  • A success of complete denture prosthesis can be determined by the satisfaction degree of the dentist and the patient. There are many factors influencing on the satisfaction of the complete denture patients. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the masticatory satisfaction and clinical evaluation, and the speech satisfaction and clinical evaluation in complete denture patients. 79 patients(total 119 complete dentures) were examined in this study who were treated in Seoul National University Dental Hospital. Through clinical evaluation, 2 examiners evaluated sex, age, edentulous period, the years of having used present complete denture, the number of the previous dentures, the state of the opposite arch, retention, stability, support, occlusion, vertical dimension of the complete denture and the condition of the residual alveolar ridge. Through questionnaires concerned with mastication and speech, examiners evaluate the satisfaction degree of the patients. This study led to the conclusion that : 1. The satisfaction degree of the mastication was lower in older patients(p<0.001) and in patients whose present complete denture period was shorter(p<0.05). The satisfaction degree of the mastication in male was higher than in female patients(p<0.01). 2. The satisfaction degree of the mastication was high when the retention of the complete denture was good(p<0.05), and when the condition of the residual alveolar ridge was good(p<0.05). 3. The satisfacion degree of the speech was high when the retention of the complete denture was good(p<0.01). 4. The satisfaction degree of the mastication was higher in patients with upper and lower complete denture than in patients with single complete denture whose oppsite arch was unilateral partial denture(p<0.05).

  • Treatment options for edentulous patients are complete denture and implant prosthesis. A two implant-retained overdenture can be considered the first treatment in the edentulous mandible, but there is no clear consensus of treatment for edentulous maxilla. Implant-retention/support overdenture shows better retention and stability than complete denture and is less expensive and more esthetic than implant-supported fixed prosthesis. CM $LOC^{(R)}$ $Pekkton^{(R)}$ attachment is a solitary type attachment and evaluated to have excellent abrasion resistance and retention with a female part made of poly-ether-ketone-ketone. Meanwhile, SR Ivocap system is injection molding method and discussed to show few changes in the vertical dimension of denture and have excellent fracture resistance. In this case, we restored maxillary arch with a four implant-retained overdenture using CM $LOC^{(R)}$ $Pekkton^{(R)}$ and SR Ivocap system, and mandibular arch with a removable partial denture. Through this procedure, satisfactory outcomes were achieved both in functional and esthetic aspects.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a scientific approach for investigating Korean dance in detail, and to examine the intense expressions and various movements, which are based on Danjeon breathing. For the purpose, we analyzed the movement changes and distribution of forces resulting from the switch in movement between exhalation and inhalation while bending, which is the most basic movement in Korean dance. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. In Korean dance, bending with breathing involves less back-and-forth-movement and more up-and-down movement, as compared to bending without breathing; this indicates greater body stability and a wider range of movements while bending with breathing. In addition, less time is required for bending with breathing at the point of switching from exhalation to inhalation, and it involves less movement of the supporting leg; thus, vending with breathing involves faster switching from bending movements to extending movements. While bending, the raised leg goes through a less smooth curve while breathing, which indicates stronger movement of the toes. Bending with breathing requires a greater braking force than bending without breathing, and the vertical force, generated by switching from exhalation to inhalation, is transferred to extending movements using the ground load. The results of this study can be potentially employed to investigate the expressions used in Korean dance on th basis of its principle of forces. Korean dance has evolved into various creative forms, and basic analytical studies of these diverse forms and related breathing methods re required in the future.

  • P.E.B (Pre-Engineering Building) system means an economical system, which designs and uses optimal section proportion of tapered members according to the magnitude of bending moment. However, it is hard to adjust the friction type bolted joint in the joint of tapered member in the P.E.B system. End-plate connection is mainly used in this system due to that difficulty. Because P.E.B system has end-plate vertical defacts by heat welding deformation, a gap between end-plates and rafter or rib can be observed. In this study, an examination of construction stability was throughly performed and analyzed by the investigation of permissible internal force of bolts in end-plate connections under the bending moment using the end-plate's initial connection-defect (gap).

  • GS E&C was awarded the contract for the construction of Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway Package EX-7 from Station Km 72+000 to Station Km 81+300 in December 2008. This project is the $7^{th}$ contract package of the 105.5 km long expressway near Hai Phong city, which includes a FCM-styled bridge along with high embankments over soft ground. For these high embankments, there is a need to treat the soft soil for improving the overall stability during construction and for reducing the post-construction settlement of the expressway. The Designer of this project had adopted four (4) different types of ground improvement techniques to treat the soft ground, including the prefabricated vertical drains (PVD), sand drains (SD), pack drains (PD, or sometimes called packed sand drains), and sand compaction piles (SCP). The main focus of soft soil treatment should be paid attention to the residual settlement after construction. In current design, however, it appeared that the secondary compression (or creep) of the improved soil layer and the consolidation settlement of the lower untreated compressible soil layer have been neglected in the estimation of the post-construction settlement. These uncalculated residual settlements may not only unsatisfy the design criteria but also raise serious problems during service period of this expressway. In this paper, the subsoil condition and current design were reviewed focusing on the employed soft soil treatment method and expected residual settlement.

