A Method for Generating Inbetween Frames in Sign Language Animation (수화 애니메이션을 위한 중간 프레임 생성 방법)

  • The advanced techniques for video processing and computer graphics enables a sign language education system to appear. the system is capable of showing a sign language motion for an arbitrary sentence using the captured video clips of sign language words. In this paper, a method is suggested which generates the frames between the last frame of a word and the first frame of its following word in order to animate hand motion. In our method, we find hand locations and angles which are required for in between frame generation, capture and store the hand images at those locations and angles. The inbetween frames generation is simply a task of finding a sequence of hand angles and locations. Our method is computationally simple and requires a relatively small amount of disk space. However, our experiments show that inbetween frames for the presentation at about 15fps (frame per second) are achieved so tat the smooth animation of hand motion is possible. Our method improves on previous works in which computation cost is relativey high or unnecessary images are generated.

  • This is the research to find out which one is the best for using manual among the 3 kinds of methods such as 'Text manual' and 'Animation I' and 'Animation II' which is made by Virtual Realities. Three kinds of methods have been experimented respectively. The manual for 'Animation I' adopt the motion video with basis sound and the additional comment and sound is added on the 'Animation II'. Every 3 manual has been studied and estimated by T-test and additional subjective estimation respectively, and the conclusions are as follows. The 1st answer is that 'Animation manual' is more easier than 'text manual', and the 2nd answer is that 'Animation II' is easier than 'Animation I'. Through post-interview and test, It is known that the animation manuals, which has been showing the multimedia, is more attractive than text manual.

  • As the cinematographic works are familiar to us, the infringement of the cinematographic works is also increasing. Because we are always able to be closely accessible to the cinematographic works through the Internet, this phenomenon easily occurs across the genre of the cinematographic works or the borders. The case is typical that the Music Video "Sonata of Temptation" infringes the copyrights of the Japanese Animation "Final Fantasy 7". When the two works are compared and analyzed, a considerable portion of similarity is found; we can even express that no new scene is exist except it that the singer sings in the Music Video "Sonata of Temptation". Because this situation is not only a dishonor to the indivisual but also a great loss to the nation, we should thoroughly prepare not to infringe others' copyright even unconsciously.

  • Animation is breathing life into drawings through motion. Animation is formed by the afterimage phenomenon, that is, deviation of sequential pictures in every frame makes a person possibly perceive it as a live video. Consequently, animation is mostly produced using traditional frame-by-frame methods. The study of relations on timing has been a major concern of animation theory. Nevertheless, issues of timing on production outcomes and effectiveness are mostly ignored. Special focus, analysis and leadership studies on timing are addressed on animatics. Creating better timing through animatics, that is writing movies, directing, scheduling and amending storyboard in pre-production stage, eventually shorten time to animation production. This research is centered on animatics as a cutting edge educational courses. This course will introduce students to the animation production skill and instructors to in-depth teaching points. One of the concepts that we want to go for is keeping animatics apart from mere storyboard. In conjunction with the animation theory, this research conducted under the focus of production of animatics will lead to more efficient way of education on animatics.

  • Currently digital contents such as games, animation and video art are produced and distributed actively. And moreover by the development of related industries, a variety genre of media is in the process of planning and production. However general-purpose tools such as MAYA and Soft Image do not provide the artists in terms of a variety of unique functions. Thus in this study, we analyzed and developed interface technologies that can help effectively in terms of animation scenario writing, storyboard simulation, rendering and pre-production of story board, interface technology for preview. By our designed simulate planning, people who not professional in the field of animation, can produce and preview animation easily.

