회전 기계 고장 진단을 위한 최근접 이웃 분류기의 기각 전략 (Rejection Scheme of Nearest Neighbor Classifier for Diagnosis of Rotating Machine Fault)

  • The purpose of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis is to detect faults occurring in machinery in order to improve the level of safety in plants and reduce operational and maintenance costs. The recognition performance is important not only to gain a high recognition rate bur a1so to minimize the diagnosis failures error rate by using off effective rejection module. We examined the problem of performance evaluation for the rejection scheme considering the accuracy of individual c1asses in order to increase the recognition performance. We use the Smith's method among the previous studies related to rejection method. Nearest neighbor classifier is used for classifying the machine conditions from the vibration signals. The experiment results for the performance evaluation of rejection show the modified optimum rejection method is superior to others.

  • This paper presents the approach involving fault detection and diagnosis of gears using pattern recognition and Wavelet transform. It describes result of the comparison between KDI (Kullback Discrimination Information) with the nearest neighbor classification rule as one of pattern recognition methods and Wavelet transform to know a way to detect and diagnosis of gear damages experimentally. To model the damages 1) Normal (no defect), 2) one tooth is worn out, 3) All teeth faces are worn out 4) One tooth is broken. The vibration sensor was attached on the bearing housing. This produced the total time history data that is 20 pieces of each condition. We chose the standard data and measure distance between standard and tested data. In Wavelet transform analysis method, the time series data of magnitude in specified frequency (rotary and mesh frequency) were earned. As a result, the monitoring system using Wavelet transform method and KDI with nearest neighbor classification rule successfully detected and classified the damages from the experimental data.

Effective electromechanical coupling coefficient of adaptive structures with integrated multi-functional piezoelectric structural fiber composites

  • This paper presents a linear computational homogenization framework to evaluate the effective (or generalized) electromechanical coupling coefficient (EMCC) of adaptive structures with piezoelectric structural fiber (PSF) composite elements. The PSF consists of a silicon carbide (SiC) or carbon core fiber as reinforcement to a fragile piezo-ceramic shell. For the micro-scale analysis, a micromechanics model based on the variational asymptotic method for unit cell homogenization (VAMUCH) is used to evaluate the overall electromechanical properties of the PSF composites. At the macro-scale, a finite element (FE) analysis with the commercial FE code ABAQUS is performed to evaluate the effective EMCC for structures with the PSF composite patches. The EMCC is postprocessed from free-vibrations analysis under short-circuit (SC) and open-circuit (OC) electrodes of the patches. This linear two-scale computational framework may be useful for the optimal design of active structure multi-functional composites which can be used for multi-functional applications such as structural health monitoring, power harvest, vibration sensing and control, damping, and shape control through anisotropic actuation.

Stable modal identification for civil structures based on a stochastic subspace algorithm with appropriate selection of time lag parameter

  • Based on the alternative stabilization diagram by varying the time lag parameter in the stochastic subspace identification analysis, this study aims to investigate the measurements from several cases of civil structures for extending the applicability of a recently noticed criterion to ensure stable identification results. Such a criterion demands the time lag parameter to be no less than a critical threshold determined by the ratio of the sampling rate to the fundamental system frequency and is firstly validated for its applications with single measurements from stay cables, bridge decks, and buildings. As for multiple measurements, it is found that the predicted threshold works well for the cases of stay cables and buildings, but makes an evident overestimation for the case of bridge decks. This discrepancy is further explained by the fact that the deck vibrations are induced by multiple excitations independently coming from the passing traffic. The cable vibration signals covering the sensor locations close to both the deck and pylon ends of a cable-stayed bridge provide convincing evidences to testify this important discovery.

LPC와 DNN을 결합한 유도전동기 고장진단 (Fault Diagnosis of Induction Motor using Linear Predictive Coding and Deep Neural Network)

  • As the induction motor is the core production equipment of the industry, it is necessary to construct a fault prediction and diagnosis system through continuous monitoring. Many researches have been conducted on motor fault diagnosis algorithm based on signal processing techniques using Fourier transform, neural networks, and fuzzy inference techniques. In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis method of induction motor using LPC and DNN. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the fault diagnosis was carried out using the vibration data of the induction motor in steady state and simulated various fault conditions. Experimental results show that the learning time of our proposed method and the conventional spectrum+DNN method is 139 seconds and 974 seconds each executed on the experimental PC, and our method reduces execution time by 1/8 compared with conventional method. And the success rate of the proposed method is 98.08%, which is similar to 99.54% of the conventional method.