  • This paper shows theresults of centrifuge model experiments to investigate the behavior of a replacement method in dredged and reclaimed ground. For this experimental work, centrifuge model tests were carried out to investigate the behavior of a replacement method in soft clay ground. Basic soil property tests were performed to find the mechanical properties of clay soil sampled from the southern coast of Korea, which was used for the ground material in the centrifuge model tests. The reconstituted clay ground of the model was prepared by applying reconsolidntion pressure in a 1 g condition with a specially built model container. Centrifuge model tests were carried out under the artificially accelerated gravitational level of 50 g. Replacement material of lead with a certain degree of angularity was used and placed until the settlement of the replacement material embankment reached a state of equilibrium. Vertical displacement of the replacement material was monitored during tests. The depth and shape of the replacement, especially the slope of the penetrated material and the water content of the clay ground were measured after finishing tests. Model tests for investigating the stability of an embankment after backfilling were also performed to simulate the behavior of a dike treated with replacement and backfilled with sandy material. As a result of the centrifuge model test, the behavior of the replacement, the mechanism of the replacement material being penetrated into clay ground, and the depth of the replacement were evaluated.

  • Cross section design of a prop-blade is carried out for VTOL(Vertical Takeoff and Landing) Quad Tilt Prop-rotor UAV with a maximum takeoff weight of 55 kg and a maximum cruising speed of 180 km/h. Design procedure for cross section design is established and design requirements for prop-blade are identified. Through the procedure, cross section design is carried out to meet the identified requirements. Main design factors including stiffness, weight per unit length, and elastic axis are obtained by using a finite element section analysis program, and the design weight of the prop-blade is predicted. The obtained design factors are used along with the rotor system analysis program CAMRAD II to evaluate the dynamic stability of prop-blade in operating environment. In addition, the prop-blade load is obtained by CAMRAD II software, and it is used to verify the safety of the prop-blade structure. If the design results are not satisfactory, design changes are made in an iterative manner until the results satisfy the design requirements.

  • PURPOSE: This study investigated the effect that an elastic therapeutic taping treatment given to patients with chronic ankle instability had on the vertical ground reaction force, center of pressure, and range of motion in the ankle, knee and hip joints, during a Cross-cutting movement from landing. METHODS: This study analyzed 12 able-bodied adults and 12 patients with chronic ankle instability classified by using the Cumberland tool in the motion analysis laboratory, Hanseo University. The experiment was conducted under two conditions elastic taping and no treatment. In order to analyze the difference between the groups. An independent t-test was performed at p>.01. RESULTS: Plying an elastic therapeutic taping to the patients with chronic ankle instability significantly decreased the range of joint motion in the inversion of the ankle joint, the flexion of the knee joint, and the flexion and internal rotation of the hip joint during a cross-cutting movement from landing in comparison with the able-bodied adults p<.01. This restriction in the range of motion decreased the center-of-pressure trajectory length of patients with chronic ankle instability p>.01. CONCLUSION: An elastic therapeutic taping treatment given to patients with chronic ankle instability causes ankle stability to increase during a cross-cutting movement from landing.

  • This study investigates the effects of the slopes of the rotational axis and bearing preloads on the natural frequencies and onset speeds of the instability of a rotor supported on gas foil bearings (GFBs). The predictive model for the rotating system consists of a rigid rotor supported on two gas foil journal bearings (GFJBs) and a pair of gas foil thrust bearings (GFTBs). Each GFJB supports approximately half the rotor weight. As the slope of the rotational axis increases from $0^{\circ}$(horizontal rotor operation) to $90^{\circ}$(vertical rotor operation), the applied load on the GFJB owing to the rotor weight decreases. The predictions show that the natural frequency and onset speed of instability decrease significantly with an increase in the slope of the rotational axis. In a parametric study, the nominal radial clearance and preload for the GFJB were changed. In general, a decrease in the nominal radial clearance lead to an increase in the natural frequency and onset speed of instability. For constant assembly clearance, the decrease in the preload changed the natural frequency and onset speed of instability with insignificant improvements in the rotordynamic stability. The present predictions can be used as design guidelines for GFBs for oil-free high-speed rotating machinery with improved rotordynamic performance.

  • The main purpose of this study is to seek better approach which explains reciprocal causality associated with factors causing social conflict and improving social integration respectively. Throughout this study, there are several important implications how social conflict can be solved in South Korea. In particular, government and policy makers in political sector should create an environment of social integration through political reforms by switching from vertical structure to horizontal structure and by encouraging ordinary people to actively participate in the policy-making processes and political activities. In economic sector, government and stakeholder associated with a certain economic issue should induce a change in the economic environment for social integration, focusing on distribution of wealth and employment stability. In social and cultural sectors, it is necessary to solve social and cultural problems (e.g., generation gap and conflict between the young and the old, multi-ethnic families, and lack of communication) by exploring better ways to establish an altruism and to interact with each other. In psychological sectors, PsyCap(Positive Psychological Capital) will help ordinary people to crate positive thinking and lead to social integration. For instance, political leaders having PsyCap are able to communicate with the people and can help the people to build positive main influencing on social integration. Finally, the improvement of the system is required because the improvement of insufficient system is the basis for reasonable and equitable social integration.
