The prototype of Korean high speed train(KHST), composed of two power cars, two motorized cais and three trailer cars, has been designed, fabricated and tested. In this paper. the body vibration has been reviewed from the viewpoint of the vehicle's safety, the ride comfort and the vibration limits for components and sub-assemblies mounted on the car-body using by analytical method and experimental method. The on-line test of KHST has been tarried out up to 260 ㎞/h in the KTX line and the results of the on-line test show that KHST has no problems in the vehicle's safety. the comfort ride and the vibration limits at this speed. And the characteristics of body vibrations has been Predicted at 300 ㎞/h and 350 ㎞/h by fitting curve about the measured acceleration signals.

The maximum speed is one of the most important performance in high speed railway vehicle. The higher the train speed is, the worse the ride comfort is, In order to solve this problem, a semi-active or active suspension can be applied to high speed railway vehicle. The variable damper with hydraulic solenoid valve is used in the semi-active suspension. But the variable damper with hydraulic solenoid valve requires tank for supplying fluid. The MR(Magneto Rheological) damper can be considered instead of hydraulic variable damper which needs additional device, i.e. reserver tank for fluid. In the case of active suspension, hydraulic actuator or electro-mechanical one is used to suppress the carbody vibration in railway vehicle. In this study the MR damper and electro-mechanical actuator was considered in secondary suspension system of high speed railway vehicle. The dynamic analysis was performed by using 10-DOF dynamic equations of railway vehicle. The performance of the semi-active suspension and active suspension system were reviewed by using MATLAB/Simulink S/W. The vibration suppression effect of semi-active and active suspension system were investigated experimentally by using 1/5-scaled railway vehicle model.

Body-on-frame type vehicle has a set of frame bushes between body and frame for vibration isolation. Such frame bushes are important vibration transmission paths to passenger space for excitations during driving. In order to reduce the vibration level of passenger space, therefore, change of complex stiffness of the frame bushes is more efficient than modification of other parts of the vehicle such as body, frame and suspension. The purpose of this study is to reduce the vibration level for ride comfort by optimization of complex stiffness of frame bushes. In order to do this, a simple finite element vehicle model was constructed and complex stiffness of the frame bushes was set to be design variables. The objective function was defined to reflect frequency dependence of passenger ride comfort. Genetic algorithm and sub-structure synthesis were applied for minimization of the objective function. After optimization level at a position of interest on the car body was reduced by about 43.7 % in RMS value. Causes for optimization results are discussed.

Shock-type vibrations are usually experienced in vehicles excited by impulsive forces. Fifteen subjects used magnitude estimation to judge the discomfort of vertical shock-type vibration generated on a rigid seat. The shocks had different frequencies and magnitudes and were produced from the response of a 1 degree-of-freedom model to a half-sine force input. The magnitudes of the shocks, expressed in terms of both peak-to-peak value and un-weighted vibration dose values, VDVs, were correlated with magnitude estimates of the discomfort. In this study, equivalent comfort contour of shock-type vibration were obtained. From the contour, it was investigated that shock-type vibration at frequency below 0.8 Hz and between 4.0 Hz and 10.0 Hz is highly sensitive to the discomfort than at other frequencies.

The suspension system of a subway vehicle is composed of $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ springs. The suspension system is the most important parameter in determining the vibration ride comfort. If the $1^{st}$ suspension spring is designed as a spring with strong stiffness to improve the running stability at high speed, it causes vehicle vibrations. In this paper, by testing and analyzing changes of the characteristics of Chevron springs, which have been the primary suspension springs used for about 20 years, we study how changing the characteristics affects vehicle acceleration and ride comfort. The lateral and longitudinal vibrational ride comfort index levels were lower than the vertical ones. Therefore, as increasing the stiffness of Chevron springs has the greatest effect on the vertical vibrational ride comfort index level, a countermeasure for vertical vibration reduction is needed when the stiffness increases owing to aging. Finally, maintenance guidelines, including the replacement time for the Chevron rubber, were proposed based on these findings.
should be in This paper presents review on human comfort criteria in major codes and standards for tall buildings. In general, human comfort criteria of tall buildings have been used by magnitude of wind-induced acceleration response. Two different indexes in determination of the magnitude have been used: the peak value which occurs during a period of time and the rms value averaged over this same period. These distinctive acceleration indexes are discussed in detail and each criterium was reviewed and compared. The distinctions arisen because of the different wave forms, or acceleration signatures were addressed. It is described that which index of acceleration should be adopted in establishment of Korean human comfort criteria. In addition, some arguments from a technical standpoint that favor the use of each index are presented.

The aim of the study is to develope an objective index for the evaluation of vehicle ride comfort using the measured vehicle accelerations. The equation of the index was derived from the correlation analysis of subjective ratings on selected vehicles and the reduced measure of the vehicle motions. First whole procedure of from the measurements to the calculation of the perceptual vibration was developed. Test condition of both the vehicle speed and the road condition was selected so as to maximize the reliability of the index. This paper suggested the equation of the objective ride index on vibration harshness, of which expected error is about 0.3 in 10 scale of subjective rating at 95% of the significance level.

In this paper, perception threshold for horizontal vibration of tall buildings was investigated. After a comparative study of human comfort criteria for wind-induced vibration in foreign countries being made, perception threshold was recorded by increasing acceleration in the range of 0.2Hz through 1.2Hz of frequency in horizontal vibration experiments, and perception of subjects was examined by a proper questionnaire. Also, the results obtained from experiments of horizontal vibration were compared with Japanese standard(AIJES-A001-2004).

This paper presents ride comfort characteristics of a quarter-vehicle magneto-rheological(MR) suspension system with respect to different tire pressure. As a first step, controllable MR damper is designed and modeled based on both the optimized damping force levels and mechanical dimensions required for a commercial full-size passenger vehicle. Then, a quarter-vehicle suspension system consisting of sprung mass, spring, tire and the MR damper is constructed. After deriving the equations of the motion for the proposed quarter-vehicle MR suspension system, vertical tire stiffness with respect to different tire pressure is experimentally identified. The skyhook controller is then implemented for the realization of the quarter-vehicle MR suspension system. Finally, the ride comfort analysis with respect to different tire pressure is undertaken in time domain. In addition, a comparative result between controlled and uncontrolled is provided by presenting vertical RMS displacement.

In recent years, requests for automotive seat comfort are increasing. An important issue of them is long-term seat comfort. Until now, the study for long-term seat comfort has been studied mainly using driver's questionnaire, changing adrenalin and electromyography. Actually the results and methodologies of them are difficult to apply to seat development and design because of money and time required. In this study, we developed Seating Feel Curve for seat comfort evaluation and a long-term seat comfort evaluation which can be applied to the development of seat comfort using seat support.
