A bench scale slurry bubble column reactor (SBCR) with active-Fe based catalyst was developed for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) reaction. Considering the highly exothermic reaction heat generated in the bench scale SBCR, an effective cooling system was devised consisting of a U-type dip tube submerged in the reactor. Also, the physical and chemical properties of the catalyst were controlled so as to achieve high activity for the CO conversion and liquid oil ($C_{5+}$) production. Firstly, the FTS performance of the FeCuK/$SiO_2$ catalyst in the SBCR under reaction conditions of $265^{\circ}C$, 2.5 MPa, and $H_2/CO=1$ was investigated. The CO conversion and liquid oil ($C_{5+}$) productivity in the reaction were 88.6% and 0.226 $g/g_{cat}-h$, respectively, corresponding to a liquid oil ($C_{5+}$) production rate of 0.03 bbl/day. To investigate the FTS reaction behavior in the bench scale SBCR, the effects of the space velocity and superficial velocity of the synthesis gas and reaction temperature were also studied. The liquid oil production rate increased upto 0.057 bbl/day with increasing space velocity from 2.61 to 3.92 $SL/h-g_{Fe}$ and it was confirmed that the SBCR bench system developed in this research precisely simulated the FTS reaction behavior reported in the small scale slurry reactor.
The present study conducted a numerical modeling on the diesel SCR (selective catalytic reduction) system using ammonia as a reductant over vanadium-based catalysts $(V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2)$. Transient modeling for ammonia adsorption/desorption on the catalyst surface was firstly carried out, and then the SCR reaction was modeled considering for it. In the current catalytic reaction model, we extended the pure chemical kinetic model based on laboratory-scale powdered-phase catalyst experiments to the chemico-physical one applicable to realistic commercial SCR reactors. To simulate multi-dimensional heat and mass transfer phenomena, the SCR reactor was modeled in two dimensional, axisymmetric domain using porous medium approach. Also, since diesel engines operate in transient mode, the present study employed an unsteady model. In addition, throughout simulations using the developed code, effects of space velocity on the DeNOx performance were investigated.

To find the optimum mixing ratio of WGS catalyst with $CO_2$ absorbent for SEWGS process, water gas shift reaction tests were carried out in a fluidized bed reactor using commercial WGS catalyst and sand (as a substitute for $CO_2$ absorbent). WGS catalyst content, gas velocity, and steam/CO ratio were considered as experimental variables. CO conversion increased as the catalyst content increased during water gas shift reaction. Variations of the CO conversion with the catalyst content were small at low gas velocity. However, those variations increased at higher gas velocity. Within experimental range of this study, the optimum operating condition(steam/CO ratio=3, gas velocity = 0.03 m/s, catalyst content=10 wt.%) to get high CO conversion and $CO_2$ capture efficiency was confirmed. Moreover, long time water gas shift reaction tests up to 20 hours were carried out for two cases (catalyst content = 10 and 20 wt.%) and we could conclude that the WGS reactivity at those conditions was maintained up to 20 hours.
A modified form of the integrated Michaelis-Menten equation would provide a useful means of evaluating enzyme kinetic parameters in nonlinear progress reaction with time. A slight modification of the Lineweaver-Burk form (and other variants) using for the velocity, the change in substrate concentration divided by time ($\={v}$), and for the velocity, the change in substrate for the time interval ($\={S}$), allows this linear reciprocal form to be used with negligible error even when as much as half of the substrate is utilized during the time interval.

Methane combustion over perovskite-type oxides prepared using the malic acid method was investigated. To enhance the catalytic activity, the perovskite oxides were modified by the substitution of metal into their A or B site. In addition, the reaction conditions, such as the temperature, space velocity, and partial pressure of the methane were varied to understand their effect on the catalytic performance. With the LaCoO3-type catalyst, the partial substitution of Sr or Ba into site A enhanced the catalytic activity in the methane combustion. With the LaBO3(B=Co, Fe, Mn, Cu)-type catalyst, the catalytic activities were exhibited in the order of Co>Fe Mn>Cu. Futhermore, the partial substitution of Co into site B enhanced the catalytic activity, whereas an excess amount of Co decreased the activity. The surface area and catalytic activity of the perovskite catalysts prepared using the malic acid method showed higher values than those prepared using the solid reaction method. The catalytic activity was enhanced with decreased methane concentration and with a decrease in the space velocity.
