Elastic wave is one of the most useful tools for non-destructive tests in nuclear power plants. Since the elastic properties are indispensable for analyzing the behaviors of elastic waves, they should be predetermined within an acceptable accuracy. Nuclear power plants are exposed to harsh environmental conditions and hence the structures are degraded. It means that the Young's modulus becomes unreliable and in-situ measurement of Young's modulus is required from an engineering point of view. Young's modulus is estimated from the group velocity of propagating waves. Because the flexural wave of a plate is inherently dispersive, the group velocity is not clearly evaluated in temporal signal analysis. In order to overcome such ambiguity in estimation of group velocity, Wigner-Ville distribution as the time-frequency analysis technique was proposed and utilized. To verify the proposed method, experiments for steel and acryl plates were performed with accelerometers. The results show good estimation of the Young's modulus of two plates.

This paper presents a technology of information data fusion between radar and ELINT electronic intelligence system. adar get the information of the range, direction and velocity of targets, and ELINT system get the information of the direction and angular velocity of the same targets at the same place and at the same time. Since we have some common information data of targets from radar and ELINT system, we can find the target on radar is same or not on ELINT system using the information data fusions. If the target on the radar is verified with the same target on ELINT system, we get more information of the target. e can analysis and identify the target exactly and reduce an ambiguity error of unknown targets.
A numerical analysis has been performed on the two-dimensional rectangular gallium melting problem using the enthalpy method. The major advantage of this method is that the physical domain is discretized with fixed grids without transforming variables and the interface conditions of phase change are accounted for the definition of suitable source terms in the governing equations. But in the fixed method, there is some ambiguity in defining the porosity constant which has no physical interpretation. If the velocity correction is included in the momentum equation, for the appropriate range of porosity constant, the realistic predictions are obtained. The object of the present work is to predict the phase change within the molten steel with thin riser slab using the modified enthalpy-porosity method. The computational procedures for predicting velocity and temperature are based on the finite volume method and the non-staggered grid system. The influence of natural convection on the melting process is considered. A comparison with the experimental results shows that the modified method is better than the previous one.

In this paper, we propose a new method that sequentially estimates TDOA(Time Delay Of Arrival) and FDOA(Frequency Delay Of Arrival) for extracting the information about the bearing and relative velocity of a target in passive radar or sonar arrays. The objective is to efficiently estimate the TDOA and FDOA between two sensor signal measurements, corrupted by correlated Gaussian noise sources in an unknown way. The proposed method utilizes the one dimensional slice function of the third order cumulants between the two sensor measurements, by which the effect of correlated Gaussian measurement noises can be significantly suppressed for the estimation of TDOA. Because the proposed sequential algoritjhm uses the one dimensional complex ambiguity function based on the TDOA estimate from the first step, the amount of computations needed for accurate estimationof FDOA can be dramatically reduced, especially for the cases where high frequency resolution is required. It is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing TDOA/FDOA estimation algorithms based on the ML(maximum likelihood) criterionandthe complex ambiguity function of the third order cumulant as well, in the MSE(mean squared error) sense and computational burden. Various numerical resutls on the detection probability, MSE and the floatingpoint computational burden are presented via Monte-Carlo simulations for different types of noises, different lengths of data, and different signal-to-noise ratios.

