  • Video image processing systems (VIPS) offer numerous benefits to transportation models and applications, due to their ability to monitor traffic in real time. VIPS based on a wide-area detection algorithm provide traffic parameters such as flow and velocity as well as occupancy and density. However, most current commercial VIPS utilize a tripwire detection algorithm that examines image intensity changes in the detection regions to indicate vehicle presence and passage, i.e., they do not identify individual vehicles as unique targets. If VIPS are developed to track individual vehicles and thus trace vehicle trajectories, many existing transportation models will benefit from more detailed information of individual vehicles. Furthermore, additional information obtained from the vehicle trajectories will improve incident detection by identifying lane change maneuvers and acceleration/deceleration patterns. However, unlike human vision, VIPS cameras have difficulty in recognizing vehicle movements over a detection zone longer than 100 meters. Over such a distance, the camera operators need to zoom in to recognize objects. As a result, vehicle tracking with a single camera is limited to detection zones under 100m. This paper develops a methodology capable of monitoring individual vehicle trajectories based on image processing. To improve traffic flow surveillance, a long distance tracking algorithm for use over 200m is developed with multi-closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. The algorithm is capable of recognizing individual vehicle maneuvers and increasing the effectiveness of incident detection.

  • All measures related to the safety of the casino facilities guarantee safety of facilities that are targets of security guards, protect lives and properties, minimize risks of artificial and natural disaster and crimes. In summary, plan for responding to safety and accidents should be developed not only for the casino facilities but also for the facilities of annexed buildings, and lives and properties of customers and employees. Determine areas in the casino facilities that are prone to accidents and set around-the-clock guard in the areas or maintain surveillance with CCTV and prevent accidents through continuous patrol. These are the most basic and the most important requirements in safety. In addition, casinos which prompt gambling are causing economic and psychological treats to families. To resolve these social issues, casinos have adopted limited entrance system. To support this system, new forms of machine security systems such as video automatic recognition system of fingerprint pattern recognition system should be adopted too. In addition, security guards in casino facilities need to instill themselves with a sense of ownership as well as a strong sense of mission to do the best for customer security and to protect the company assets and employees and manage accidents that could occur without notice. Security guards should do their best to enable manage accidents that could occur without notice. Security guards should do their best to enable tourists who are on the rise due to increase in advanced country-style tourism and leisurely activities to get the utmost satisfaction from the casinos, and as a leader of private security company, establish the foundation for security based on the characteristics of security in Korea.

  • This purpose of this paper was to review the development trend of the VTOL MAVs with a ducted propellant that can fly like the VTOL at intermediate and high speeds, hovering, landing, and lifting off vertically over urban areas, warships, bridges, and mountainous terrains. The MAV differs in flight characteristics from helicopters and fixed wings in many respects. In addition to enhancing thrust, the duct protects personnel from accidental contact with the spinning rotor. The purpose of the U.S. Army FCS and DARPA's OAV program is spurring development of a the VTOL ducted MAV. Today's MAVs are equipped with video/infrared cameras to hover-and-stare at enemies hidden behind forests and hills for approximately one hour surveillance and reconnaissance. Class-I is a VTOL ducted MAV developed in size and weight that individual soldiers can store in their backpacks. Class-II is the development of an organic VTOL ducted fan MAV with twice the operating time and a wider range of flight than Class-I. MAVs will need to develop to perch-and-stare technology for lengthy operation on the current hover-and-stare. The near future OAV's concept is to expand its mission capability and efficiency with a joint operation that automatically lifts-off, lands, refuels, and recharges on the vehicle's landing pad while the manned-unmanned ground vehicle is in operation. A ducted MAV needs the development of highly accurate relative position technology using low cost and small GPS for automatic lift-off and landing on the landing pad. There is also a need to develop a common command and control architecture that enables the cooperative operation of organisms between a VTOL ducted MAV and a manned-unmanned ground vehicle.

  • Face classification has wide applications in intelligent video surveillance, content retrieval, robot vision, and human-machine interface. Pose and expression changes, and arbitrary illumination are typical problems for face recognition. When the face is captured at a distance, the image quality is often degraded by blurring and noise corruption. This paper investigates the efficacy of multi-classifier decision level fusion for face classification based on the photon-counting linear discriminant analysis with two different cost functions: Euclidean distance and negative normalized correlation. Decision level fusion comprises three stages: cost normalization, cost validation, and fusion rules. First, the costs are normalized into the uniform range and then, candidate costs are selected during validation. Three fusion rules are employed: minimum, average, and majority-voting rules. In the experiments, unfocusing and motion blurs are rendered to simulate the effects of the long distance environments. It will be shown that the decision-level fusion scheme provides better results than the single classifier.

  • Moving object detection is to detect foreground object different from background scene in a new incoming image frame and is an essential ingredient process in some image processing applications such as intelligent visual surveillance, HCI, object-based video compression and etc. Most of previous object detection algorithms are still computationally heavy so that it is difficult to develop real-time multi-channel moving object detection in a workstation or even one-channel real-time moving object detection in an embedded system using them. Foreground mask correction necessary for a more precise object detection is usually accomplished using morphological operations like opening and closing. Morphological operations are not computationally cheap and moreover, they are difficult to be rendered to run simultaneously with the subsequent connected component labeling routine since they need quite different type of processing from what the connected component labeling does. In this paper, we first devise a fast and precise foreground mask correction algorithm, "Neighbor Foreground Pixel Propagation (NFPP)" which utilizes neighbor pixel checking employed in the connected component labeling. Next, we propose a novel moving object detection method based on the devised foreground mask correction algorithm, NFPP where the connected component labeling routine can be executed simultaneously with the foreground mask correction. Through experiments, it is verified that the proposed moving object detection method shows more precise object detection and more than 4 times faster processing speed for a image frame and videos in the given the experiments than the previous moving object detection method using morphological operations.