A Study of the Animation Production System on the Basis of the Media Window Strategy: Focusing on Examining the Direct to Video Superhero Animation (미디어 윈도우 전용 애니메이션 제작 활성화를 위한 연구: Direct to Video 슈퍼히어로 애니메이션 제작 시스템에 대한 고찰을 중심으로)

  • This study deals with the production system of the superhero animation that are based on DC comic books and are produced by Warner Brothers company, and tries to find out ways in order to vitalize the new window of the animation market. 28 superhero animations released from 2007 until 2017 are analyzed. Several critical points are drawn out and can be applied to the Korean animation industry. There are two categories, one is about the management of the production system, and the other is about the subcontract system. In managing the production system, there are three points: First, there are several people who play the role of either a producer or a director many times. Second, producers used to work as a group. Third, some people work not only as a producer but also as a director. In carrying out outsourcing contracts, there are six points: First, only Korean and Japanese companies participate as subcontract companies. Second, about two companies used to take part in the subcontract production in a year. Third, in case of number of people involved in production, there are more Japanese than Korean. Fourth, Japanese companies deal with some parts of the pre-production as well as the main production in . Fifth, a Japanese company has a sub-subcontract with a Korean company in one episode of . Sixth, Korean companies mostly focus on the production part of key animation. Important points that the Korean production system has to consider are also suggested under the two categories. In the production system management, there are two points. It is needed to make use of the group producer system, and it is critical to develop the story line of universe type such as DC Universe. In case of the outsourcing production system, it is essential to keep up educating 2D type of animation and, at the same time, to participate actively in the global outsourcing production. By considering these crucial points, it is expected to keep producing animation that can be used for the media window such as IPTV.

A Study of Ending Credit in Animations-Focused on Credit Cookie (극장판 애니메이션의 엔딩 크레딧 양상연구: 쿠키 영상을 중심으로)

  • With the development of technology and the creation of an entertainment environment for leisure, various marketing strategies are being used in the film industry. Among them, the use of the credit cookie of ending credits was very effective in producing the series. The ending credit is the time it takes to show the names of the people who made the movie, which is meaningless to the audience. There is a cost to produce a ending credit but It wasn't made because no revenue was generated. The credit cookie was inserted into this ending credit area, which brought new pleasure to the audience. Most of them were epilogue images showing the story behind the movie, NG images showing the NG situation during film production, and In videos mentioned in the movie but not shown in the movie itself. As various ideas about credit cookie were connected with marketing, a series movie and a spin-off foretelling the derivative works after the screening work were produced and have a new meaning. As a result, the time of ending credits, which had no commercial value, became the methodology of the most powerful promotional strategy. Looking at the difference between live-action film and animation in producing such credit cookie, unlike live-action films that edit the remaining parts after shooting, the NG video of the animation has a lot of time and money to produce. So, it hasn't try very well, and it seems to have been actively produced when moving from 2D animation to 3D animation. This is because 3D animation, which has already been modeled, can create new NG scenes by simply adding animating based on the layout of the created scene. Since it is possible to produce an episode movie at a low cost and time, and to use the scenes of the movie after the production, it will be necessary to strategically produce credit cookie for promotion in animation.

  • With the development of OSMU mode in the game industry, the most popular 3D mobile game 'Honour Of Kings' in China, in addition to the entertainment effects of the game itself, has paid more attention to the production of promotional animation video contents in recent years. The huge animation market is generating abundant game revenue for 'Honour Of Kings'. This paper selected the most popular game promotional animations 'MU BIAO' and 'Bu Ye Chang'an' through a survey of 30 CG promotional animation in the official story station of 'Honour of Kings'. Important elements such as rich stories and the special effects of the gorgeous scenes, etc are summarized. Through the research of this paper, grasped the importance of promotional animation content in the game industry, and can expect the common growth of the game industry and the animation industry, which is one of the ways to create high profits in the game market.

Case study of Creating CG Handheld Steadicam using maya nParticle

  • With the recent increase in YouTube content, many YouTubers are shooting with a handheld camera. Audiences are increasingly accustomed to the movement of handheld cameras. As the camera moves faster than the camera movement of the old movies, and the camera moves splendidly to the music of the music video, the camera movement in CG animation is also needed to change. The handheld Steadicam creates a natural camera movement by compensating so that the screen does not vibrate significantly even when the vibration is large and by minimizing rotation. In order to implement such camera movement, we tried to make a handheld Steadicam using nParticle simulation of Maya software and apply it to the scene to verify whether it is possible to implement the necessary natural and various movement.
