the disease and compliance of the sick role. Thus, it can be an effective nursing intervention for patients with coronary artery disease.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the preliminary effects of applying a developed web-based video education program in patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy. Methods: A one-group pre-post test design was used. The web-based video education program to prevent infection consisted of 5 subjects. The program was confirmed to be valid by an expert group of doctors and nurses. Convenience sampling of 23 subjects was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the web-based video education program. Data were analyzed based on nonparametric statistics using SPSS 25.0 software. Results: Per the results of the study, knowledge and self-management behavior of infection prevention significantly improved after application of the program; however, there was no significant difference in self-efficacy. Conclusion: It was confirmed that the web-based video education program is effective to improve the knowledge and self-management behavior of infection prevention. However, as a preliminary study, this study did not have external validity. Therefore, it is necessary to verify the effectiveness of the program through randomized controlled trials and confirm the true infection prevention effect that was not considered in this research design.