  • In this paper, we propose an effective method to block illegal gambling advertisement on social media. With the increase of smartphone and internet usage, users can easily access various information while sharing information such as text and video with a large number of others. In addition, illegal sports gambling advertisements are also continue to be transmitted on SNS. To avoid most surveillance networks, users are easily exposed to illegal sports gambling advertisement images by including phrases in the images that indicate illegal sports gambling advertisements. In order to cope with these problems, we proposed a method to actively block illegal sports gambling advertisements in a way different from the conventional passive methods. In this paper, we select words frequently used for illegal sports gambling, classifies them into three groups according to their importance, calculate WF for each word using weighted formula by degree of relevance and frequency, and then sum the WF of the words in the image. Blocking, warning, and passing were determined by cv, the total of WF. Experimenting with the proposed method, 193 out of 200 experimental images were correctly judged with 96.5% accuracy, and even though 7 images were illegal sports gambling advertisements. Further research is needed to block 3.5% of illegal sports betting ads that cannot be blocked in the future.

  • In almost industries, such as the logistics industry, marine fisheries, agriculture, industry, and services, small unmanned aerial vehicles are used for aerial photographing or closing flight in areas where human access is difficult or CCTV is not installed. Also, based on the information of small unmanned aerial photographing, application research is actively carried out to efficiently perform surveillance, control, or management. In order to carry out tasks in a mission-based manner in which the set tasks are assigned and the tasks are automatically performed, the small unmanned aerial vehicles must not only fly steadily but also be able to charge the energy periodically, In addition, the unmanned aircraft need to land automatically and precisely at certain points after the end of the mission. In order to accomplish this, an automatic precision landing method that leads landing by continuously detecting and recognizing a marker located at a landing point from a video shot of a small UAV is required. In this paper, it is shown that accurate and stable automatic landing is possible even if simple template matching technique is applied without using various recognition methods that require high specification in using low cost general purpose small unmanned aerial vehicle. Through simulation and actual experiments, the results show that the proposed method will be made good use of industrial fields.

  • Many research demonstrations and commercial applications have been tried to develop face detection and recognition systems. Human face detection plays an important role in applications such as access control and video surveillance, human computer interface, identity authentication, etc. There are some special problems such as a face connected with background, faces connected via the skin color, and a face divided into several small parts after skin region segmentation in generally. It can be allowed many face detection techniques to solve the first and second problems. However, it is not easy to detect a face divided into several parts of regions for reason of different illumination conditions in the third problem. Therefore, we propose an efficient modified skin segmentation algorithm to solve this problem because the typical region segmentation algorithm can not be used to. Our algorithm detects skin regions over the entire image, and then generates face candidate regions using our skin segmentation algorithm For each face candidate, we implement the procedure of region merging for divided regions in order to make a region using adjacency between homogeneous regions. We utilize various different searching window sizes to detect different size faces and a face detection classifier based on a back-propagation algorithm in order to verify whether the searching window contains a face or not.

  • Despite being one of the most important national facilities, the National Assembly building of the Republic of Korea has become increasingly vulnerable to potential terrorist attacks, and the instances of demonstrations occurring around and banned items taken into the building are continuing to rise. In addition, promoting the idea of "open assembly" has led to increased visitors and weakened access control. Furthermore, while there is a significant symbolic value attached to attacking the National Assembly building, the level of security management is relatively very low, making it a suitable target for terrorism. In order to address such vulnerability, an appropriate access control system should be in place from the areas surrounding the building. However, the National Assembly Security Service which oversees security around the building is scheduled to disband in June 2020 following the abolition of the conscripted police force in 2023. Therefore, there needs to be an alternative option to bolster the security system outside the facility. In this research, the perceptions of 114 government officials in charge of security at the National Assembly Secretariat toward the protection and security system of the areas surrounding the National Assembly building were examined. Results showed that the respondents believed it was highly likely that risky situations could occur outside the building, and the use of advanced technologies such as intelligent video surveillance, intrusion detection system, and drones was viewed favorably. Moreover, a mid- to long-term plan of establishing a unified three-layer protection system and designating a department in charge of the security outside the building were perceived positively. Lastly, the participants supported the idea of employing private police to replace the National Assembly Security Service for the short term and introducing parliamentary police for the mid- to long-term.

  • Detecting a moving object from videos and tracking it are basic and necessary preprocessing steps in many video systems like object recognition, context aware, and intelligent visual surveillance. In this paper, we propose a method that is able to detect a moving object quickly and accurately in a condition that background and light change in a real time. Furthermore, our system detects strongly an object in a condition that the target object is covered with other objects. For effective detection, effective Eigen-space and FCM are combined and employed, and a CONDENSATION algorithm is used to trace a detected object strongly. First, training data collected from a background image are linear-transformed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Second, an Eigen-background is organized from selected principal components having excellent discrimination ability on an object and a background. Next, an object is detected with FCM that uses a convolution result of the Eigen-vector of previous steps and the input image. Finally, an object is tracked by using coordinates of an detected object as an input value of condensation algorithm. Images including various moving objects in a same time are collected and used as training data to realize our system that is able to be adapted to change of light and background in a fixed camera. The result of test shows that the proposed method detects an object strongly in a condition having a change of light and a background, and partial movement of an object.
