  • In this paper, an iterative learning control method is applied to suppress the vibration of a 2-mass system which has a flexible coupling between a load an a motor. More specifically, conditions for the load speed without vibration are derived based on the steady-state condition. And the desired motor position trajectory is synthesized based on the relation between the load and motor speed. Finally, a PD-type learning iterative control law is applied for the desired motor position trajectory. Since the learning law applied for the desired trajectory guarantees the perfect tracking performance, the resulting load speed shows no vibration. In order to handle the initial position error, the PD-type learning law is changed to PID-type and a weight function is added to suppress the residual vibration caused by the initial error. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed learning method.

  • This paper presents the design of an active vibration suppression controller for an air-spring type vibration isolation table. Firstly, isolation system model is constructed considering the isolation table, attached equipment and voice-coil actuator. An active control system is designed based on frequency-shaped sliding mode control theory rewarding high frequency uncertainties with respect to attached equipments on the isolation table. Finally. the performance of the active isolation system is evaluated by simulation under some disturbance conditions which are transmitted from base structure of the isolation system.

  • This paper presents application possibility of Lightweight Piezoceramic Composite Actuator(LIPCA) to suppress vibration of dynamic structures as an actuator. LIPCA is composed of a piezoelectric layer, a carbon/epoxy layer and glass/epoxy layers. When compared to the bare piezoelectric ceramic(PZT), LIPCA has advantages such as high performance, durability and reliability. In this study, performances of LIPCA have been estimated in an active vibration control system. Experiments were performed on an aluminum beam with cantilever configuration. In this test, strain gages and single LIPCA are attached on the aluminum beam with epoxy resin. Digital ON-OFF control algorithm is applied into the system to exhibit performance of LIPCA as actuator in active vibration control system. First, we performed static actuation test of bare PZT and LIPCA in order to show the superiority of LIPCA. Secondly, we carried out beam vibration control test using LIPCA. The results showed LIPCA could suppress free vibration of the aluminum beam, which means that LIPCA can be applied as an actuator to control vibration of dynamic structures.

  • Performance evaluation of advanced piezoelectric composite actuator is conducted with its application of structural vibration control. Characteristics of MFC (macro fiber composite) actuator are investigated by comparing traditional piezoceramic patch actuator. Finite element modeling is used to obtain equations of motion and boundary effects of smart hull structure with MFC actuator. Dynamic characteristics of the smart hull structure are studied through modal analysis and experimental investigation. LQG control algorithm is employed to investigate active damping of hull structure. It is observed that vibration of hull structure is suppressed effectively by the MFC actuators.

  • This paper presents some examples of active control of flow-induced vibration using piezoelectric actuators. The flutter phenomenon, which is the dynamic instability of structure due to mutual interaction among inertia, stiffness, and aerodynamic forces, may cause catastrophic structural failure, and therefore the active flutter suppression is one of the main objectives of the aeroelastic control. Active flutter control has been numerically and experimentally studied for swept-back lifting surfaces using piezoelectric actuation. A finite element method, a panel aerodynamic method, and the minimum state space realization are involved in the development of the governing equation, which is efficiently used for the analysis of the system and design of control laws with modern control framework. The active control suppressed flow-induced vibrations and extended the flutter speed around by 10%. Another representative flow-induced vibration phenomenon is the oscillation of blunt bodies due to the vortex shedding. In general, it is quite difficult to set up the numerical model because of the strong non-linearity of the vortex shedding structure. Therefore, we applied adaptive positive position feedback controller, which requires no pre-determined model of the plant, and successfully suppressed the flow-induced vibration.

  • This paper presents passive vibration control method to suppress train-induced vibration on a long-span steel arch bridge. According to the train load frequency analysis, undesirable resonance of a bridge will occur when the impact frequency of the train axles are close to the modal frequencies of the bridge. Because the first mode shape of the long-span steel arch bridge may take anti-symmetric shape along the bridge direction, however, the optimal control configuration for resonance suppression should be considered carefully In this study, bridge-vehicle element is used to estimate the bridge-train interaction precisely. From the numerical simulation of a loom steel arch bridge under TGV-K train loading, dynamic magnification influences are evaluated according to vehicle moving speed and efficient control system with passive dampers are presented in order to diminish the vertical displacement and vertical acceleration.

  • This paper deals with the experimental assessment of the vibration suppression of the smart structures. First, we have presented the paper about the new high-speed active control system that we have developed using the DSP320C6713 microprocessor and a peripheral system composed of a data acquisition system, A/D and D/A converters, piezoelectric (PZT) actuator/sensors, and drivers using PA95. Since fast data processing is very important in the active vibration control of the structures, we utilized the fast processing DSP320C6713 microprocessor as a main processor to the controller and fast peripheral devices for fast control loop. To realize a fast active vibration control, we have analyzed and tested the processing time of the peripheral devices and provided the corresponding test results. Especially, we have focused on achieving the fast signal amplification of the PA95 device since it takes most of loop times of the control system. Finally, we performed numerous experiments of active vibration control of the aluminum plate to validate the superior performance of the developed control system based on previous mode tests of the plate.

  • There are several methods in the mathematical modeling of a satellite with flexible appendages. In this paper, the hybrid Lagrange's equations of motion using assumed modes method are derived. The assumed modes method is one of approximate methods which have shorter calculation time due to low-dimension compare with FEM. These consist of three-equations about angular velocities and two-equations about flexible deformations, and physically represent interaction between hub and solar panel. In an attitude control, a control law is designed to minimize a given performance index considering not only control input but also vibration suppression. For these purpose, this paper applies LQG and LQG/LTR schemes to this model and finally show the capability for attitude control including vibration suppression. Especially, this paper shows the method of assumption as nonsingular system through singular value division for LQG/LTR design.

  • she purpose of this paper is to propose an approach to suppress the vibration of three-mass inertia system based on the LMI theory. and confirm its validity through simulations under the condition of parameter variation. First, the existing $H_{\infty}$ servo problem is modified to a structure to which the LMI theory can be applied by virtue of the interval model principle. By adopting this structure, we can divide given specifications fur the vibration suppression problem into $H_2$and $H_{\infty}$ performance criteria. The results of simulation for the three-mass inertia system show that the proposed design approach is quite effective.

  • In this paper, we have studied on the active vibration control of an automotive roof in passenger car's structure using piezoelectric material as the actuator and sensor attached on the surface of the automotive roof, As a control algorithm, negative velocity feedback control method is used in the study and the position of the sensor is almost attached on the nearest position of maximum normal stresses occurring while the roof is vibrating due to disturbance or exciting, Also, the actuator is attached on the other side mostly collocated to the sensor. The optimum positions have the maximum stresses of the roof which have been found in the result of the finite element analysis using Nastran software, As the fundamental experiments, a beam and plate have also been implemented to verify the performance of vibration suppression. Finally the experiment of the roof has been carried out and The roof experiment has just given a possibility to an active vibration control of the automotive structure still not applied for passenger cars.
