This paper presents an optimal performance of rear wheel steering vehicle for maneuverability. The maneuverability of vehicle is evaluated in terms of yaw rate, body slip angle and driver input. The maneuverability of vehicle can be improved by rear wheel steering system. To obtain optimal performance of rear wheel steering vehicle, the optimal control history is designed. The high dimensional trajectory optimization problem is solved by formulating a quadratic program considering rear wheel steer input. To evaluate handling performance 7 degree-of-freedom vehicle model with actuation sub-models is designed. A step steer test is conducted to evaluate rear wheel steering vehicle. A response time, a TB factor, overshoot, and yaw rate gain are investigated through objective criteria, assessment webs. The handling performance of vehicle is evaluated via computer simulations. It has been shown from simulation studies that optimal controlled rear wheel steering vehicle provides improved performance compared to others.
This paper describes the development of a target vehicle state estimation algorithm using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. Perceiving the state of the target vehicle has great importance for successful autonomous driving and has been studied using various sensors and methods for many years. V2V communication has advantage of not being constrained by surrounding circumstances relative to other sensors. In this paper, we adopt the V2V signal for estimating the target vehicle state. Since applying only the V2V signal is improper by its low frequency and latency, the signal is used as additional measured data to improve the estimation accuracy. We estimate the target vehicle state using Extended Kalman filter (EKF); a point mass model was utilized in process update to predict the state of next step. The process update is followed by measurement update when ego vehicle receives V2V information. The proposed study evaluated state estimation by comparing input V2V information in an experiment where the ego vehicle follows the target vehicle behind it.

The limited number of roads and the increasing number of vehicles demand the automatic regulation of overspeed vehicles, illegal vehicles, and overloaded vehicles and the automatic charge calculation depending on the type of the vehicle. To meet such requirements, it is important to remove the shadow of the vehicle as processing and recognizing an image captured by a camera. The shadow of the vehicle is likely to cause misclassification of the vehicle type due to diverse errors and mistakes occurring when detecting geometrical properties of the vehicle. In case that shadows of two different vehicles are overlapped, not only the type of the vehicles may be misclassified but also it is difficult to accurately identify the type of the vehicles. In this paper, we propose a robust algorithm to remove the shadow of a vehicle by calculating the luminance, the chrominance, the gradient density of the cast shadow from information acquired using the image subtraction of the background, and to recognize the substantial vehicle figure. Even when it is hard to detect and split a target vehicle from its shadow as shadows of vehicles are attached to each other, our robust algorithm can detect the vehicle figure only. We implemented our system with a general camera and conducted experiments on various vehicles on general roads to find out our vehicle shade removal algorithm is efficient when detecting and recognizing vehicles.

The current autonomous vehicle competitions are dominated by a few leading research institutions and universities. Since the leading research groups have been able to accumulate their knowledge and to develop their own algorithms for autonomous vehicle for many years, the technology gap seems too big for other followers to catch up with. On the other hand, recent researches predict that there would be a sharp rise in demand for engineers with background in autonomous vehicle technology. Therefore, it would be warranted to further expand the base of the academia and autonomous vehicle industry. In an effort to achieve this goal, it would be beneficial to hold a new format of autonomous vehicle competition event where undergraduate students can play a leading role. So, this study is to analyze the current autonomous vehicle competitions and thus to establish a strategic plan to develop a unique and improved competition event. This study investigates the pros and cons of the domestic and international autonomous vehicle competitions. Based on the analysis for the current autonomous vehicle competitions, the authors suggest a strategic plan to initiate an autonomous vehicle competition. To implement the aforementioned strategic plan, it is necessary to develop a systematic environment where the education and communication are actively available. Through the strategic plan the authors propose, the newly launching autonomous vehicle competition will able to encourage the undergraduate students and professors to dive in the cutting-edge technology thereby increasing technology competitiveness.
The objective of this research is to monitor and control the vehicle motion in order to remove out the existing safety risk based upon the human-machine cooperative vehicle control. A predictive control method is proposed to control the steering wheel of the vehicle to keep the lane. Desired angle of the steering wheel to control the vehicle motion could be calculated based upon vehicle dynamics, current and estimated pose of the vehicle every sample steps. The vehicle pose and the road curvature were calculated by geometrically fusing sensor data from camera image, tachometer and steering wheel encoder though the Perception Net, where not only the state variables, but also the corresponding uncertainties were propagated in forward and backward direction in such a way to satisfy the given constraint condition, maintain consistency, reduce the uncertainties, and guarantee robustness. A series of experiments was conducted to evaluate the control performance, in which a car Like robot was utilized to quit unwanted safety problem. As the results, the robot was keeping very well a given lane with arbitrary shape at moderate speed.

