  • There are several high technologies applied to the driving cars such as self-driving car and connected car for safe and convenient driving. VANET provides useful information such as route selection and gas price by communicating nearby cars and RSUs. VANET prefers CCN rather than traditional TCP/IP stack because CCN offers inherent multicast communication for sharing traffic information as well as traditional unicast. When all participating node rebroadcasts the Interest packets in a Vehicular CCN, the network may suffer from Broadcast Storm Problem. In order to mitigate the effect of the problem and to improve the Data packet transmission, not all but some selected nodes have to rebroadcast the packet. This paper simulates car movements using SUMO and evaluates data transmission performance using ns-3. According to the simulation results, when some selected nodes rebroadcast the Interest packets, the transmission performance improves 10% to 25% depending on the number of requesting nodes.

  • Vehicular Ad Hoc Network(VANET) using wireless network is offering the communications between vehicle and vehicle(V2V) or vehicle and infrastructure(V2I). VANET is being actively researched from industry field and university because of the rapid developments of the industry and vehicular automation. Information, collected from VANET, of velocity, acceleration, condition of road and environments provides various services related with safe drive to the drivers, so security over network is the inevitable factor. For the secure message authentication, a number of authentication proposals have been proposed. Among of them, a scheme, proposed by Jung, applying database search algorithm, Bloom filter, to RAISE scheme, is efficient authentication algorithm in a dense space. However, k-anonymity used for obtaining the accurate vehicular identification in the paper has a weak point. Whenever requesting the righteous identification, all hash value of messages are calculated. For this reason, as the number of car increases, a amount of hash operation increases exponentially. Moreover the paper does not provide a complete key exchange algorithm while the hand-over operation. In this paper, we use a Received Signal Strength Indicator(RSSI) based velocity and distance estimation algorithm to localize the identification and provide the secure and efficient algorithm in which the problem of hand-over algorithm is corrected.

  • Inter-vehicular communication suffers from a variety of the problem on the road, resulting in large delay in propagating emergency warning. An energy depletion as well as a transmission delay may induced by traffic accident. A transmission delay are caused by direct contention from nodes that can hear each other or indirect contention from nodes that can not hear each other, but simultaneously transmit to the same destination. A variety of works have been researched to solve the transmission delay and energy consumption problem in intelligent cars transportation systems. We consider a vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol for disseminating an emergency information that include end-to-end and energy efficient transmission. In this paper, we propose A vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol scheme for dissemination emergency information in intelligent cars communication based on IEEE 802.15.3 wireless personal area networks. Results from a simulation study reveal that our scheme can achieves low latency in delivering emergency warnings, and efficiency in consuming energy in stressful road scenarios.

  • FlexRay is an in-vehicle network with maximum two channels and maximum transmission speed of 10Mbps per channel. FlexRay exploits TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) and FTDMA (Flexible Time division Multiple Access) to ensure real-time communication with efficient transmission, so it is used for real-time electronic control of safety-critical vehicular modules such as powertrain. This paper explains FlexRay protocol, time hierarchy, message frame, communication controller, and conformance test in detail based on ISO 17458 standard and FlexRay consortium documents.

  • Ships at sea cannot exchange data among them easily so far. Basically voice-oriented communication systems are the main methods, some of them utilize the HF radio systems at lower bit rates, and for higher bit rates, the Inmarsat or VSAT are adopted. None of them are used widely because of lower qualities and higher costs. There exist many technical and economical limits to have the Internet service just like on land such as the WWW service. In order to achieve the improved transmission rates of the maritime communication networks at farther sea, MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network) is one of the most practical models. In this paper, a new routing protocol named EZR (Expansive Search Zone Routing Protocol) is proposed, which is based on SANET (Ship Ad Hoc Network) model that has some different features from MANET and VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc Network). The search zone for the shortest path is firstly found by EZR. If no path is searched in the zone, the zone is expanded according to the rule of EZR. The zone-expanding and path-searching procedures are repeated until the path is found out. The performance of EZR is evaluated and compared with LAR protocol which is one of the most typical routing protocols based on geographical information. The simulated results show that EZR is much better than LAR at sea environments in terms of routing success rate, route optimality, and a single index of performance combined the previous two metrics.

