  • A dynamic analysis of a tilting actuator for a projection TV is presented in this study. Severe vibration of a tilting actuator deteriorates the video quality of a projection TV. For this reason, a dynamic analysis of the tilting actuator system is essential to improve the video quality. The dynamic behaviors of the mirror reactive-type tilting actuator are examined in order to obtain design requirements of the lens transmissive-type tilting actuator. Based on these design requirements, a basic design is performed for the lens transmissive-type tilting actuator. With the basic design, the dynamic characteristics of the lens transmissive-type actuator are investigated by the finite element analysis After the prototype of the actuator is manufactured, the dynamic behaviors of the prototype are examined by experiments. As a result of this study, a new design for the hinge configuration of the actuator is suggested for better performance.

  • In this paper, we present a method for extracting video objects efficiently by using the modified graph cut algorithm based on contour information. First, we extract objects at the first frame by an automatic object extraction algorithm or the user interaction. To estimate the objects' contours at the current frame, motion information of objects' contour in the previous frame is analyzed. Block-based histogram back-projection is conducted along the estimated contour point. Each color model of objects and background can be generated from back-projection images. The probabilities of links between neighboring pixels are decided by the logarithmic based distance transform map obtained from the estimated contour image. Energy of the graph is defined by predefined color models and logarithmic distance transform map. Finally, the object is extracted by minimizing the energy. Experimental results of various test images show that our algorithm works more accurately than other methods.

  • 360 VR video systems has become important to provide immersive effect for viewers. The system consists of stitching, projection, compression, inverse projection, viewport extraction. In this paper, an efficient luminance compensation technique for 360 VR video sequences, where feature extraction and histogram equalization algorithms are utilized. The proposed luminance compensation algorithm enhance the performance of stitching in 360 VR system. The simulation results showed that the proposed technique is useful to increase the quality of the displayed image.

  • Spherical videos, which are also called 360-degree videos, have become increasingly popular due to the rapid development of virtual reality technology. However, the large amount of data in such videos is a huge challenge for existing transmission system. To use the existing encode framework, it should be converted into a 2D image plane by using a specific projection format, e.g. the equi-rectangular projection (ERP) format. The existing high-efficiency video coding standard (HEVC) can effectively compress video content, but its enormous computational complexity makes the time spent on compressing high-frame-rate and high-resolution 360-degree videos disproportionate to the benefits of compression. Focusing on the ERP format characteristics of 360-degree videos, this work develops a fast decision algorithm for predicting the coding unit depth interval and adaptive mode decision for intra prediction mode. The algorithm makes full use of the video characteristics of the ERP format by dealing with pole and equatorial areas separately. It sets different reference blocks and determination conditions according to the degree of stretching, which can reduce the coding time while ensuring the quality. Compared with the original reference software HM-16.16, the proposed algorithm can reduce time consumption by 39.3% in the all-intra configuration, and the BD-rate increases by only 0.84%.

  • Stereoscopic imaging is an important branch in the field of digital imaging, and has grown significantly over the last two decades through research and development. Hologram projection technology based on stereoscopic technology has been a social issue since the development of the Hungarian physicist Daniel Garber in 1947. It is becoming more and more important as stereoscopic works using similar technologies are applied to various fields. This study analyzed content cases using classical and creative stereoscopic technology from the perspective of digital image content design and explored the multiprotocol direction of holographic projection.

  • This thesis provides a new digital convergence method and apparatus which uses area photo sensor and new analog to digital algorithmic to identify the correct digital pattern position factor of the projection system. This method and apparatus can be applied to the convergence correction in a TV receiver with a display that comprises a display screen with photo sensors positioned adjacent to screen edges. It also can be applied to the manufacture process detection of the projection system to adjust the associative convergence parameter. In this paper, demonstrate how this convergence detecting algorithmic was implemented with four area photo sensors of special designed pattern to the rear projection CRT TV.

  • MD (DLP, LCoS) Projection TV is appropriate for large screen display with high definition at a relatively low price and thus, has been popular in the digital TV market. In order to realize high resolutions in the DLP projection TV, we successfully developed the Pixel Enhancement Actuator. Furthermore, it is also required that the contrast ratio of projected video signals onto a large screen should be improved. Therefore, we propose a contrast enhancer which adjusts the amount of projected lights by a dynamic aperture and a attached position sensor.
