Distribution and Ecological Range of the Alien Plant Species Mikania micrantha Kunth (Asteraceae) in Taiwan

  • In the past two decades Mikania micrantha Kunth, a climbing plant species originating from tropical America, has spread across Taiwan. It can now be found frequently in the lowlands and lower mountain areas up to 1,000 m a.s.l. in the centre and south of the island. Mikania micrantha is considered a problematic invasive alien plant species which is said to cause economical as well as environmental damage. This study investigated the ecological site characteristics of M. micrantha in Taiwan. 112 vegetation surveys were carried out in habitats where the alien plant was present. A comparison between sites with a high and a low abundance was carried out in order to assess which factors especially influence the extensive spread of the plant. Furthermore, the influence of disturbances was examined. Results showed that Mikania micrantha grows very dense in habitats which are characterized by good light conditions combined with vertical structures, such as trees. Results revealed that this invader occurs most frequently in agricultural fallows and wastelands, but it could hardly be found in the intensively managed plantations in the investigation area. Results provide great evidence that the plant is strongly influenced by disturbances, but only if impacts occur rarely.

우리나라 고층건축화재의 문제점과 그 대책의 기본방향에 관한 연구 (A Study on Problems of High-rise Building Fires in Korea and the Basic Directions for Fire Safety of High-rise Building Design)

  • Building become higher. larger and more complex than ever before, showing abrupt changes in building structures. forms and mechanical systems. Likewise hazads of fire and the scale of fire losses become more and more greater. Therefore. considerations for fire safety take up great portion of the building design process. In this study, problems of high-rise building fires and basic directions for fire safety of high-rise building design were studied through the statistical analysis of 138 fire cases. The results of this study are summarized as follows : ·Most of the fires in high-rise building occur on the low floors and the fire frequencies are very low on the upper floors. Fire casualties are liable to be more on the upper floors than on tile floor of fire origin. ·The important causes of evacuation failures were analyzed as being late in escape and lack of stairwell enclosures. ·The main cause of vertical fire spread is lack of stairwell enclosures. However, the fire spreads mainly through the enterior windows in apartment houses. The combustible materials in buildings act on as the major factors of horizontal fire spread and the improper fire doors play role of another the critical causes. ·The basic directions for fire safety of high-rise building design put much stress firstly on the compartmentation of the buildings effectively performing the provision of safe escape routes and the safe refuse places in buildings.

한국 동해에서 토모그래피용 신호를 이용한 음파 도달시간의 시변동성 (Temporal Variability of Acoustic Arrivals in the East Sea of Korea Using Tomographic Method)

  • 1999년 10월에 수행한 한국 동해 중북부 해역의 토모그래피 실험은 저주파수음원을 블라디보스톡 부근의 대륙붕 해역에 위치시켰고 수직선배열 수신기를 울릉도 부근에 고정시켜 원거리 음향 신호의 변화특성을 파악코저하였다. 음원은 위상 변조된 신호이며 울릉도 부근해역의 수직선배열 수신기를 이용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수신된 자료에 대해 도달시간 및 그 변화를 파악하였다. 이를 위해 위상 변조된 신호를 복조하였으며 특성을 파악하기 위해 도달시간 확산 및 상관성 분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과 단주기성 변화가 존재하고 있으며 이는 내부파에 의한 매질의 수직 변동에 의한 영향이라 할 수 있다.

The impact of COVID-19 on human reproduction and directions for fertility treatment during the pandemic

  • Since December 2019, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has spread rapidly, resulting in a pandemic. The virus enters host cells through angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and transmembrane protease serine subtype 2 (TMPRSS2). These enzymes are widely expressed in reproductive organs; hence, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could also impact human reproduction. Current evidence suggests that sperm cells may provide an inadequate environment for the virus to penetrate and spread. Oocytes within antral follicles are surrounded by cumulus cells, which rarely express ACE2 and TMPRSS2. Thus, the possibility of transmission of the virus through sexual intercourse and assisted reproductive techniques seems unlikely. Early human embryos express coronavirus entry receptors and proteases, implying that human embryos are potentially vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 in the early stages of development. Data on the expression of ACE2 and TMPRSS2 in the human endometrium are sparse. Moreover, it remains unclear whether SARS-CoV-2 directly affects the embryo and its implantation. A study of the effect of SARS-CoV-2 on pregnancy showed an increase in preterm delivery. Thus, vertical transmission of the virus from mother to fetus in the third trimester is possible, and further data on human reproduction are required to establish this possibility. Based on analyses of existing data, major organizations in this field have published guidelines on the treatment of infertility. Regarding these guidelines, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, reproductive treatment is crucial for the well-being of society and must be continued under suitable regulations and good standard laboratory practice protocols.