The pyrolysis reactions of atomic hydrogen with chloroform were studied In a 4 cm 1.6. tubular flow reactor with low flow velocity 1518 cm/sec and a 2.6 cm 1.4. tubular flow reactor with high flow velocity (1227 cm/sec). The hydrogen atom concentration was measured by chemiluminescence titration with nitrogen dioxide, and the chloroform concentrations were determined using a gas chromatography. The chloroform conversion efficiency depended on both the chloroform flow rate and linear flow velocity, but 416 not depend on the flow rate of hydrogen atom. A computer model was employed to estimate a rate constant for the initial reaction of atomic hydrogen with chloroform. The model consisted of a scheme for chloroform-hydrogen atom reaction, Runge-Kutta 4th-order method for Integration of first-order differential equations describing the time dependence of the concentrations of various chemical species, and Rosenbrock method for optimization to match model and experimental results. The scheme for chloroform-hydrogen atom reaction Included 22 elementary reactions. The rate constant estimated using the data obtained from the 2.6 cm 1.4. reactor was to be 8.1 $\times$$10^{-14}$$cm^3$/molecule-sec and 3.8 $\times$$10^{-15}$ cms/molecule-sec, and the deviations of computer model from experimental results were 9% and 12% , for the each reaction time of 0.028 sec and 0.072 sec, respectively.
The transient mass transfer in a single droplet system consisting of 1-octanol (continuous phase)/aqueous succinic acid solution (dispersed phase) was investigated in the presence of chemical reaction, which is acid/anion exchange reaction of succinic acid and tri-n-octylamine (TOA). This succinic acid extraction by TOA can be considered to occur at the interface between organic and aqueous phase, that is, heterogeneous reaction system. The basic properties of the system such as viscosity, density, distribution coefficient, terminal velocity of droplet, and diffusion coefficient were measured experimentally or calculated theoretically, and used for theoretical calculation of characteristic parameters of mass transfer later. The effects of succinic acid concentration on the terminal velocity was negligible in the existence of TOA, although the terminal velocity increases with succinic acid concentration in the absence of TOA. On the contrary, the terminal velocity decreases with TOA concentration. While droplets falls through organic phase, the trajectory of droplets is observed to oscillate around its vertical path. A mass trnasfer cell was prepared to monitor the mass transfer behavior in a single droplet and used to measure the mean concentration of succinic acid inside droplet. The results are expressed with dimensionless parameters. Under 50 g/L succinic acid condition, the system with 0.1 mol/kg TOA showed that the molar flux decreases in proportion to the decrease of concentration gradient, while in the case of 0.5 mol/kg TOA Sh increases rapidly with time indicating the molar flux of succinic acid decreases relatively slowly compared to the decrease in concentration gradient.
A third of primary energy is lost as a waste heat. To improve this inefficient use of energy, systems using chemical reaction have been suggested and studied. In this study, methanol decomposition/synthesis reaction as a chemical reaction was selected for long time heat storage and long distance heat transport system because of safe, cheap and gaseous product. The purpose of this study is to find the optimal conditions in the methanol decomposition and synthesis reactions for long distance heat transport. Several parameters such as reaction temperature, pressure, $H_2$/CO ratio, space velocity, catalyst particle size were tested to find the effects on the reaction rates for the methanol synthesis. And the reaction temperature, space velocity, catalyst particle size were tested to find the effects on the production concentration for the methanol decomposition.
Chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) is the polishing process enabled by both chemical and mechanical actions. CMP is used in the fabrication process of the integrated circuits to achieve adequate planarity necessary for stringent photolithography depth of focus requirements. And recently copper is preferred in the metallization process because of its low resistivity. We have studied the effects of chemical reaction on the polishing rate and surface planarity in copper CMP by means of numerical simulation solving Navier-Stokes equation and copper diffusion equation. We have performed pore-scale simulation and integrated the results over all the pores underneath the wafer surface to calculate the macroscopic material removal rate. The mechanical abrasion effect was not included in our study and we concentrated our focus on the transport phenomena occurring in a single pore. We have observed the effects of several parameters such as concentration of chemical additives, relative velocity of the wafer, slurry film thickness or ash)tract ratio of the pore on the copper removal rate and the surface planarity. We observed that when the chemical reaction was rate-limiting step, the results of simulation matched well with the experimental data.
An analysis procedure for the MCFC channel flow has been developed to predict the fuel cell performance. As for the electrochemical reaction, among several chemical reaction models, one that fits the data best is adopted after a comprehensive comparative study. The Wavier-Stokes, energy, and species equations are solved to obtain the velocity, temperature and concentration fields for a specified average current density. The procedure is iterative as the local current density, or the reaction rate, is allowed to vary with the gas composition. A series of calculations are then carried out to examine the effects of gas flow rate, gas composition, gas usage rate, inlet gas temperature, and average current density on the fuel cell performance. The fuel cell characteristics, such as the temperature, current density distributions, and the concentration fields, for various operating conditions are presented and discussed.
