  • This research analyzes the dynamic stability of stiffened plates on elastic foundations using the finite element method. For analyzing the stiffened plates, both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory were applied. In application of the finite element method, 8-nodes serendipity element system and 3-nodes finite element system were used for plate and beam elements, respectively Elastic foundations were modeled as the Pasternak foundations in which the continuity effect of foundation is considered. In order to verify the theory of this study, solutions obtained by this analysis were compared with the classical solutions in open literature and experimental solutions. The dynamic stability legions of stiffened plates on Pasternak foundations were determined according to changes of in-plane stresses, foundation parameters and dimensions of stiffener.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine sound absorption characteristics of sintered Al(aluminum) plate. Comparison between experiment and theoretical analysts by using empirical formula are made. Based on comparison. it is found that Voronina model gives more reasonable explanation for sound absorption characteristics of sintered Al plates. Effect of air gap with varying the thickness of plates are also investigated, which concludes that the air gap generally increase absorption but for too thick thickness of Al plates. Al plates with air gap shows 0.85∼0.9 of NRC(Noise Reduction Coefficient) measured in reverberation room. which is comparable to glass wool. Comparison between normal and random Incident absorption shows that random incident absorption is higher than normal incident absorption.

  • A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and tower structures, with irregular cross-sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by D. H. Kim in 1974. This method has been developed for two-dimensional problems including the laminated composite plates and was proved to be very effective for the plates with arbitrary boundary conditions and irregular sections. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the clamped composite plates with non-uniform cross-section and with attached point mass/masses is presented.

  • An improved formulation of the MNDIF method is introduced to extract highly accurate natural frequencies of concave plates with arbitrary shape. Originally, the MNDIF method cannot yield accurate natural frequencies for concave plates. It can be applicable to only convex plates. To overcome this weak point, a new approach of dividing a concave plate into two convex domains and applying the MNDIF method to each domain is proposed and the validity and accuracy are shown in verification examples.

  • A new formulation of the non-dimensional dynamic influence function method, which is a type of the meshless method, is introduced to extract highly accurate eigenvalues of clamped plates with arbitrary shape. Originally, the final system matrix equation of the method, which was introduced by the author in 1999, does not have a form of algebraic eigenvalue problem unlike FEM. As the result, the non-dimensional dynamic influence function method requires an inefficient process to extract eigenvalues. To overcome this weak point, a new approach for clamped plates is proposed in the paper and the validity and accuracy is shown in verification examples.

  • This paper deals with the static and dynamic behavior of Functionally Graded Carbon Nanotubes (FG-CNT)-reinforced porous sandwich (PMPV) polymer plate. The model of nanocomposite plate is investigated within the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). Two types of porous sandwich plates are supposed (sandwich with face sheets reinforced / homogeneous core and sandwich with homogeneous face sheets / reinforced core). Functionally graded Carbon Nanotubes (FG-CNT) and uniformly Carbon Nanotubes (UD-CNT) distributions of face sheets or core porous plates with uniaxially aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes are considered. The governing equations are derived by using Hamilton's principle. The solution for bending and vibration of such type's porous plates are obtained. The detailed mathematical derivations are provided and the solutions are compared to some cases in the literature. The effect of the several parameters of reinforced sandwich porous plates such as aspect ratios, volume fraction, types of reinforcement, number of modes and thickness of plate on the bending and vibration analyses are studied and discussed. On the question of porosity, this study found that there is a great influence of their variation on the static and vibration of porous sandwich plate.

  • Anisotropic materials are increasingly required in modern technological applications. Certainly, civil, mechanical and naval engineers frequently deal with the situation of analyzing the dynamical behaviour of structural elements being composed of such materials. For example, panels of anisotropic materials must sometimes support electromechanical engines, and besides, holes are performed in them for operational reasons e.g., conduits, ducts or electrical connections. This study is concerned with the natural frequencies and normal modes of vibration of rectangular anisotropic plates supported by different combinations of the classical boundary conditions: clamped, simply - supported and free, and with additional complexities such holes of free boundaries and attached concentrated masses. A variational approach (the well known Ritz method) is used, where the displacement amplitude is approximated by a set of beam functions in each coordinate direction corresponding to the sides of the rectangular plate. Consequently each coordinate function satisfies the essential boundary conditions at the outer edge of the plate. The influence of the position and magnitude of both hole and mass, on the natural frequencies and modal shapes of vibration are studied for a generic anisotropic material. The classical Ritz method with beam functions as spatial approximation proved to be a suitable procedure to solve a problem of such analytical complexity.

  • In the present paper, a simple analytical model is developed based on a new refined parabolic shear deformation theory (RPSDT) for free vibration and buckling analysis of orthotropic rectangular plates with simply supported boundary conditions. The displacement field is simpler than those of other higher-order theories since it is modeled with only two unknowns and accounts for a parabolic distribution of the transverse shear stress through the plate thickness. The governing differential equations related to the present theory are obtained from the principle of virtual work, while the solution of the eigenvalue problem is achieved by assuming a Navier technique in the form of a double trigonometric series that satisfy the edge boundary conditions of the plate. Numerical results are presented and compared with previously published results for orthotropic rectangular plates in order to verify the precision of the proposed analytical model and to assess the impacts of several parameters such as the modulus ratio, the side-to-thickness ratio and the geometric ratio on natural frequencies and critical buckling loads. From these results, it can be concluded that the present computations are in excellent agreement with the other higher-order theories.

  • For high-speed aircraft and high-speed civil transport planes, certain structural skin components are subjected to very large acoustic loads in an elevated thermal environment. In this study, we used the single-mode Fokker-Panck distribution to predict displacements of isotropic plates subject to thermo-acoustic combined load. The single mode was formulated to predict the nonlinear dynamic responses of postbuckled plates under acoustic random excitation. Acoustic random excitation was used with Gauss distribution. Some important effects of the snap-through motion on the dynamic responses of the postbuckled plates are described.

  • Composite materials also known as fiber reinforced plastics have been developed and used in many engineering applications due to their outstanding mechanical properties. Laminated plates as structural components that are made of in composite material are widely used. Therefore, nonlinear response of laminated composite plates modeled with finite elements and excited by stochastic loading is studied. The classical laminated plate theory is used to account for the variation of strains through the thickness for modeling laminated thin plates. Approximate nonlinear random vibration analysis is performed using the method of equivalent linearization to account for material non-linearity.
