  • This study was carried out to evaluate the influencing factors that affect the reproductive performance of cows at the Monirampur upazila in Jessore district of Bangladesh. A total of 224 cows were brought to the upazila livestock hospital for artificial insemination (AI). The cows were inseminated between 12 to 18 hours from the onset of estrus and data was obtained from the owner. Out of 224 cows, 133 became pregnant and 91 were non pregnant. In this study, the overall pregnancy rate was 59.29%. Among the age variability, the highest pregnancy rate (70.27%) was at the age of 4 years old. In case of breed variation, the highest pregnancy rate was observed in local breed (69.07%) compared with other crossbred cows. Hence the breed variations significantly influence the conception rate of cows. According to the parity, we found that the pregnancy rate was increasing with their parity but decreasing after 4th parity. The highest conception rate was observed in 3rd parity (67.74%) which was significantly higher than that of heifers (Parity-0). Here we also found that the types of bull semen used for AI had no significant effect for pregnancy rate. The skills of AI technician for AI to cows were significantly affecting the pregnancy rate. However, this study is not enough for rating and comment about the reproduction performance of cows. Therefore, further extensive study is needed for rating and recommendation for the cattle up gradation at that particular area.

  • To find out the possible inefficiencies of artificial inseminators at rectovaginal insemination in cows, inseminators' skill were evaluated by controlling the semen thawing procedure adopted and by using the technique of dye deposition in the genital tract of slaughtered cows. This was followed by refreshment training for the inseminators. Thirty seven artificial insemination technicians regularly working in the government, cooperative and NGO (Non Government Organization) artificial insemination programmes at different places of Bangladesh were included in the study. Individual technicians were asked to thaw a semen straw and deposit dye in the genital tract of slaughtered cows following the procedures they would have adopted in their actual practices of insemination. The time and water temperature adopted by technicians were recorded and genital tract after sham artificial insemination was dissected to determine the site of dye deposition. Then, the inseminators took part in a three days intensive training program. The training program was ended up with the same tests for thawing frozen semen straw and dye deposition in the genital tract of slaughtered cows. At pre training evaluation, only $25\%\;and\;72\%\;(n=36)$ inseminators adopted co..ect thawing time and temperature, respectively. At post training evaluation, all inseminators thawed semen straws for proper time and temperature. At pretraining evaluation, $21(57\%),\;11 (30\%)\;and\;3(8\%)$ inseminators deposited dye at the body of uterus, in the vagina or in cervix, and into the horn of uterus, respectively. In $2(5\%)$ cases dye did not pass into the genital tract, instead back flowed through the space between the barrel of insemination gun and sheath. At post training evaluation, all inseminators successfully deposited dye in the body of uterus. Frequent evaluation of inseminators' skill and subsequent training would help improvement of the artificial insemination technicians' skill.

  • Ten animal hospitals in Seoul were selected, and of which 41,305 practice in total for recent 1 year were analyzed based on international classification of disease(ICD) of WHO. Of the entire practice, prophylaxis cases accounted for 42.2%. Of the 9,376 cases of internal diseases, digestive system diseases accounted for 4,957 cases(52.9%), respiratory system diseases 1,776 cases(18.9%), circulatory system diseases 1,239 cases(13.2%), and neoplasms diseases 413 cases(4.4%), respectively. In the estate investment expenses, to be specific, rental guarantee deposit accounted for about 50% of the entire estate cost, foregift(48%), and monthly rent(2%). Dividing the income of animal hospitals into medical service, articles selling, and pet-dog beauty, medical service accounted for 71.6% of the entire sales, selling of articles 16.7%, and pet-dog beauty 11.6%. Publicity work for the animal hospital was done mostly through web sites on internet(47%), then through local advertising papers(23.5%), and through bulletins and telemarketing(11.8%). Manpower of the animal hospitals in this study was mostly composed of veterinarians(45.5%) up to about half of the entire staffs, while there was no veterinary technician who had specialized education in that area.

  • This study was performed to investigate the result that in-vivo or in-vitro embryos of Hanwoo cows were transferred to Holstein cows. Seventeen Hanwoo cows were used as donors for production of in-vivo embryos and fresh hanwoo in-vivo embryos were transferred to 1,150 Holsteins. And 2 embryos were transferred to 188 Holstein recipients to produce twin calves. Diagnosis on pregnancy was performed by rectal palpation at $60\sim90$ days after transfer. The pregnancy rate of Holstein recipients was 55.8% after transfer with Hanwoo in-vivo embryos and 38.2% after transfer with Hanwoo in-vitro embryos. The delivery rate of pregnant Holstein recipients was 88.4% after transfer with Hanwoo in-vivo embryos and 75.6% after transfer with Hanwoo in-vitro embryos. The rate of delivery of Holstein recipients transferred with two Hanwoo embryos was 36.2% and the rate of twin production was 25.9%. The rate of twin production by embryo transfer with in-vivo embryos was 30.4%, whereas the fate with in-vitro embryos was 15.6%. The pregnancy rate according to the grade of corpus luteum of Holstein recipients transferred with Hanwoo in-vitro embryos was 41.5 and 36.0% for A and B grade, respectively. The pregnancy rate according to the transfer in site in the uterine lumen of recipients was 40.9 and 32.7% for anterior and middle site, respectively. The pregnancy rate according to day of embryo transfer after estrus of recipients was 45.5, 38.8 and 39.7% for day 6, day 7 and day 8, respectively. There was difference of pregnancy rate according embryo transfer technician ($30.5\sim45.8%$) individual dairy farm ($21.1\sim51.0%$). These results are supposed to indicate that the rate of pregnancy after transfer with Hanwoo embryos to Holstein recipients was similar to that within the same breed, and consequently that this method would be beneficial to enhance the productivity in Hanwoo reproduction.

  • This study was conducted to determine the effect on the satisfaction of pet hospital. For this research, the study was conducted on customers who raise dogs and cats nationwide and use pet hospital. Specialties, human factors, efficiency, physical factors, and pet satisfaction were derived from factors that affect pet hospital use satisfaction. Human factors included three factors as veterinarian, staff, and pet hairdressers, and regression analysis was performed. Research shows that professional, efficiency, and physical factors have a positive (+) effect on user satisfaction, veterinarians and staff, which are detailed factors of human factors, have a positive (+) effect on user satisfaction, and pet hairdressers do not. Overall, it was analyzed that it affects the satisfaction of use in the order of efficiency, professionalism, staff, veterinarian, pet satisfaction, and physical factors. This study is meaningful in that it divided human factors into occupational groups and developed and analyzed pet satisfaction factors as factors that affect pet hospital use satisfaction, and it is expected that pet hospital can help establish strategies to improve customer satisfaction.
