  • As a vital component of power grids, long-span transmission tower-line systems are vulnerable to wind load excitation due to their high flexibility and low structural damping. Therefore, it is essential to reduce wind-induced responses of tower-line coupling systems to ensure their safe and reliable operation. To this end, a shape memory alloy-bidirectional tuned mass damper (SMA-BTMD) is proposed in this study to reduce wind-induced vibrations of long-span transmission tower-line systems. A 1220 m Songhua River long-span transmission system is selected as the primary structure and modeled using ANSYS software. The vibration suppression performance of an optimized SMA-BTMD attached to the transmission tower is evaluated and compared with the effects of a conventional bidirectional tuned mass damper. Furthermore, the impacts of frequency ratios and SMA composition on the vibration reduction performance of the SMA-BTMD are evaluated. The results show that the SMA-BTMD provides superior vibration control of the long-span transmission tower-line system. In addition, changes in frequency ratios and SMA composition have a substantial impact on the vibration suppression effects of the SMA-BTMD. This research can provide a reference for the practical engineering application of the SMA-BTMD developed in this study.

  • The model-free control of aeroelastic vibrations of a non-linear 2-D wing-flap system operating in supersonic flight speed regimes is discussed in this paper. A novel continuous robust controller design yields asymptotically stable vibration suppression in both the pitching and plunging degrees of freedom using the flap deflection as a control input. The controller also ensures that all system states remain bounded at all times during closed-loop operation. A Lyapunov method is used to obtain the global asymptotic stability result. The unsteady aerodynamic load is considered by resourcing to the non-linear Piston Theory Aerodynamics (PTA) modified to account for the effect of the flap deflection. Simulation results demonstrate the performance of the robust control strategy in suppressing dynamic aeroelastic instabilities, such as non-linear flutter and limit cycle oscillations.

  • The magnetoelastic interaction between electrically conducting structures and magnetic fields is suggested to be used as a possible means for vibration suppression mechanism in structural control. Effectiveness of the active control mechanism is demonstrated by an experiment which is performed to examine the basic tenets of magnetically induced vibration and magnetoelastic damping of a cantilevered beam virating in the presence of magnetic fields Experimental results show that the feedback control scheme works effectively. Several strategies are suggested to improve the controllability using the magnetic damping.

  • This paper discusses the model validation and vibration suppression of an AMB flexible rotor via additional LQG controller. The main difficulty in the vibration suppression of the flexible rotor using AMB is to realize a controller that can minimize resonance without injuring the stabilized rigid modes. In order to solve this problem, simple scheme for system modeling and controller design are developed. Firstly, the AMB flexible rotor is stabilized with a PID controller, which leads to a new stable rotor-bearing system. Then, authors propose the model validation procedure using measured open-loop frequency responses to obtain an accurate model of the AMB flexible rotor system. After that, LQG controller with modal weighting is designed to suppress resonances of the stable rotor-bearing system. Due to the poor controllability and observability of flexible modes compared to rigid ones, balancing of two Gramians is prerequisite for the fair LQG controller design. Simulation with step disturbance and experimental results of unbalance response up to 10,000 rpm verified the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • Vibration causes noise and sometimes makes structure unstable. Especially, due to the efforts of lightening, deformation of flexible structure is increased in its shape. Just a little disturbance can cause vibration and low damping ratio makes residual vibration last long time. This research is concerned with the model reference neuro-controller design for the vibration suppression of smart structures. By using a model reference neurocontroller, which is one of the algorithms of adaptive control, we performed an adaptive control of flexible cantilever plate and opened box structure with piezoelectric materials. The proposed adaptive vibration control algorithm, a model reference neuro-controller, was proved in its effectiveness by applying to an opened box structure. The model reference neuro-controller is implemented with DSP, and the real-time adaptive vibration control experiment results confirm that the model reference neuro-controller is reliable.

  • The structural vibration suppression with active constrained layer damping (ACLD) was widely studied recently. However, the literature seldom concerned with the vibration control on flow-induced vibration using active constrained layer. In this paper the wind induced vibration of cantilevered beam is analyzed and suppressed by using random theory together with a velocity feedback control strategy. The piezoelectric material and frequency dependent viscoelastic layer are used to achieve effective active damping in the vibration control. The transverse displacement and velocity in time and frequency domains, as well as the power spectral density and the mean-square value of the transverse displacement and velocity, are formulated under wind pressure at variable control gain. It is observed from the numerical results that the wind induced vibration can be significantly suppressed by using a small outside active voltage on the constrained layer.

  • In this paper, we address an actuator system, which suppresses the micro-vibration engaged by environment. The actuator system consists of two modules with a permanent and an electromagnet. In vertical mode, one module is upper the other is lower. For optimal control of alternating vibration, the rate of the attraction force and the repulsion force is exactly one. Generally, the repulsive force is smaller than the attractive force. For linear control of engaged vibration, the ratio of repulsive force and attractive force is designed to equal. The actuator system will be applied to an active vibration control system for precise vibration suppression. In this paper, the actuator structure and its important sizes are calculated by RMS and FEM analysis.

  • This paper deals with a control technique of eliminating the transient vibration with respect to a waist axis of an articulated robot. This control technique is based on a model-based control in order to establish the damping effect on the driven mechanical part. The control model is composed of reduced-order electrical and mechanical parts related to the velocity control loop. The parameters of the control model can be obtained from design data or experimental data. This model estimates a load speed converted to the motor shaft. The difference between the estimated load speed and the motor speed is calculated dynamically, and it is added to the velocity command to suppress the transient vibration. This control method is applied to an articulated robot regarded as a time-invariant system. The effectiveness of the model-based control integrated into the position control loop is verified by simulations. Simulations show satisfactory control results to reduce the transient vibration at the end-effector.

  • A torque transmission system, which is composed of serveral gears and couplings, is flexible. Therefore, the torsion vibration occurs when the motor speed abruptly changes. Consequently, for accuracy characteristic response of motor, we must suppressed vibration. Therefore, vibration suppression is very important motor control. In order to suppress the vibration, various control method have been proposed. Specially, one method of vibration suppression is used disturbance observer and filter. The disturbance observer is used to suppress the vibration in this method. By feedback of the estimated torsion torque, the vibration can be suppressed. The coefficient diagram method is used to design the filter and proportional controller. But using coefficient diagram method, not adapted controller parameter in disturbance. In order to solve this problem. we used fuzzy controller for auto tuning controller parameter $K_P$. We proved of this approach is confirmed by simulation.

  • Vibration control of a plate using an optical fiber sensor and a PZT actuator is considered in this study. An aluminum plate with attached Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometer (EFPI) and PZT actuator is prepared for experimental investigation. Vibration level of EFPI that can represent the mechanical strain without severe distortion is validated by forced vibration experiment. A numerical model of the plate is constructed based on the experimentally obtained frequency responses, and an optimal controller is designed for the multi-modal vibration suppression. It is found that the vibration level of the first three modes can be greatly reduced. The effect of low-pass filtering used to eliminate high frequency noise on the stability and control performance is also considered.