Although commercial PIV systems have been widely used for the non-intrusive velocity field measurement of fluid flows, they are still under development and have considerable room for improvement. In this study, a single-frame double-exposure PIV system using a high-resolution CCD camera was developed. A pulsed Nd:Yag laser and high-resolution CCD camera were synchronized by a home-made control circuit. In order to resolve the directional ambiguity problem encountered in the single-frame PIV technique, the second particle image was genuinely shifted in the CCD sensor array during the time interval dt. The velocity vector field was determined by calculating the displacement vector at each interrogation window using cross-correlation with 50% overlapping. In order to check the effect of spatial resolution of CCD camera on the accuracy of PIV velocity field measurement, the developed PIV system with three different resolution modes of the CCD camera (512 ${\times}$ 512, lK ${\times}$ IK, 2K ${\times}$ 2K) was applied to a turbulent flow which simulate the Zn plating process of a steel strip. The experimental model consists of a snout and a moving belt. Aluminum flakes about $1{\mu}m$ diameter were used as scattering particles for the liquid flow in the zinc pot and the gas flow above the zinc surface was seeded with atomized olive oil with an average diameter of 1-$3{\mu}m$. Velocity field measurements were carried out at the strip speed $V_s$=1.0 m/s. The 2K ${\times}$ 2K high-resolution PIV technique was significantly superior compared to the smaller pixel resolution PIV system. For the cases of 512 ${\times}$ 512 and 1K ${\times}$ 1K pixel resolution PIV system, it was difficult to get accurate flow structure of viscous flow near the wall and small vortex structure in the region of large velocity gradient.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) identifies a specific object by radio signals. As the tag provides a unique ID for the purpose of identification, RFID technology effectively solves the ambiguity and occlusion problem that challenges the laser or camera-based approach. This paper proposes an approach to track a moving object based on the integration of RFID and laser ranging information using a particle filter. To be precise, we split laser scan points into different clusters which contain the potential moving objects and calculate the radial velocity of each cluster. The velocity information is compared with the radial velocity estimated from RFID phase difference. In order to achieve the positioning of the moving object, we select a number of K best matching clusters to update the weights of the particle filter. To further improve the positioning accuracy, we incorporate RFID signal strength information into the particle filter using a pre-trained sensor model. The proposed approach is tested on a SCITOS service robot under different types of tags and various human velocities. The results show that fusion of signal strength and laser ranging information has significantly increased the positioning accuracy when compared to radial velocity matching-based or signal strength-based approaches. The proposed approach provides a solution for human machine interaction and object tracking, which has potential applications in many fields for example supermarkets, libraries, shopping malls, and exhibitions.
High levels of ambient noise and safety factors often limit the use of 'active-source' seismic methods for geotechnical investigations in urban environments. As an alternative, shear-wave velocity-depth profiles can be obtained by treating the background microtremor wave field as a stochastic process, rather than adopting the traditional approach of calculating velocity based on ray path geometry from a known source. A recent field test in Melbourne demonstrates the ability of the microtremor method, using only Rayleigh waves, to resolve a velocity inversion resulting from the presence of a hard, 12 m thick basalt flow overlying 25 m of softer alluvial sediments and weathered mudstone. Normally the presence of the weaker underlying sediments would lead to an ambiguous or incorrect interpretation with conventional seismic refraction methods. However, this layer of sediments is resolved by the microtremor method, and its inclusion is required in one-dimensional layered-earth modelling in order to reproduce the Rayleigh-wave coherency spectra computed from observed seismic noise records. Nearby borehole data provided both a guide for interpretation and a confirmation of the usefulness of the passive Rayleigh-wave microtremor method. Sensitivity analyses of resolvable modelling parameters demonstrate that estimates of shear velocities and layer thicknesses are accurate to within approximately $10\%\;to\;20\%$ using the spatial autocorrelation (SPAC) technique. Improved accuracy can be obtained by constraining shear velocities and/or layer thicknesses using independent site knowledge. Although there exists potential for ambiguity due to velocity-thickness equivalence, the microtremor method has significant potential as a site investigation tool in situations where the use of traditional seismic methods is limited.
The use of ultrasound pulsed Doppler systems has become increasingly popular due to the advantages of easy measurements of blood velocity, volume blood blow, and irregularities of the circulatory system. However, the 2-D Doppler systems have several problems, such as range ambiguity, low signal to noise ratio, and slow frame rate. The mean frequency aliasing problem originating from the pulse repetition frequency is one of major limitations in pulsed Doppler systems. A conventional approach to resolve this problem is tracking the mean frequency close to and beyond the Nyquist frequency along the temporal axis. In this paper, a new concept of tracking the mean frequency along the spatial axis is proposed. The proposed technique is fault tolerant by nature and more suitable for multi gate and 2-D Doppler system than conventional methods.
Ultrasonic Doppler systems for the purpose of estimating blood flow velocity, blood flow volume, and flow imaging are commonly used due to advantages of non-invasive and real time observation. Specially, the technical developments of color flow mapping (2-D Doppler) systems have made a relatively rapid progress. However, the 2-D Doppler systems have several problems, such as the range ambiguity, low signal to noise ratio, and slow frame rate. The slow frame rate problem is resolved by using the spatial average which is a method to acquire more data samples for mean frequency estimation. In this paper, spatial average method using the 2nd order sampling instead of quadrature sampling is proposed. The experimental results show that the proposed methods have good performance and easy application to the color flow mapping system.
