  • To consider dynamic magnification effect at the static design stage, impact factor is applied to design load. Current impact factor adopted EUROCODE without domestic verification through theoretical and experimental studies. This study evaluated impact factor of railway bridges from dynamic response under KTX running. Moving Average Method was applied to calculate impact factor. Investigation considering different type of bridges and tracks including velocity was conducted.

  • Calculation was carried out for phase velocity and deformation wave decay in a layer of viscoelastic material fixed tightly on the solid substrate. Analysis has been performed regarding the inner structure of the wave, i.e., the proportions between the vertical and horizontal displacements and their profiles. The wave characteristics depend strongly on media compressibility factor. The effect of viscous losses on parameters of the main oscillation mode was studied in detail. Results were compared with the model of coating with local deformation. A new experimental approach was made in order to measure such wave properties of a compliant coating as the dependency of deformation wave velocity on frequency and decay factor was made. The method for estimation of coating parameters enabling the drag reduction in turbulent flow was then refined.

  • The objective of this study is to obtain detailed information for the micro fabrication of lead frames by applying spray technology to wet etching process. Wet etching experiments were performed with different etching parameters such as injection pressure, distance from nozzle tip to etched substrate, nozzle pitch and etchant temperature. The characteristics of single and twin spray were measured to investigate the correlation between the spray characteristics and the etching characteristics. Drop size and velocity were measured by Phase-Doppler Anemometer (PDA). Four liquids of different viscosity were used to reveal the effects of viscosity on the spray characteristics. The results indicated that the shorter the distance from nozzle tip and the nozzle pitch, the larger etching factor became. The average etching factor had good positive correlation with average axial velocity and impact force. It was found that the etching characteristics depended strongly on the spray characteristics.

  • The combined effects of radius ratio and roughness pitch ratio on the turbulent fluid flow characteristics of the fully developed flow in the annullar tubes with rib-roughened core walls were determined for Reynolds number ranging from 12,000 to 66,000. To understand the underlying physical phenomena responsible for friction factor enhancement, measurements of velocity profiles and zero shear stress and maximum velocity positions were combined to propose the friction factor correlation. Friction factors were found to be a function of the roughness pitch ratio and radius ratio.

  • A multi-polynomial method is proposed to synthesize DRRD cam profiles. A cam lift duration s divided into 10 sections, each of them is expressed by a polynomial equation. 12 design variables are extracted from the cam profile displacement, velocity, and acceleration curves. Because all the design variables have physical meanings which are familiar to most cam designers, it is easy to imagine a profile shape from the design variables. The design envelope of the method is wide enough to be used in DRRD automotive cam designs. Polydyne cams, widely used in automotive engines, are included into the envelope. Unlike Polydyne cams, the method provides capability of wide velocity factor variations, which gives much flexibility in flat-faced tappet design. Area factor of profiles designed by the method can be increased 5-10% compared to those of Polydyne cams without increasing acceleration factor. The method is especially useful for cam profile optimizations.

  • Due to the frequent gales and typhoons by anomaly climates and its subsequent loss of life and property, the importance of the research estimating wind load is being emphasized when structure is designed. It is necessary to measure geographical information exactly to estimate topographic factor of wind speed because the increase of topographic factor of wind speed means the increase of wind velocity and the increase of wind velocity has an influence on wind load proportionate to a square. Therefore, the accurate and reasonable estimation method of topographic factor of wind speed is presented in this study using ArchiCAD, an architectural BIM(Building Information Modeling) software. When the structure subjected to wind load is designed, reasonability and economic performance of design will be more improved by using the proposed method.

  • To evaluate the formulae for the stability of riprap, the formulae of Isbash, California division of highway, Netherlands, ASCE, Pilarczk, and Maynord are comparatively analysed with the experimental results. The critical velocity which initiates the motion of riprap is increased with the weight and the size in diameter and the riprap size with water depth, Froude number, shear velocity with mean velocity, Shields parameter have great correlation with them. The results by 6 formulae are overestimated in riprap size in diameter and the result by Maynord formula proposed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimates rather correct. The results by Isbash, Netherlands, and Pilarczk are overestimated in riprap weight but the result by California division of highway formula coincides with experimental result. In the experimental results of model riprap artificially made by gypsum with light weight density, the critical velocity is increased with shape factors. The critical velocity appears greater in regular arrangement of model riprap than in random arrangement of it. Therefore the shape factor and the degree of interlocking are an important parameters in riprap stability.

  • We applied a slope-stability analysis method, considering infiltration by rainfall, to the construction site where an express highway is being extended. Slope stability analysis that considers infiltration by rainfall can be classified into three methods: a method that considers the downward velocity of the wetting front, a method that considers the upward velocity of the groundwater level, and a method that considers both of these factors. The results of slope stability analysis using $Bishop^{\circ}{\Phi}s$ simplified method indicate that the safety factor due to the downward velocity of the wetting front decreases more rapidly than that due to the upward velocity of the groundwater level. For the third of the above methods, the safety factor decreases more rapidly than for the other two methods. Therefore, slope stability during rainfall should be analyzed with consideration of both the downward velocity of the wetting front and the upward velocity of the groundwater level.

  • In this study we propose an approach based on statistical method which use the whole of saccades instead of using a few points of saccades in the quantitative analyse saccades. We computed statistical parameters such as mean velocity, quadratic mean velocity, standard duration, skewness of saccades velocity, flattness factor of saccades velocity, and mean delay by considering eye velocity as a probability density function. The results abtained are the following as ; This parameters showed the same trend like that of the main sequence. They were not biased by the systematic errors due to the arbitrary threshold. They were also less sensitive to noise, which was tested through the model simulation. So they are expected to provide a more comprehensive quantitative description of the dynamic properties of saccade in the diagnostic field.

  • The most important factor of the traffic accident on the wet road is a tire slip caused by hydroplaning. Meanwhile, hydroplaning characteristics are influenced very greatly by the vehicle velocity, so it is very important to reveal the relation between hydroplaning and the vehicle velocity. Since the experiment study is considerably limited, recently the numerical simulation using finite element method(FEM) and finite volume method(FVM) is widely adopted. In this paper, the effect of the vehicle velocity on the hydroplaning characteristics is investigated through the hydroplaning analysis using MSC/Dytran.
