Concrete which is a composite material is one of the most important construction materials. Compressive strength is a commonly used parameter for the assessment of concrete quality. Accurate prediction of concrete compressive strength is an important issue. In this study, we utilized an experimental procedure for the assessment of concrete quality. Firstly, the concrete mix was prepared according to C 20 type concrete, and slump of fresh concrete was about 20 cm. After the placement of fresh concrete to formworks, compaction was achieved using a vibrating screed. After 28 day period, a total of 100 core samples having 75 mm diameter were extracted. On the core samples pulse velocity determination tests and compressive strength tests were performed. Besides, Windsor probe penetration tests and Schmidt hammer tests were also performed. After setting up the data set, twelve artificial intelligence (AI) models compared for predicting the concrete compressive strength. These models can be divided into three categories (i) Functions (i.e., Linear Regression, Simple Linear Regression, Multilayer Perceptron, Support Vector Regression), (ii) Lazy-Learning Algorithms (i.e., IBk Linear NN Search, KStar, Locally Weighted Learning) (iii) Tree-Based Learning Algorithms (i.e., Decision Stump, Model Trees Regression, Random Forest, Random Tree, Reduced Error Pruning Tree). Four evaluation processes, four validation implements (i.e., 10-fold cross validation, 5-fold cross validation, 10% split sample validation & 20% split sample validation) are used to examine the performance of predictive models. This study shows that machine learning regression techniques are promising tools for predicting compressive strength of concrete.

In this paper, we describe a security robot system to control human's behavior in the security area. In order to achieve these goals, we present a method for representing, tracking and human blocking by laserscanner systems in security area, with application to pedestrian tracking in a crowd. When it detects walking human who is for the security area, robot calculates his velocity vector, plans own path to forestall and interrupts him who want to head restricted area and starts to move along the estimated trajectory. While moving the robot continues these processes for adapting change of situation. After arriving at an opposite position human's walking direction, the robot advises him not to be headed more and change his course. The experimental results of estimating and tracking of the human in the wrong direction with the mobile robot are presented.
In mathematics education, teaching-learning activity can be divided largely into the understanding the mathematical concepts, derivation of principles and laws acquirement of the mathematical abilities. We utilize various media, teaching tools, audio-visual materials, manufacturing materials for understanding mathematical concepts. But sometimes we cannot define or explain correctly the concepts as well as the derivation of principles and laws by these materials. In order to solve the problem we can use the computer. In this paper, ′the process of the length of curve being equal to the sum of the vectors when intervals get smaller′ and ′the process of calculating volume of spinning curve by using definite integral.′ Using the computers is more visible than other educational instruments like blackboards, O.H.Ps., etc. Also it can help students with solving mathematical problems intuitively. Consequently more effective teaching-learning activity can be done. Usage of computers is the best method for improving the mathematical abilities because computers have functions of the immediate reaction, operation, reference and deduction. One of the important characters of mathematics is accuracy, so we use computers for improving mathematical abilities. This paper is about the program focused on the part of "the application of definite integral", which exists in mathematical curriculum the second and third grade of high school. When this study is used for students as assisting materials, it is expected the following educational effect. 1. Students will have precise concepts because they can understand what they learn intuitively. 2. Students will have positive thought by arousing interests of learning because this program is composed of pictures, animations with effectiveness of sound. 3. It is possible to change the teacher-centered instruction into the student-centered instruction. 4. Students will understand the relation between velocity and distance correctly because they can see the process of getting the length of curve by vector through the monitor. For the purpose of increasing the efficiencies and qualities of mathematics education, we have to seek the various learning-teaching methods. But considering that no computer can replace the teacher′s role, teachers have to use the CIA program carefully.

In a grid connected variable speed wind turbine, the PCC voltage and the wind power fluctuate as the wind velocity changed. And this voltage variation is changed due to location of PCC. This paper calculate the value of PCC voltage variation which is proportional to the product of the line impedance from the ideal generator to the PCC and the wind turbine output current. And to reduce this PCC voltage variation, this paper calculate the required reactive power analytically using the vector diagram method. Output reactive current is changed, if the reactive current is limited by inverter capacity or grid code have the margin of voltage variation. If the grid connected inverter is controlled by proposed algorithm, the PCC voltage variation is minimized though the wind turbine output change at random. To verify calculated voltage variation and required reactive power, this paper utilized Matlab and PSCAD/EMTDC simulation and real small wind turbine and power system in Sapsido, island in the Yellow Sea.
This study investigates a design optimization of a rotating two-pass rectangular cooling channel with staggered arrays of pin-fins. The radial basis neural network method is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer with shear stress transport turbulent model. The ratio of the diameter to height of the pin-fins and the ratio of the streamwise spacing between the pin-fins to height of the pin-fin are selected as design variables. The optimization problem has been defined as a minimization of the objective function, which is defined as a linear combination of heat transfer related term and friction loss related term with a weighting factor. Results are presented for streamlines, velocity vector fields, and contours of Nusselt numbers, friction coefficients, and turbulent kinetic energy. These results show how fluid flow in a two-pass square cooling channel evolves a converted secondary flows due to Coriolis force, staggered arrays of pin-fins, and a $180^{\circ}$ turn region. These results describe how the fluid flow affects surface heat transfer. The Coriolis force induces heat transfer discrepancy between leading and trailing surfaces, having higher Nusselt number on the leading surface in the second pass while having lower Nusselt number on the trailing surface. Dean vortices generated in $180^{\circ}$ turn region augment heat transfer in the turning region and in the upstream region of the second pass. As the result of optimization, in comparison with the reference geometry, thermal performance of the optimum geometry shows the improvement by 30.5%. Through the optimization, the diameter of pin-fin increased by 14.9% and the streamwise distance between pin-fins increased by 32.1%. And, the value of objective function decreased by 18.1%.

