단조 금형 SCM435 고장력 볼트의 파손 해석 (Failure Analysis on SCM435 High Strength Bolt of Forging Die)

  • Fracture behaviors of SCM435 high strength bolt have been studied including macroscopic and microscopic fracture observation, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, Vickers hardness test and applied stress evaluation. cracks (ratchet marks) were generated by the repetitive loads acting on the bolts, initial stress of bolt and the stress concentration. The applied stress was found to be slightly higher than the fatigue limit of the material. The initial stress of bolt must be removed, and the mold temperature during the process must be maintained by room temperature. Bolts are recommended to be peened to improve fatigue limit.

불화물계 용융염중에서 Steel 기지 소재의 Al 전해피복에 관한 연구 (A Study on Metalliding of Al on Steel from Molten Fluorides)

  • Diffusion coating(metalliding) of aluminium on steel from molten fluorides(29.2wt.% LiF-11.7wt.% NaF-59.1wt.% KF, FLINAK) was studied. The electrolytic cell consists of a steel cathode and a consumable aluminium anode. Effects of manganese on the aluminium deposition were also investigated. The quality of the deposit was analyzed by SEM, OM, EPMA, EDXA, and also examined by means of Micro-Vickers hardness and corrosion tests. Deposit layer was identified as an aluminium-rich iron alloy caused by diffusion process. The optimum condition for the metalliding was found to be the current density, 50 to $150mA/\textrm{cm}^2$, the bath tem-perature, $57.5^{\circ}C$, and the amount of AlF3, 10wt.%. Addition of manganese fluoride (up to 5wt.%) as a co-de-posit element improved significantly the quality of the deposit layer.

HCD플라즈마를 이용한 반응성 이온플레이팅법에 의한 TiN 코팅 (TiN coatings by HCD plasma enhanced reactive ion plating method)

  • Titanium nitride(TiN) films have been prepared by HCD plasma enhanced reactive ion plating. Density and temperature of the plasma generated by the HCD were investigated. It was shown that parameters such as the substrate bias voltage(0 350V) and N2 flow rate(10 180SCCM) influenced the growth, the growth, the microstructure and the color tone of the film mostly. In order to study the interface region, surface analysis by AES combined with sputter depth profiling was performed. Microhardness of the coated TiN films were measured by micro Vickers hardness tester. Also, the effect of coating parameters on composition, coating surface and fracture morphology, grain size and growth rate were examined.

Improved Adhesion of DLC Films by using a Nitriding Layer on AISI H13 Substrate

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) is difficult to achieve sufficient adhesion because of weak bonding between DLC film and the substrate. The purpose of this study is to improve the adhesion between substrate and DLC film. DLC film was deposited on AISI H13 using linear ion source. To improve adhesion, the substrate was treated by dual post plasma nitriding. In order to define the mechanism of the improvement in adhesive strength, the gradient layer between substrate and DLC film was analyzed by Glow Discharge Spectrometer (GDS) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The microstructure of the DLC film was analyzed using a micro Raman spectrometer. Mechanical properties were measured by nano-indentation, micro vickers hardness tester and tribology tester. The characteristic of adhesion was observed by scratch test. The adhesion of the DLC film was enhanced by active screen plasma nitriding layer.

Effect of Pre-Aging Conditions on Bake-Hardening Response of Al-0.4 wt%Mg-1.2 wt%Si-0.1 wt%Mn Alloy Sheets

  • Pre-aging heat treatment after solution heat treatment (SHT) of Al-0.4 wt%Mg-1.2 wt%Si-0.1 wt%Mn alloy sheets for auto-bodies was carried out to investigate the effect of pre-aging and its conditions on the bake-hardening response. Mechanical properties were evaluated by a tensile and Vickers hardness test. Microstructural observation was also performed using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). It was revealed that pre-aging treatments play a great role in the bake-hardening response. In addition, it was found that the sphere-shaped nanosized clusters that can directly transit to the needle-shaped ${\beta}$" phase during the paint-bake process, not being dissolved into the matrix, are formed at 343 K. The result, reveals that the dominant factor of the bake-hardening response is the pre-aging temperature rather than the pre-aging time.

나주 복암리 3호분 출토 철제유물의 금속학적 조사 (Microstructure investigation of iron artifacts excavated from No. 3 tomb of Bogam-ri in Naju City, Chollanam-do Province)

  • No. 3 Tomb of Bogam-ri, in Naju City, Chollanam-do Province, was a site excavated and inspected from 1996 to 1998 and had a various grave forms, including jar-coffins, stone-chambers and stone-cists. Although most of the metal artifacts excavated from it were severely corroded, we could implement microstructure investigation by collecting samples from the iron axes, iron coffin-nails and iron clamps in which the metal parts were remained. The metal structures were inspected by using metallographic microscope and SEM, and fine components analysis was implemented by ICP. To examine the hardness differences in accordance with the structure distribution, we measured the hardness by structures with Vickers hardness testing machine. As a result of the metal structure inspection, most of them were pure iron, ferrite, and also pearlite, cementite and widmannstaten structures were displayed. We could confirm carbonization was formed on the surface of the iron axes-B, iron coffin-nails-B, and iron clamps-A. There was no carbonization in the rest of the artifacts, and it is not certain that whether the carbonized parts were peeled off through extreme corrosion or they were not carbonized when they were made. In the particular part of a blade, the quality of the material was strengthened through processing. Due to the processing re-grain was caused and fine grain particles were formed. As a result of the ICP component analysis, there were no addition atoms because pure irons were used as materials. In the mean time, No. 17 jar-coffin where the iron axes-A are excavated, is chronologically ordered as from the late-fourth century to the mid-fifth century, and No. 1 and No. 2 stone chambers, where the rest of the artifacts were excavated, as the early-sixth century. It was difficult to relate the periodic differences with the manufacture technique artifacts which we inspected because there were no distinct characteristics of the manufacture technique of the metal structures and it is impossible to conclude the artifacts and sites are at the same period although their periods are different.