Drivers check always vehicle state for own safety and is necessary to understand about vehicle state. If driver know vehicle state, because driver request vehicle state at vehicle specialty company, driver pay a lot of money and waste a lot of time. Now, drivers have checked vehicle state by using variety features of smart phone due to progress of IT(Information Technology). but existing smartphone vehicle diagnostic system learned professional knowledge of vehicle and know vehicle state. drives not need vehicle diagnostic. to overcome these disadvantages, there use easily drivers by using smartphone and request system to know own all vehicle state. In this paper, there implement vehicle diagnostic system with smartphone based on android OS to use easily this system and know check information of vehicle supplies replacement cycles, vehicle internal problems, Eco driving by using OBD-II data to receive by OBD-II Protocol convert Bluetooth connector.
It is a concern that eco-driving vehicles, because their driving behavior differs from other vehicles due to e.g. e-start, may inhibit smooth traffic flow. Therefore, it is necessary to study the cooperative eco-driving done by a vehicle group, putting "vehicle-to-vehicle communication" and "road-to-vehicle communication" into perspective. Based on these factors, this study aimed to: 1) Analyze fuel consumption rates and driving behaviors of more than one vehicle following an Eco-Driving vehicle. 2) Examine the effect of information on the fuel consumption rate of the preceding vehicles on the following vehicles. As a result, the following findings were obtained: 1) By providing information to multiple following vehicles, the fuel consumption rate of the second vehicle was not lowered, while that of the third one was. 2) It is possible that, when information on fuel consumption of a preceding vehicle is provided to the following one, an inter-vehicular distance is shortened during deceleration to contribute to smooth traffic flow. From the above results, it is suggested that, when targeting a vehicle group, sharing the information on preceding vehicles is effective.

This paper addresses a planning problem in a pickup-delivery transportation' system under dynamic vehicle dispatching. We present a procedure to determine a fleet size in which stochastic characteristics of vehicle travels are considered. Statistical approach and queueing theory are applied to estimate vehicle travel time and vehicle waiting time, based on which an appropriate fleet size is determined. Simulation experiments are performed to verify the proposed procedure.

In this paper, we analyzed the vehicle fire accidents due to damage of vehicle's electrical components, which is applied to a vehicle. In recent development of electrical components technology, approximately 40% of vehicle manufacturing parts have applied electronic circuit technology. Phenomenon such deterioration of insulating performance or electric breakdown on the vehicle's electrical components and printed circuit boards(PCBs) resulted from moisture, contamination and aging due to repetitive operations, lead to the vehicle fire. Therefore, the application of electrical components with adequate electric capacity for vehicle and usage of molding techniques using a non-combustible materials to shut off the oxygen should be applied in order to prevent vehicle fire due to damage of the electrical components and PCBs.

An educational network system based on CAN protocol internal to a passenger ground vehicle has been developed. The developed network system has been applied to a commercial plug-in electrical vehicle and verified the educational applicability. To apply this in-vehicle network technology based on CAN, a suitable electric vehicle has been chosen and a CAN network structure has been designed, developed and manufactured. Since the commercial electric vehicle chosen as a test bed has its own proprietary electric network, we explain how the original electric network has been utilized and how the new network system has been designed. The developed network system on a real vehicle has been tested to show the applicability and the performance. Finally, the system has been applied at few classrooms to demonstrate how the in-vehicle network system works and to teach how to analyse the CAN signals. The developed system proven to be effective for educational purpose.