The blasting has a lot of economic efficiency and speediness but it can damage to a neighbor structure, a domestic animal and a cultured fish due to the blasting vibration, then the public grievance is increased. Therefore, we need to manage the blasting vibration efficiently. The prediction of the correct vibration velocity is not easy because there are lots of different kinds of the scale of blasting vibration and it has a number of a variable effect. So we figure the optimum line through the least-squares regression by using the vibration data measured in hard rock blasting and compared with the design vibration prediction equation. As a result, we confirm that the vibration estimated in this paper is bigger than the design vibration prediction equation in the same charge and distance. If there is a Gaussian normal distribution data on the left-right side of the least squares regression, then we can estimate the vibration prediction equation on reliability 50%(${\beta}=0$), 90%(${\beta}=1.28$), 95%(${\beta}=1.64$). 99.9%(${\beta}=3.09$). As a result, it appears to be suitable that the reliability is 99% at the transverse component, the reliability 95% is at the vertical component, the reliability 90% is at the longitudinal component and the reliability is 95% at the peak vector sum component.

The elliptic conceptual second moment models for turbulent heat fluxes, which are proposed on the basis of elliptic-blending and elliptic-relaxation equations, are applied to calculate the combined forced and natural turbulent convection in a vertical plane channel. The models satisfy the near-wall balance between viscous diffusion, viscous dissipation and temperature-pressure gradient correlation, and also have the characteristics of approaching its respective conventional high Reynolds number model far away from the wall. Also the models are closely linked to the elliptic blending model which is used for the prediction of Reynolds stress. In order to calibrate the heat flux models, firstly, the distributions of mean temperature and scala flux in fully developed channel flow with constant wall difference temperature are solved by the present models. The buoyancy effect on the turbulent characteristics including the mean velocity and temperature, the Reynolds stress tensor, and the turbulent heat flux vector are examined. In the opposing flow, the turbulent transport is greatly enhanced with both the Reynolds stresses and the turbulent heat fluxes being remarkably increased; whereas, in the aiding flow, the opposite change is observed. The results of prediction are directly compared to the DNS to assess the performance of the model predictions and show that the behaviors of the turbulent heat transfer in the whole flow region are well captured by the present models.

This study presents the kinematics of an intrinsic continuum robot actuated by pneumatic artificial muscles. The single section of a developed continuum robot consisted of three muscles in parallel. The contraction of each muscle according to applied air pressure produced spatial motions of a distal plate with respect to a base plate. Based on the bending behaviors of artificial muscles, the orientation and position of the end-effector of a continuum robot were formulated using a transformation matrix. The orientation and position was also determined for a single section of the distal plate. A Jacobian matrix relating the contraction rate or the pressure rate of the muscles to the velocity vector of the end-effector was calculated considering the assembled position of actuators between neighboring sections of the robot. Experimental results showed that the motions of the intrinsic continuum robot were accurately estimated by the proposed kinematics.

Subgrid scale stabilization method is applied to Woo and Liu(2004)'s extended Boussinesq FEM numerical model to eliminate the 2dx wiggles. In order to optimize the computational efficiency, Hessian operator is introduced and the matrix of velocity vector is combined to one matrix for solving matrix equations. The mass lumping technique is also applied to the matrix equations of auxiliary variables. The newly developed code is applied to simulate Vincent and Briggs(1989)' wave transformation experiments and the results show that the numerical solution is almost wiggle-free and it matches very well with experimental data. Due to improvement of computational efficiency and wiggle reduction, it is plausible to apply this model to a realistic problem such as harbor oscillation problems.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of gait speed and walkway slope on the body acceleration, for the future validation of using an accelerometer in the estimation of energy consumption. Ten young healthy subjects with accelerometers on the upper thigh and ankle walked on a treadmill at 9 conditions(three speeds ${\times}$ three slopes) for 5 minutes. Acceleration signals of four directions, i.e. anterior-posterior(AP), medio-lateral(ML), superior-inferior(SI) and vector sum(VS) directions, of each sensor were measured, and root means squared(RMS) values of them were used as analysis variables. As statistical analysis, repeated measure two-way ANOVA was performed for RMS accelerations at each attachment sites, with slope and velocity as independent factors. At both the upper thigh and ankle, RMS acceleration of all directions were affected by gait velocities(p<.001) showing greater accelerations for higher velocities. Contrary to expectations, no slope effect existed in RMS accelerations at hip. Moreover, RMS acceleraion at ankle decreased with slope in SI and VS directions(p<.01). These results suggests that RMS acceleration cannot reflect the change in physical activity due to the change in walkway slope.
