Head-Up Display system makes it possible for the driver to be informed of important vehicle data such as vehicle speed, engine RPM or navigation data without taking the driver's eyes off the road. Long focal length optics, LCD with bright illumination, image generator and vehicle interface controllers are key parts of head-up display system. All these parts have been designed, developed and applied to the test vehicle. Virtual images are located about 2m ahead of the driver's eye by projecting it onto the windshield just below the driver's line of sight. Developed head-up display system shows satisfactory results for future commercialization.
The interior vehicle noise due to the exterior aerodynamic field is an important topic in the acoustic design of a car. The air flow detached from the A-pillar and impacting the side windows are of particular interest as they are located close to the driver / passenger and provides a lower insulation index than the trimmed car body parts. This paper presents a numerical analysis method for a simplified vehicle model. The internal air cavity including trim component are included in the simulation. The car body includes the windshield and two side windows. The body is made of aluminum and trimmed with porous layers. The methodology proposed in this paper relies on two steps: the first step involves the computation of the exterior flow and turbulence induced non-linear acoustic field using PowerFlow. The second step consists in the computation of the vibro-acoustic transmission through the window using the finite element vibro-acoustic solver Actran. Additionally in order to validate the numerical process, an experimental set-up has been created based on the simplified vehicle. The vibration of the windshield and windows, the total wind noise level results and the relative contributions of the different windows are then presented and compared to measurements. The influence of the flow yaw angle (different wind orientation) is also assessed.
A windshield wiper system plays a key part in assurance of driver's safety at rainfall. However, because quantity of rain and snow vary irregularly according to time and velocity of automotive, a driver changes speed and operation period of a wiper from time to time in order to secure enough visual field in the traditional windshield wiper system. Because a manual operation of wiper distracts driver's sensitivity and causes inadvertent driving, this is becoming direct cause of traffic accident. Therefore, this paper presents the basic architecture of vision-based smart wiper system and the rain sensing algorithm that regulate speed and interval of wiper automatically according to quantity of rain or snow. Also, this paper introduces the fuzzy wiper control algorithm based on human's expertise, and evaluates performance of suggested algorithm in the simulator model. Especially the vision sensor can measure wider area relatively than the optical rain sensor, hence, this grasps rainfall state more exactly in case disturbance occurs.

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the hazard risks of vehicle fires. Sensors were strategically placed in passenger cars to determine the temperature, propagation rate and direction of flame. The life safety hazard evaluations such as smoke and gas analysis were included. An important ignition position was performed in the engine compartment. The effects of different ignition positions and the opening of door glasses were also reviewed. The experimental results indicate that the maximum temperature when a vehicle burns varies commonly from 90$0^{\circ}C$ -100$0^{\circ}C$. The flame reaches in the face of a driver about 6-7minutes and the windshield glass breaks about 10 minutes after the ignition in the engine compartment of vehicle. And the smoke and gas concentrations reached the limit of human inhalation after 13-14 minutes. Especially the concentrations of carbon monoxide exceeded the TWA(50 ppm) during short time after ignition in cases of all experiments.

Vehicle wiper blades are typically treated with chlorine to lower their friction coefficient with the windshield surface. In this study, a chlorinated, natural rubber (NR) vehicle wiper blade was characterized using a pyrolytic technique. Unchlorinated and chlorinated wiper blades were pyrolyzed and the pyrolysis products were analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Besides isoprene and dipentene, the other principal pyrolysis products such as 1,5,8-p-menthatriene (MTT) and p,α-dimethylstyrene (DMS) were observed. The MTT and DMS ratios did not vary for the chlorinated nor unchlorinated samples when the entire rubber lip of the wiper blade was pyrolyzed. However, when only the lip surface of the wiper blade rubber was pyrolyzed (via scratching with a knife) the relative ratios of the chlorinated sample were much greater than those of the unchlorinated sample. As MTT is produced from the conjugated backbone of chlorinated NR that forms through HCl elimination during initial pyrolysis, and DMS is generated by the dehydrogenation of MTT, these two products could be used as markers for detecting chlorinated NR.
Understanding consumers' latent desires for product form has now become a critical issue in product design. Accordingly, product development processes is rapidly changing from product-oriented development to user-centered development. Driver visibility is considered as an important element of driving posture packaging in automobile interior design. This study presents a systematic process for driver visibility analysis approached from affective engineering method that provides design variable selection and screening with respect to the image/impression element of the human visibility. Also, the analysis of front visibility, often called the feeling of "openness", in motor vehicle interior design, is selected and practiced a case study using the systematic process proposed in this study. Twenty six participants evaluated the feeling of openness for thirty motor vehicles following the perceived scale of affective design factors. The results showed that variables such as the height of head lining, the height of cluster housing, the gradient of windshield and the volume of A-pillar were the critical design variables which affect the feeling of openness in a motor vehicle.

HMC is interested in the numerical prediction of this aerodynamic noise generated by the car windows with the final objective of improving the products design and reducing this noise. The methodology proposed in this paper relies on two steps: the first step involves the computation of the exterior flow and turbulence induced non-linear acoustic field using the CAA(Computational aeroacoustics) solver CAA++. The second step consists in the computation of the vibro-acoustic transmission through the side window using the finite element vibro-acoustic solver Actran. The internal air cavity including trim component are included in the simulation. In order to validate the numerical process, an experimental set-up has been created based on a generic car shape. The car body includes the windshield and two side windows. The body is made of aluminum and trimmed with porous layers. First, this paper describes the method including the CAA and the vibro-acoustic models, from the boundary conditions to the different components involved, like the windows, the trims and the car cavity is detailed. In a second step, the experimental set-up is described. In the last part, the vibration of the windshield and windows, the total wind noise level results and the relative contributions of the different windows are then presented and compared to measurements. The influence of the flow yaw angle (different wind orientation) is also assessed.
The car requires an inside mirror installed between the driver's seat and the passenger's seat to ensure the driver's rear and side view of the driver. Inside mirrors must always be attached to the vehicle to ensure the driver's visibility. Inside mirrors attached to the windshield of a vehicle are always exposed to direct sunlight and should be semi-permanently usable in hot and humid summer weather in Korea. Therefore, the mirror mount, which is the junction of the inside mirror, is particularly important in corrosion resistance and wear resistance suitable for humidity. Mirror mounts are currently difficult to manufacture due to their reliance on powder molding technology in advanced countries such as Japan and Germany. This paper focuses on the fabrication of high corrosion resistant stainless mirror mounts by vacuum sintering technique and focuses on the selection of materials suitable for the production of mirror mounts through experiments of 300 series stainless steel and 400 series stainless steel manufactured by vacuum sintering.