  • In indoor radio systems, vehicular communication systems, and land mobile systems, a very important problem is that of maintaing stable communications at all locations. Therefore solutions for the indoor propagation problem are an important aspects of the mobile communication system. Leaky coaxial cables finding increasing use in communications systems involving mines, tunnels, railroads, and highways, and in new obstacle detection, or guided radar, schemes for ground transpor- tation and perimeter surveilance. In this paper a leaky coaxial cable having periodic slots in the outer conductor is described to obtain the propagation modes in the various environments. We use an essentric cylindrical model to develop the theory for surface-wave propagation on the cable. Numerical Results are also included for the propagation constants, field distribution and impedance as functions of various parameters. First, we derive the electromagnetic equation for leaky coaxial cable having periodic slots using mode-matching method and Floguet's theorem, and then find various modes, propagation constants, field distribution, etc.

  • Recently interest in Internet of Things(IoT) has attracted significant attention at national level. IoT can create new services as a technology to exchange data through connections among a huge number of objects around the user. Data communication between objects provides not only information collected in the surrounding environment but also various personalized information. IoT services which provide these various types of data are exposed to numerous security vulnerabilities. If data is maliciously collected and used by an attacker in an IoT environment that deals with various data, security threats are greater than those in existing network environments. Therefore, security of all data exchanged in the IoT environment is essential. However, lightweight terminal devices used in the IoT environment are not suitable for applying the existing encryption algorithm. In addition, IoT networks consisting of many sensors require group communication. Therefore, this paper proposes a secure multicast scheme using the proxy re-encryption method based on Vehicular ad-hoc networks(VANET) environment. The proposed method is suitable for a large-scale dynamic IoT network environment using unreliable servers.

  • A typical standard of vehicular ad hoc networks, WAVE which consists of IEEE 1609.x Family standards and IEEE 802.11p standard, includes the multi-channel coordination and channel synchronization function to provide safety services or public services during a car is driven. Generally, the performance of data communication and networking technologies is evaluated by using simulation tools, such as ns-2, OPNET, OPNET++, etc. However, these tools doesn't provide the operations of WAVE protocol. Therefore, in this paper, we implement and verify WAVE simulation program based on ns-2.

  • WAVE based on OFDM is made for vehicle to vehicle wireless communication. Its performance is decreased by continual timing delay in multipath fading channels after starting initial timing synchronization. In this paper, the tracking algorithm that synchronizes symbol timing is proposed to continually compensate additional timing delay. Computer simulation of the proposed algorithm is performed in the worst communication environment that applies to maximum timing delay. Computer simulation shows that the proposed algorithm can improve the system performance in various channel conditions.

  • It is a concern that eco-driving vehicles, because their driving behavior differs from other vehicles due to e.g. e-start, may inhibit smooth traffic flow. Therefore, it is necessary to study the cooperative eco-driving done by a vehicle group, putting "vehicle-to-vehicle communication" and "road-to-vehicle communication" into perspective. Based on these factors, this study aimed to: 1) Analyze fuel consumption rates and driving behaviors of more than one vehicle following an Eco-Driving vehicle. 2) Examine the effect of information on the fuel consumption rate of the preceding vehicles on the following vehicles. As a result, the following findings were obtained: 1) By providing information to multiple following vehicles, the fuel consumption rate of the second vehicle was not lowered, while that of the third one was. 2) It is possible that, when information on fuel consumption of a preceding vehicle is provided to the following one, an inter-vehicular distance is shortened during deceleration to contribute to smooth traffic flow. From the above results, it is suggested that, when targeting a vehicle group, sharing the information on preceding vehicles is effective.
