  • In this paper, a new method for effective video coding is studied. Picture set filter is proposed for preserving compression ratio and video quality. This filter controls the compression ratio of each frame depending on the correlation to the reference frame by selectively eliminating less important high-resolution areas. Consequently, video quality can be preserved and bit rate can be controlled adaptively. In the simulation, to test the performance of the proposed coding method, comparisons with the full search block matching algorithm and the differential image coding algorithm are made. In the former case, video quality, compression ratio and encoding time is improved. In the latter case, video quality is degraded, but compression ratio and encoding time is improved. Consequently, the proposed method shows a reasonably good performance over existing ones.

  • We present a novel method for face detection and recognition methods applicable to video retrieval. The person matching efficiency largely depends on how robustly faces are detected in the video frames. Face regions are detected in video frames using viola-jones features boosted with the Adaboost algorithm After face detection, PCA (Principal Component Analysis) follows illumination compensation to extract features that are classified by SVM (Support Vector Machine) for person identification. Experimental result shows that the matching efficiency of the ensembled architecture is quit satisfactory.

  • Recently, as an alternative to replace face-to-face meetings, video conferencing systems between remote locations has increased. However, video conferencing systems have limitations in terms of mismatch of the eyes of remote users. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a technology that can increase the level of immersion in video conferences by matching the gaze information of participants between different remote locations. In this paper, we propose a novel technique to realize video conferencing with the same gaze by estimating the speaker's location based on a multi-microphone. Using our method, it can be applied to various fields such as robot interaction and virtual human interface as well as video conferencing between remote locations.

  • For video compression, we have to consider two performance factors that are the search speed and coded video's quality. In this paper, we propose an enhanced fast block matching algorithm using the spatial correlation of the video sequence and the center-biased characteristic of motion vectors(MV). The proposed algorithm first finds a predicted motion vector from the adjacent macro blocks of the current frame and determines an exact motion vector using the cross pattern and a flat hexagon search pattern. From the performance evaluations, we can see that our algorithm outperforms both the hexagon-based search(HEXBS) and the cross-hexagon search(CHS) algorithms in terms of the search speed and coded video's quality. Using our algorithm, we can improve the search speed by up to 31%, and also increase the PSNR(Peak Signal Noise Ratio) by at most 0.5 dB, thereby improving the video quality.

  • This paper proposes a detection algorithm for view reversal in a stereoscopic video using a disparity map and motion vector field. We obtain the disparity map of a stereo image was obtained using a specific stereo matching algorithm and classify the image into the foreground and background. Next, the motion vector field of the image on a block basis was produced using a full search algorithm. Finally, the stereo image was considered to be reversed when the foreground moved toward the background and the covered region was in the foreground. The proposed algorithm achieved a good detection rate when the background was covered sufficiently by its moving foreground.

  • An embedded system has been applied to many fields including households and industrial sites. The embedded system is implemented fur image tracking in security area. This system supports a fixed IP far the reliable server operation on TCP/IP networks. A real time video image on the is analyzed to detect a certain invader who jumped into the observed area. The digital camera is connected at the USB host port of the target board. The video images from the video camera is continuously analyzed and displayed at the Linux web-server. The moving vector of the invaders on the continuous image frames is calculated and then it sends the calculated pan/tilt movement. That used Block matching algorithm and edge detection algorithm for past speed. And the displacement vector is used at pan/tilt motor control through RS232 serial cable. The experiment result showed tracking performance by the moving part speed of 10 to 150 pixels/sec.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new authentication method using video that was taken during moving a hand-held camera in front of the face. The proposed method extracted individuality from the obtained image sequences using the parametric eigenspace scheme. Changes of facial appearance through authentication trials draw continuous tracks in the low dimensional igenspace. The similarity between their continuous tracks are calculated by DP-matching to verify their identities. Experimental results confirmed that different motions and persons change the shapes of continuous tracks, so the proposed method could identify the person.

  • In many moving object detection problems of an aerial video, accurate and robust stabilization is of critical importance. In this paper, a novel accurate image alignment algorithm for aerial electronic image stabilization (EIS) is described. The feature points are first selected using optimal derivative filters based Harris detector, which can improve differentiation accuracy and obtain the precise coordinates of feature points. Then we choose the Delaunay Triangulation edges to find the matching pairs between feature points in overlapping images. The most "useful" matching points that belong to the background are used to find the global transformation parameters using the projective invariant. Finally, intentional motion of the camera is accumulated for correction by Sage-Husa adaptive filtering. Experiment results illustrate that the proposed algorithm is applied to the aerial captured video sequences with various dynamic scenes for performance demonstrations.

  • Full search algorithm(FA) provides the best performance but this is usually impractical because of the large number of computations required for large search region. Fast search and conventional Boolean matching algorithms reduce computational complexity and data processing time but this algorithms have disadvantages that is difficult of implementation of hardware because of high control overhead and that is less performance than FA. This paper presents new Boolean matching algorithm, called BCBM(Bit Converted Boolean Matching). Proposed algorithm has performance closed to the FA by Boolean only block matching that may be very efficiently implemented in hardware for real time video communication. Simulation results show that the PSNR of the proposed algorithm is about 0.08㏈ loss than FA but is about 0.96∼2.02㏈ gain than fast search algorithm and conventional Boolean matching algorithm.
