  • In this study, we perform 3-D reconstruction of human proximal femur from DICOM files by using voxel mesh algorithm. After 3-D reconstruction, the model converted to Finite Element model which developed for automatically making not only 3-D geometrical model but also FE model from medical image dataset. During this job, trabecular pattern, one of characteristic of human bone can be added to the model by means of giving it's own elastic property calculated from intensity in CT scanned image to the each voxel. And then another model is made from same image dataset which have two material properties - one corresponds to cortical bone, another to trabecular bone. Finally, validity of voxel mesh technique is verified through comparing results of FE analysis, free vibration and stress analysis.

  • Spart-ignition engine knock is an abnormal combustion phenomenon originated from auto- ignition of a portion of or the entire end-gas during the later stage of combustion process. And engine knock is accompanied by a vibration of engine cylinder block and a high-pitched metallic noise. Engine knock is characterized in terms of its intensity, its occurrence crank angel and the percentage of engine knock cycles. To characterize engine knock, a precise measurements of cylinder pressure and a statistical analysis of cylinder pressure data are needed. The purpose of this study is to develope a technique to measure engine knock and its characteristics as a function of ignition timing change. A 4-cylinder spark-ignition engine and unleaded gasoline, whose octane number was 94, were used for experiments. To measure engine knock and to analyze engine knock characteristics, cylinder pressure data were sampled by a high speed data acquisition system which was developed in this study. Cylinder pressure data were sampled at each 0.1.deg. crank angle and the number of cycles continuously sampled was 80.

  • The noise generated from a treadband mechanism of a tire has been the subject of this research. In particular, the treadband has been treated as an infinite tensioned beam resting on an elastic foundation which includes damping. The main objective is here to predict the sound power generated from a system mentioned above by locating harmonic point forces representing the excitation of treadband at the contact patch. It is possible to predict the sound power radiated from this structure by wavenumber transformation techniques. To find out the minimum radiated sound power, All parameters were varied. Thus this model can be used as a tire design guide for selecting parameters which produce the minimum noise radiation.

  • This study is to investigate the adhesive strength of composite material's interface on the experimental methode of tree growth in the material. The results are as follows 1) The irradiations of ultrasonic energy cause the mechanical vibration in the polymer composite materials of fluid state, so then bring about physical dispersion and heat for inorganic materials, being supposed to produce chemical interlinking reaction, decreasing of voids between filler and matrix. 2) As the intensity of ultrasonic energy and its irradiated time are larger, the tree inception and breakdown voltages increase and the tree growing is slower. so we obtain that the interface adhesive force can be strengthened by the irradiation of ultrasonic energy.

  • Especially, demands for the noise reduction of mold transformer has been becoming an common issue because it has been used mainly at the residence area such as building and ship. So, this paper investigates the noise source and countermeasure of mold transformer radiated high noise abnormally. The result of impact hammering test for core of transformer ascertains the core resonance by harmonics of line frequency and high noise can be reduced to avoid core resonance by changing torque strength of tie rod. Magnetic field analysis is performed to identify the reason that noise of V-phase is higher than U and W-phase in the normal condition. It is the cause that flux density and magnetic force of V-phase is higher than the other phase respectively.

  • In this paper a dynamic behavior(natural frequency) of a cracked cantilever beam with tip mass and follower force is presented. In addition. an analysis of the flutter and buckling instability of a cracked cantilever beam subjected to a follower compressive load is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernouli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The vibration analysis on such cracked beam is conducted to identify the critical follower force for flutter ins stability based on the variation of the first two resonant frequencies of the beam. Besides. the effect of the crack's intensity and location on the flutter follower force is studied. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations.

  • The problem of sound radiation from infinite elastic beams under the action of harmonic point forces is studied. The reaction due to fluid loading on the vibratory response of the beam is taken into account. The beam is assumed to occupy the plane z = 0 and to be axially infinite. The beam material and the elastic foundation re assumed to be lossless and Bernoulli-Euler beam theory including a tension force (T), damping coefficient (C) and stiffness of foundation $(\kappa_s)$ will be employed. The non-dimensional sound power is derived through integration of the surface intensity distribution over the entire beam. The expression for sound power is integrated numerically and the results are examined as a function of wavenumber ratio$(\gamma)$ and stiffness factor$(\Psi)$. Here, our purpose is to explain the response of sound power over a number of non-dimensional parameters describing tension, stiffness, damping and foundation stiffness.

  • A new type of cascade sandwiched piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer is presented and studied. The cascade transducer is composed of two traditional longitudinally sandwiched piezoelectric transducers, which are connected together in series mechanically and in parallel electrically. Based on the analytical method, the electromechanical equivalent circuit of the cascade transducer is derived and the resonance/anti-resonance frequency equations are obtained. The impedance characteristics and the vibrational modes of the transducer are analyzed. By means of numerical method, the dependency of the resonance/anti-resonance frequency and the effective electromechanical coupling coefficient on the geometrical dimensions of the cascade transducer are studied and some interesting conclusions are obtained. Two prototypes of the cascade transducers are designed and made; the resonance/anti-resonance frequency is measured. It is shown that the analytical resonance/anti-resonance frequencies are in good agreement with the experimental results. It is expected that this kind of cascade transducer can be used in large power and high intensity ultrasonic applications, such as ultrasonic liquid processing, ultrasonic metal machining and ultrasonic welding and soldering.