화재사례를 통한 건축물 외장재 종류별 화재발생위험성 (Fire Risk by Type of Building Exterior Material through Fire Cases)

  • Recently, the number of cases of fire spreading due to exterior materials of buildings is increasing. Due to the nature of modern architecture, which emphasizes the aesthetics of buildings, because buildings pursue a splendid appearance, they are inexpensive and have relatively good insulation performance, but an increasing number of buildings are adopting insulation materials that have poor fire safety performance. The risk of spread is also greatly increased. Since the exterior wall of a building is made of a variety of materials and structures, it is composed of a combination of several elements, including materials such as insulation and finishing materials. Therefore, it was determined that it was necessary to introduce a more systematic evaluation method for building exterior materials, and to improve the system reflecting this, away from the existing evaluation method that only checked the fire safety performance of finishing materials.

룸코너 실험을 이용한 공동구 케이블 화재 시 수평·수직 방향 온도 분석에 관한 연구 (Study on Horizontal and Vertical Temperature Analysis of Cable Fire in Common Duct using Room Corner Experiment)

  • 연구목적:지하공동구 화재는 꾸준히 발생하고 있으며, 화재로 인한 재산 및 인명피해 중 특히 재산피해의 비중이 더 크다. 공동구에서 발생하는 케이블 화재는 수직으로 빠르게 확산되어 큰 위험을 초래할 수 있으며 본 논문은 실험을 통해 화재를 재현함으로서 과학적으로 화재의 성상을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구방법:지하공동구 케이블 화재의 특성을 분석하기 위해 룸코너 실험을 통해 열방출율 및 온도변화를 측정하여 케이블 화재의 수직 및 수평 방향 전파에 대하여 정량적으로 비교·분석하였다. 연구결과:룸코너 실험(ISO 9705)을 통해 각 데이터 로거 Point 온도변화를 비교하여, 화재 진행 시 1단 케이블 중앙 Point 기준 수평방향과 수직방향으로의 착화온도 도달시간이 각각 589초, 536초로 수직방향 화재 전파가 53초 빠르다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 화재의 수직전파가 수평전파보다 상대적으로 빠르게 진행된다는 것을 증명하였고, 각 층 케이블 트레이별 화재 수평 전파 속도를 비교하여, 3단 케이블은 2단 케이블의 3.4배, 2단 케이블은 1단 케이블의 1.5배 빠른 속도로 진행되어 상방향에 위치한 케이블일수록 화재 확산 속도가 상대적으로 빠르며 화재 크기는 커진다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 결론:본 연구에서는 케이블 화재의 위험성을 파악하고 룸코너 실험의 결과를 바탕으로 케이블 화재 시 화재 수직전파의 위험성에 대해 분석하였다. 화재 확산을 막기 위한 연구와 화재 수직방향 전파를 예방하기 위한 소방 대응정책 등이 필요하며, 본 연구 논문의 시험 결과로 공동구 및 기타 화재 위험성 평가에 활용되기를 기대한다.

숲 가꾸기 실행 및 미실행지의 임분특성에 따른 산불위험도 분석 (Analysis of forest fire danger rating on the forest characteristic of thinning area and non-thinning area)

  • Since 1973, we attain a successful achievement of nation-wide afforestation such as a thick forest and heaped-up leaves. However, the higher of the formation density in forest, the more dangerous to be a large-scale forest fire whenever fire occurs. According to the type of forest in the country, 42% of the forest is occupied by conifer forest that are highly flammable, and the distribution of forest age is in a transition period from immature forest to mature one. And the structure is too weak to the forest fire for the occurrence and spread because there are too many scrub and shrub trees in the forest. As a matter of course, it is on the increase of the thinning-forest that can shift the forest structure from a weak on forest fire to a strong one nowaday. In other words, thinning-forest has primary purposes such as the promotion of producing forest trees, production of excellent timbers, and build-up of public forest area. Furthermore, in some reports, the reduction of ladder fuel by eliminating the vertical/horizontal fuel in a forest and ensuring spaces in the forest can decrease the occurrence of forest fire and the risk of spread of burning as by-effect. Therefore, this study is designed to clarify the relation with the risk of forest fire by an on-spat-investigation of the characteristics of forest composition on the thinning and the non-thinning area.

