MODELING AND PI CONTROL OF DIESEL APU FOR SERIES HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLES

  • The diesel Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for vehicle applications is a complex nonlinear system. For the purpose of this paper presents a dynamic average model of the whole system in an entirely physical way, which accounts for the non-ideal behavior of the diode rectifier, the nonlinear phenomena of generator-rectifier set in an elegant way, and also the dynamics of the dc load and diesel engine. Simulation results show the accuracy of the model. Based on the average model, a simple PI control scheme is proposed for the multivariable system, which includes the steps of model linearization, separate PI controller design with robust tuning rules, stability verification of the overall system by considering it as an uncertain one. Finally it is tested on a detailed switching model and good performances are shown for both set-point following and disturbance rejection.

Performance evaluation of steel and composite bridge safety barriers by vehicle crash simulation

  • The performance of full-scale steel and composite bridge safety barriers under vehicle crash is evaluated by using the nonlinear explicit finite element code LS-DYNA. Two types of vehicles used in this study are passenger car and truck, and the performance criteria considered include structural strength and deformation, occupant protection, and post-crash vehicle behavior. It can be concluded that the composite safety barrier satisfies all performance criteria of vehicle crash. Although the steel safety barrier satisfies the performance criteria of occupant protection and post-crash vehicle behavior, it fails to satisfy the performance criterion of deformation. In all performance evaluations, the composite safety barrier exhibits a superior performance in comparing with the steel safety barrier.

  • 최근 전 세계가 환경문제와 에너지 자원 고갈 문제에 대해 관심을 집중하고 있다. 이런 문제들을 해결하기 위한 여러 가지 방법들 중 하나가 하이브리드자동차(HEVs)이다. 그래서 하이브리드자동차 기술에 대한 사람들의 관심이 높아지고 있다. 하이브리드 자동차의 에너지 저장 시스템의 후보들은 AGM 배터리, Ni-MH 배터리 및 리튬배터리 등이다. AGM 배터리는 상대적으로 낮은 가격, 높은 충전 효율, 낮은 자가 방전 및 높은 안전성 등이 장점이다. 상용자동차에 하이브리드 자동차 시스템을 적용하기 위해서는 4개의 AGM 배터리를 2개의 직렬과 2개의 병렬로 연결해야한다. 본 연구에서는 상용차용으로 사용될 직 병렬로 연결되어 있는 AGM 배터리 시스템의 충 방전 특성을 예측하기 위하여 AGM 배터리의 충 방전 모델링을 수행하였다. AGM 배터리의 충 방전 모델링을 위해 내부에서 일어나는 전기화학 반응, 전하 보전과 물질 보존 법칙을 통해 배터리의 지배방정식으로 세웠다. 모델링 결과의 정확성을 검증하기 위해 다양한 조건에서의 실험결과와 비교하였다.

Study for improvement of grounds subjected to cyclic loads

  • Due to rapid industrialisation, large scale infrastructure development is taking place worldwide. This includes railways, high speed highways, elevated roads etc. To meet the demands of society and industry, many innovative techniques and materials are being developed. In developed nations like USA, Japan etc. for railways applications, new material like geocells, geogrids are being used successfully to enable fast movement of vehicles. The present research work was aimed to develop design methodologies for improvement of grounds subjected to cyclic loads caused by moving vehicles on roads, rail tracks etc. Deformation behavior of ballast under static and cyclic load tests was studied based on square footing test. The paper presents a study of the effect of geo-synthetic reinforcement on the (cumulative) plastic settlement, of point loaded square footing on a thick layer of granular base overlying different compressible bases. The research findings showed that inclusion of geo-synthetics significantly improves the performance of ballasted tracks and reduces the foundation area. If the area is kept same, higher speed trains can be allowed to pass through the same track with insertion of geosynthetics. Similarly, area of machine foundation may also be reduced where geosynthetics is provided in foundation. The model tests results have been validated by numerical modeling, using $FLAC^{3D}$.

OneSAF를 이용한 원격조종 지상무인차량 체계효과분석 방법 (A Method of System Effectiveness Analysis for Remote-Operated Unmanned Ground Vehicles Using OneSAF)

  • Nowadays unmanned ground systems are used in supporting of surveillance and explosive ordnance disposal. Also, we expect that will be used to remarkably enhance combat capability through network-based cooperative operations with other combat systems. In order to effectively develop those unmanned systems, we needs a systematic method to analyze combat effectiveness and validate required operation capabilities. In this paper, we propose a practical approach to simulate remote-operated unmanned ground systems by using OneSAF, an US-Army simulation framework. First of all, we design a simulation model of unmanned system by integrating with core components for wireless communications and remote control of mobility and fire. Next, we extend OneSAF functionality to create communication links that connects a remote controller with an unmanned vehicle and define a simulated behavior to operate unmanned vehicles via the communication links. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model within OneSAF and summarize system effectiveness analysis results.