엔드밀 가공시 채터 모델링과 진단에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Modeling and Diagnostics on Chatter in Endmilling Operation)

  • In this study, the static and dynamic characteristics of endmilling process were modelled and the analytic realization of chatter mechanism was discussed. In this reward, We have discussed on the comparative assessment of recursive time series modeling algorithms that cal represent time machining process and detect the abnormal machining behaviors in precision endmilling operation. In this study, simulation and experimental works were performed to show the malfunctional behaviors. For this purpose, new recursive algorithm(RLSM) was adopted for the oil-line system identification and monitoring of a machining process, we can apply these new algorithms in real process for detection of abnormal chatter. Also, The stability lobe of chatter was analysed by varying parameter of cutting dynamics in regenerative chatter mechanics.

Dynamic Characterization of Sub-Scaled Building-Model Using Novel Optical Fiber Accelerometer System

  • This paper presents the damage assessment of a building structure by using a novel optical fiber accelerometer system. Especially, a sub-scaled building model is designed and manufactured to check up the feasibility of the optical fiber accelerometer for structural health monitoring. The novel accelerometer exploits the moir$\acute{e}$ fringe optical phenomenon and two pairs of optical fibers to measure the displacement with a high accuracy, and furthermore a pendulum to convert the displacement into acceleration. A prototype of optical fiber accelerometer system has been successfully developed that consists of a sensor head, a control unit and a signal processing unit. The building model is also designed as a 4-story building with a rectangular shape of $200{\times}300$ mm of edges. Each floor is connected to the next ones by 6 steel columns which are threaded rods. Basically, a random vibration test of the building model is done with a shaker and all of acceleration data is successfully measured at the assigned points by the optical fiber accelerometer. The experiments are repeated in the undamaged state and the damaged state. The comparison of dynamic parameters including the natural frequencies and the eigenvectors is successfully carried out. Finally, the optical fiber accelerometer is proven to be prospective to evaluate dynamic characteristics of a building structure for the damage assessment.

  • SCR(Thyristor) type $CO_2$ welders have widely used for the welding process of heavy industries such as shipbuilding and plant. Since the industrial fields of shipbuilding and plant are usually exposed to severe welding condition with lots of dust, extreme temperature, high humidity and vibration, it is not recommended to use inverter type welder despite its state-of-the-art technology. Many sophisticated functions in the inverter welder may not work due to malfunction of its sensitive components. Hence this study focused on digitalization of SCR $CO_2$ welder by making use of microprocessor for SCR phase control. By this application, fine control of output of the $CO_2$ welding systems is achieved. Also pulse output mode of operation is realized and its verification is carried out with aluminum sample welding. The experimental results showed sound weld bead. The front operation panel provide user with numerical parameter settings and monitors. It will help precise weld process monitoring and control with digital value.

  • The O&M (Operation and Maintenance) phase of offshore plants with a long life cycle requires heavy charges and more efforts than the construction phase, and the occurrence of an accident of an offshore plant causes catastrophic damage. So previous studies have focused on the development of advanced maintenance system to avoid unexpected failures. Nowadays due to the emerging ICTs (Information Communication Technologies) and sensor technologies, it is possible to gather the status data of equipment and send health monitoring data to administrator of an offshore plant in a real time way, which leads to having much concern on the condition based maintenance policy. In this study, we have reviewed previous studies associated with CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) of offshore plants, and introduced an algorithm predicting the next failure time of the compressor which is one of essential mechanical devices in LNG FPSO (Liquefied Natural Gas Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel). To develop the algorithm, continuous time Markov model is applied based on gathered vibration data.

A structural damage detection approach using train-bridge interaction analysis and soft computing methods

  • In this study, a damage detection approach using train-induced vibration response of the bridge is proposed, utilizing only direct structural analysis by means of introducing soft computing methods. In this approach, the possible damage patterns of the bridge are assumed according to theoretical and empirical considerations at first. Then, the running train-induced dynamic response of the bridge under a certain damage pattern is calculated employing a developed train-bridge interaction analysis program. When the calculated result is most identical to the recorded response, this damage pattern will be the solution. However, owing to the huge number of possible damage patterns, it is extremely time-consuming to calculate the bridge responses of all the cases and thus difficult to identify the exact solution quickly. Therefore, the soft computing methods are introduced to quickly solve the problem in this approach. The basic concept and process of the proposed approach are presented in this paper, and its feasibility is numerically investigated using two different train models and a simple girder bridge model.
