  • The cases of conducting the vibration measurement using the mobile phone with regard to the building's horizontal vibration are very rare in Korea and foreign countries. Therefore, this study analyzed the horizontal vibration nature of the building using the mobile phone targeting 5 tall buildings, and reviewed about the applicability of the mobile phone vibration measuring instrument through the comparison/verification with the data of the existing vibration measuring instrument. The peak of the measured time series waveform was measured clearly and it showed a similar value to the existing natural frequency.

  • The monitoring and diagnostics of the rotating machinery have been received considerable attention for many years. The objectives are to classify the machinery condition and to find out the cause of abnormal condition. This paper describes a signal classification method for diagnosing the rotating machinery using the artificial neural network and the wavelet transform. In order to extract salient features, the wavelet transform are used from primary noise signals. Since the wavelet transform decomposes raw time-waveform signals into two respective parts in the time space and frequency domain, more and better features can be obtained easier than time-waveform analysis. In the training phase for classification, self-organizing feature map(SOFM) and learning vector quantization(LVQ) are applied, and the accuracies of them are compared with each other. This paper is focused on the development of an advanced signal classifier to automatise the vibration signal pattern recognition. This method is verified by small reciprocating compressors, for refrigerator and normal and abnormal conditions are classified with high flexibility and reliability.

  • The motion analysis of a translation device driven by a piezoelectric actuator is performed to identify the mechanics of impact drive mechanism and to find the maximum speed waveform. The translation device is modeled as a semidefinite two-degree-of-freedom system. The motion analysis includes effects of friction force between moving mass and contact surface, dynamics of voltage amplifier and piezoelectric elements, and hysteresis of piezoelectric actuator. Base on the model, simulation studies are carried out and then compared with experimental results. It is found that the error between moving distances obtained by analysis and experiment is less than 15% and that the actual motion of moving mass is well predicted by the analytical work, finally, precision positioning experiments are carried out by using a proximity sensor as a feedback sensor. Position control of moving mass is initiated by the maximum speed waveform and finely tuned by the scaled down waveform so that accurate positioning is accomplished within the resolution of the sensor.

  • In this paper, an LPM controller using microprocessor was implemented and adopted Microstep method to control the LPW. In Microstep method, current waveform is sinusoidal not square. This method is characterized by less vibrating, less noisy, and more precise position control. Also, we simulate the static thrust characteristics for each waveform. The experiment was performed according to the mechanical vibration at the acceleration mode and slewing mode. The current tracks reference sinusoidal waveform well and stability was improved as we expected. Therefore, the possibility of the open loop position control was proposed.

  • An experimental study has been made with the use of time reversal concepts to recover the input waveform in a long range propagation of dispersive Lamb waves. Three techniques have been tested: Regular TR, 1 bit TR and Inverse filter (IF). The IF approach was found to completely recover the original input signal. Moreover, the IF technique significantly increases the contrast, i.e., the ratio of the recovered signal and the sideband signal.

  • Recently, high-efficiency machining in the production of high-value products with complex shapes has constantly been required along with the need for hybrid machining. In this study, in addition to wire-cut Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) and vibration, we present the possibility of a hybrid process by carrying out an experiment with aluminum alloy, and the hybrid process determines the nature of the surface. The selected experimental parameters are waveform, amplitude, peak current, and two-dimensional (2D) vibration. The experimental results give the guideline for selecting reasonable machining parameters. The surface roughness was improved about 20% with increases in the amplitude of the vibration.

  • In order to improve the environmental vibration, it is necessary to method for not only reduce the vibration source, but also control the vibration path. In this study, we used borebole for estimate the vibration reduction. And also, we analyzed displacement and vibration velocity caused by the position of borehole as well as the condition of borehole in ground structure. Visual FEA(Finite Element Analysis) program was used in this numerical analysis. The results are as follows : The displacement magnitude and X, Y direction displacement were represented to different results due to the condition and position of borehole, and were represented to the lowest values when the position of borehole is the most close condition from the vibration source. And also, the vibration velocity was decreased as using borebole in ground structure. The isolation efficiency of the vibration was calculated to maximum 18.40% when borehole was established to the most close position from the vibration source and the receive point.

  • In this study, in order to reduce appeals regarding vibration and noise from blasts, the optimum delay-time of the electronic detonator, which can minimize blast vibration, is found through blast-waveform composition and blasting simulation, and we have developed the full-face Sequential Blasting Method based on the studies of damping properties of full-face section blasting. The optimum delay-time of the electronic detonator and Full-face Sequential Blasting Method using electronic detonator was applied to the Gyeongbu high-speed railway construction site to test the feasibility of this method.

  • The objective of this research is estimating the location of interested sound source by using the similarity between a beamformer output in time domain and the candidate signal. The waveform of beamformer output at the location of sound source is similar with the waveform emitted by that source. To estimate the location of sound source by using this feature, we define quantified similarity between candidate signal and beamformer output. The candidate signal describes the signal which is generated by interested source. In this paper, similarity is defined by four methods. The two methods use time vector comparison, and the other two methods use time-frequency map or linear prediction coefficients. To figure out the results and performance of localization by using similarities, we demonstrate two conditions. The one is when two pure tone sources exist and the other condition is when several bird sounds exist. As a consequence, inner product with two time-vectors and structural similarity with spectrograms can estimate the locations of interest sound source.

  • The production of high value-added products requires efficient processing and this constant demand for complex shape processing has led to the need for hybrid processing. In this study, the surface characteristics of hybrid machining, which combines wire-cut E.D.M and vibration, are examined. The selected experimental parameters are verticality, waveform, amplitude, peak current and frequency. The experimental results provide a guideline for selecting reasonable machining parameters. Surface roughness was improved by increasing the amplitude of the vibration.