해양차량 경량화용 마그네슘합금의 마찰용접 및 AE 특성 (Friction Welding and AE Characteristics of Magnesium Alloy for Lightweight Ocean Vehicle)

  • In this paper, friction welded joints were constructed to investigate the mechanical properties of welded 15-mm diameter solid bars of Mg alloy (AZ31B). The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure reliable quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, impact energy test, Vickers hardness surveys of the bonds in the area and heat affected zone (HAZ), and macrostructure investigations. The study reached the following conclusions. The tensile strength of the friction welded materials (271 MPa) was increased to about 100% of the AZ31B base metal (274 MPa) under the condition of a heating time of 1 s. The metal loss increased lineally with an increase in the heating time. The following optimal friction welding conditions were determined: rotating speed (n) = 2000 rpm, heating pressure (HP) = 35 MPa, upsetting pressure (UP) = 70 MPa, heating time (HT) = 1 s, and upsetting time (UT) = 5 s, for a metal loss (Mo) of 10.2 mm. The hardness distribution of the base metal (BM) showed HV55. All of the BM parts showed levels of hardness that were approximately similar to friction welded materials. The weld interface of the friction welded parts was strongly mixed, which showed a well-combined structure of macro-particles without particle growth or any defects. In addition, an acoustic emission (AE) technique was applied to derive the optimum condition for friction welding the Mg alloy nondestructively. The AE count and energy parameters were useful for evaluating the relationship between the tensile strength and AE parameters based on the friction welding conditions.

선택적 레이저 용융공정을 이용한 316L 스테인리스강 분말 3차원 조형체의 미세조직 및 경도 연구 (Study on Microstructures and Hardness of STS316L Fabricated by Selective Laser Melting)

  • In this study, STS316L powders prepared by gas atomization are used to manufacture bulk structures with dimensions of $10{\times}10{\times}10mm^3$ using selective laser melting (SLM). The microstructures and hardness of the fabricated 316L stainless steel has been investigated with the laser beam overlap varied from 10% to 70%. The microstructures of the fabricated STS316L samples show a decrease in the balling and satellite of powders introducing defect in the bulk samples and the porosity caused by the gap between the molten metal pools disappearing as the overlap ratio increases, whereas a low overlap ratio results in significant balling and a large amount of isolated powders due to the increased gap between the melt pools. Furthermore, the highest value in Vickers hardness is obtained for the sample fabricated by 30% overlapped laser beams. These results show that the overlap ratio of laser beams in the SLM process should be considered as an important process parameter.

전해 플라즈마 공정에 의해 AZ61A 합금에 형성된 산화물층의 특성에 미치는 OH- 이온 농도의 영향 (Influence of OH- Ion Concentration on the Properties of Eelectrolytic Plasma Oxide Coatings Formed on AZ61A Alloy)

  • The effect of NaOH concentration on the properties of electrolytic plasma processing (EPP) coating formed on AZ61A Mg alloy is studied. Various types of EPP were employed on magnesium alloy AZ61A in a silicate bath with different concentrations of NaOH additive. Analysis of the composition and structure of the coating layers was carried out using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that the oxide coating layer mainly consisted of MgO and $Mg_2SiO_4$; its porosity and thickness were highly dependent on the NaOH concentration. The Vickers hardness was over 900 HV for all the coatings. The oxide layer with 3 g/l of NaOH concentration exhibited the highest hardness value (1220 HV) and the lowest wear rate. Potentiodynamic testing of the 3 g/l NaOH concentration showed that this concentration had the highest corrosion resistance value of $2.04{\times}10^5{\Omega}cm^2$; however, the corrosion current density value of $5.80{\times}10^{-7}A/cm^2$ was the lowest such value.

알루미나 세라믹스의 기계적 특성 평가 (The Evaluation of Mechanical Properties for Alumina Ceramics)

  • 알루미나를 대상소재로 하여 국산 3종 및 일산 1종의 고순도 알루미나 제품을 구입하여 꺾임강도, 비커스 경도, 압자압입법 및 압입강도법에 의한 파괴인성 등의 기계적 물성을 평가하였다. 꺾임강도 및 와이블 계수는 제조회사에 따라 각각 약 300~400MPa, 5~15의 범위에서 큰 편차를 나타내었다. 압입하중 변화에 따른 경도시험시 탄성회복의 영향을 무시할 수 있는 임계하중은 약 9.8N이었으며, 압입하중 98N에서의 알루미나의 경도는 약 15GPa이었다. 파괴인성은 한 압입하중에서의 측정한 평균값으로 파괴인성을 구하는 것보다 압자압입법의 경우 압입하중과 균열길이, 압입강도법의 경우 압입하중과 꺾임강도와 관계식의 기울기로부터 각각 직선회기법으로 파괴인성을 구하는 것이 보다 신뢰성이 있으며, 알루미나의 파괴인성은 약 4 MPa·m1/2이었다.