  • Given that lithium-ion batteries are expected to be used as power sources for electric and hybrid vehicles, thermodynamics experimentation and prediction based on experimental data were performed. Thermal, electrochemical, and electrochemical/electrical-thermal models were used for accurate battery modeling. Various applications of different battery packs were demonstrated, and thermal analysis was performed using the same experimental conditions for square and rectangular battery packs. Accurate thermal analysis for a single cell should be prioritized to determine the thermal behavior of the battery pack. The energy balance equation, which contains heat generation and heat transfer factors, defines the thermal behavior of the battery pack. By comparing battery packs of different shapes tested under the same condition, this study revealed that the rectangular battery pack is superior to the square battery pack in terms of the maximum temperature of inner cells and temperature variation between cells.

횡방향 거동 특성을 고려한 부하모사 시스템 해석 (Analysis of Load Simulating System Considering Lateral Behavior of a Vehicle)

  • 자동차의 과도한 차체 운동과 조종 불안정성을 유발하는 대표적인 외란 입력으로는 운전자에 의해 가해지는 조향 핸들 조작이다. 급격하고 과도한 핸들 조작은 SUV 차량처럼 기하학적 및 동역학적 특성에 따라 차량 전복 현상도 발생시킬 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 이에 대응할 수 있는 제어 시스템의 구조화에 대하여 다음과 같이 기초 연구를 수행하였다. 운전자 조종으로 유발되는 횡방향 거동에 대한 수학적 모델링을 수행하고, 이를 토대로 차체 운동을 제어할 수 있는 제어기를 설계하였다. 파라미터 불확실성으로 인한 모델링 오차에 대해 강건한 제어 성능을 확보하기 위하여 $H_{\infty}$ 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 비 연성화된 1/4 차량을 기반으로, 차체에 작용하는 모우멘트에 상응하는 동적 부하를 모사할 수 있는 모델을 제시하였다. 동적 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 부하 모사 모델의 타당성을 파악하였다. 차체- 차축- 서스펜션- 타이어로 조합되는 1/4 실험 차량 장치와 부하 모사 모듈, 서스펜션 제어 모듈 및 Hils 기술을 적용하는 차체 거동 제어 시스템에 대한 프레임워크를 제안하였다.

스크립트 임베딩을 활용한 수중운동체 M&S 전술처리기의 기능 확장 (The Functional Extension of the Underwater Vehicle Modeling and Simulation Tactics Manager using the Script Embedding Method)

  • In the simulation of underwater vehicles such as a submarine or a torpedo, various type of simulations like an engineering level simulation for predicting the performance precisely and an engagement level simulation for examining the effectiveness of a certain tactic is required. For this reason, a tactics manager which can change the behavior of a simulation model according to external tactics is needed. In this study the tactics manager supporting a script language and engine which can represent various tactics and can help users define external input tactics for the tactic manager easily is suggested. Python and Lua which are representative among script languages have been compared and analyzed from the viewpoint of a tactic manage, and the tactic manger using the script engines of those script languages was implemented. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the tactic manager, a target motion analysis simulation of the warfare between a submarine and a surface ship.

RESEARCH ON MODULARIZED DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT BASED ON MULTI-DRIVER OFF-ROAD VEHICLE DRIVING-LINE

  • The multi-driver off-road vehicle drive-line consists of many components, with close connections among them. In order to design and analyze the drive-line efficiently, a modular methodology should be taken. The aim of a modular approach to the modeling of complex systems is to support behavior analysis and simulation in an iterative and thus complex engineering process, by using encapsulated submodels of components and of their interfaces. Multi-driver off-road vehicles are comparatively complicated. The driving-line is an important core part to the vehicle, it has a significant contribution to the performance. Multi-driver off-road vehicles have complex driving-lines, so performance is heavily dependent on the driving-line. A typical off-road vehicle's driving-line system consists of a torque converter, transmission, transfer case and driving-axles, which transfers the power generated by the engine and distributes it effectively to the driving wheels according to the road condition. According to its main function, this paper proposes a modularized approach for design and evaluation of the vehicle's driving-line. It can be used to effectively estimate the performance of the driving-line during the concept design stage. Through an appropriate analysis and assessment method, an optimal design can be reached. This method has been applied to practical vehicle design, it can improve the design efficiency and is convenient to assess and validate the performance of a vehicle, especially of multi-driver off-road vehicles.

극초음속 유동의 열전달 예측에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (Computational Study on the Heat Transfer Prediction Hypersonic Flows)

  • In recent years, scientific community has found renewed interest in hypersonic flight research. These hypersonic vehicles undergo severe aero-thermal environments during their flight regimes. One of the most important topics of research in hypersonic aerodynamics is to find a reasonable way of calculating either the surface temperature or the heat flux to surface when its temperature is held fixed. This requires modeling of physical and chemical processes. Hyperbolic system of equations with stiff relaxation method are being identified in recent literature as a novel method of predicting long time behavior of systems such as gas at high temperatures. In present work, Energy Relaxation Method (ERM) has been considered to simulate the real gas flow over a 2-D cylinder. Present heat flux results over the cylinder compared well with the experiment. Thus, real gas effects in hypersonic flows can be modeled through energy relaxation method.