성능위주 소화설비 적용을 위한 표준랙크의 화재확산속도 평가 (Evaluation on Fire Spread Speed of Standard Rack in Korea for Performance based Fire Extinguishing System)

  • 물품이 수직 집약적인 형태로 적재되는 랙크식 창고는 화재발생 시 화염의 급속한 상승으로 인해 그 피해가 매우 심각하다. 이에 ESFR 및 In-Rack 스프링클러, 수직 및 수평차단막 등, 다양한 소화설비 적용을 통해 화재확산 억제에 노력하고 있으나 랙크의 크기 및 적재밀도, 적재물품의 종류 등, 매우 다양한 구성조건으로 인해 적절한 소화설비 선정에 어려움이 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 현장조사 및 설문조사 등을 통해 국내 랙크식 창고 실정을 반영한 표준랙크를 제작하였으며, 발화위치 조건에 따른 화재특성 확인을 위해 실규모화재시험을 수행하였다. 이를 통해 도출된 화재확산속도는 향후, 개발 및 적용 예정 소화설비들의 성능비교를 위한 기초자료로서 유용하게 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

중복도형 인텔리전트빌딩 화재시 연기제어를 통한 피난안전성 확보에 관한 연구 (A Study on Securing Safety of Evacuation through Smoke Control in Case of Fire at the Central Corridor Type Intelligent Buildings)

  • This study investigated the smoke blocking and control systems for the safety of residents evacuation and for the prevention of smoke spread through the central corridor in the event of central corridor type of intelligent building fire. We offered additional ways of utilizing smoke ventilators and intake ventilation equipment and utilized CFD-based fire simulation program(FDS Ver.5.5.3) in order to analyze the effect. As a result, many differences in the smoke block effect, depending on the application of smoke ventilator and location of installation, was found. In addition, the result was found that larger effect was showed not in the case of application of smoke ventilator in central corridor only but application in fire room. The reason is that the smoke leakage is blocked primarily as air is flowed in the fire room through open door by operation of intake smoke ventilator in the public corridor and secondarily, the smoke leakage to the public corridor could be blocked as fire and smoke were released to the opened smoke ventilator continuously. Especially, the effect was maximized through complex interactions by applying smoke ventilator and intake ventilation equipment in corridor together rather than applying smoke ventilator and intake ventilation equipment independently. The proposed measure through this study shall be considered from architectural plan as one of ways for blocking from smoke spread to the central corridor in the central corridor type of intelligent building. In addition, flaws on regulation shall be established and supplemented.

지하공동위에 위치한 확대기초지 지지력 산정 기법 (Bearing Capacity Determination Method for Spreading Footings Located above Underground Cavities)

  • 본 고에서는 지하공동위에 위치한 확대기초의 지지력 산정기법을 제시하였다. 지지력 산정기법의 개발을 위해서 필자에의해 개발된 3차원 탄소성 유한요소해석 프로그램을 이용하여 지하공동위에 위치한 확대기초의 지지력에 대한 매개변수 변환연구를 수행하였다. 매개변수 변환연구의 결과를 이용하여 각 경계조건의 지지력을 평가하고 이를 지지력 산정기법 개발에 필요한 데 이터 베이스로 활용하였으며, 수집된 데이터 베이스에 대한 다중회귀분석을 통해 반 경험적 지지력 산정기법을 개발하였다. 개발된 지지력 산정기법은 기존의 모형기초실험 및 유한요소해석 결과와의 비교를 통해 그 타당성이 검증되었으며, 그 결과 본 연구의 범위내에 해당하는 실제 현장문제에 효율적으로 적용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
