In this study, the effect of the automotive haptic-seat technology which can transmit the driving information by the vibro-stimulus from the seat was investigated to overcome previous system's limitation relied on the visual and audial method and to help handicap driving. A prototype haptic seat covers with 30 coin-type motors and driver module were developed for this sake. A driving simulator on the 6-DOF motion-base was used for driving situation and we executed the seat vibro-stimulus test with 10 young participants who have normal tactile sense. The haptic recognition ratio by 30 locations was measured and analyzed in the result. The intensity of vibro-stimulus was adjusted by input voltage of motors (1.5V,2.5V,3.5V). All vibro-stimulus locations at 2.5V and 3.5V could be recognized by all participants and even in the lowest recognition ratio of 1.5V. The results showed that the seat vibration stimulus could be useful to transfer the drivers' information while driving.

The uneven reaction surface profile facing the lift magnets in attractive Maglev vehicles naturally brings about pitch motion of the bogie. In particular, in the placement configuration of the long stator of the linear synchronous motor (LSM) on the track for high-speed propulsion, surface irregularities and the offsets between the stator packs create measurable airgaps, i.e., the clearance between the magnet and the stator, with discontinuously extreme values, resulting in bogie pitch motion. This occurs because the airgap velocities and accelerations derived by the differentiations of the measured air-gaps are used to determine the voltages applied to the magnets. This paper incorporates bogie pitch motion into a control law for each magnet controller to reduce the variations in both the airgap and the pitch angle. The effectiveness of the proposed method is analyzed using a full-scale Maglev vehicle running over a test track.

The brake pad is one of the basic brake elements of a railway vehicle. It accomplishes braking action by friction between a pad and a brake disc. Because the brake pad must endure specified high pressure, the compressive strength is managed as the main performance factor. The standards for measuring the compressive strength of brake pads are KRS, KRCS, and KRT. These standards specify the size of the test piece for measuring compressive strength as $20mm{\times}10mm{\times}15mm$ ($W{\times}D{\times}H$). To reduce the uncertainty of the compressive strength, factors of uncertainty were analyzed. The results show that changing the dimensions of the cross section was useful to reduce the uncertainty. The uncertainty due to the new cross-sectional dimension shows the effectiveness of reducing uncertainty.

The primary design goal of a compressor is focused on improving efficiency. Secondary objective is to widen the operating range of compressor. This paper presents a numerical and experimental investigation of the influence of the bleed slot on the operating range for the 1.2 MW class centrifugal compressor installed in a turbocharger. The main design parameters of the bleed slot casing are upstream slot position, inlet pipe slope, downstream slot position and width. The DOE(design of experiment) method was carried out to optimize the casing design. Numerical analyses were done by the commercial code ANSYS-CFX based on the three dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Results showed that efficiency and pressure ratio increased as the downstream slot position and width were smaller and the upstream position was located away from the impeller inlet. Experimental works were also done with and without the bleed slot casing. The simulation results were in good agreement with the test data. Enhancement of both the surge margin up to 26.5% and the pressure ratio with the optimized bleed slot design were achieved, compared with the surge margin of only 6.6% without the bleed slot casing.

ISO 26262 is applied to vehicle and electrical/electronic component manufacturers for minimizing car accidents and life damage by the extended use of electronic control equipments and their malfunctions. In this standard, safety requirements are required to be applied from the early stage of development upto manufacture and disposal stages throughout the total lifecycle of the full vehicular system, and electromagnetic compatibility must be also managed as an important consideration factor. Therefore, it is nowadays very necessary to research and develop EFS(EMC for Functional Safety) to be applied in each stage of the design, manufacture, accreditation, use, maintenance stages of cars. In this paper, how EFS can be applied for the application of ISO 26262 is described. By the enforcement of this suggestions into the legal requirement or New Car Assessment Program(NCAP) test items, it is necessary that car manufacturer have to perform some procedures for ensuring car safety by themselves.
Many sea accidents such as collisions and groundings of vessels were occurred due to the lack of sufficient manoeuvring capability of vessels. Therefore IMO adopted 'The interim standards of ship manoeuvrability by Resolution A.751(18)' and the standards have been applied to vessels of 100m or more in length and all chemical tankers and gas carriers regardless qf the length, which were constructed on or after 1 July 1994. The IMO manoeuvrability standards are divided into three kinds as bellows; (1) Turning capability standards : Estimated values in design stage are to be certified by turning circle test of the actual vessel. (2) Course keeping quality standards : Estimated values in design stage are to be certified by $10^{\circ}\;and\;20^{\circ}$ Zig-Zag tests of the actual vessel. (3) Shortest stopping distance standards : Estimated values in design stage are to be certified by the shortest stopping distance tested by the actual vessel. In this paper, the authors computed the values of the manoeuvring standards of several vessels from their original design and compared them with those results from experiments of the model ships and also examined the values and concluded about the validity of IMO manoeuvrability standards.
Pedestrian safety was recently highlighted with a yellow carpet, a yellow-colored pavement material prepared for children waiting for signals for pedestrian crossing, without validation of its efficiency in practice. It was a promising device likely to assist highway safety by stimulating pedestrian to step on the yellow-colored area; it was generally called nudge effects. This paper delivers a study conducted to check the effectiveness of yellow carpet in three different aspects in vehicle driver's perspective by applying the newly introduced information technology (IT) service: Visual Attention Software (VAS). It was assumed that VAS developed by 3M in the United States should be able explain the Korean drivers' visual reaction behaviors since technology embedded in VAS was developed based on and proved by other various international countries and continents in the world. A set of pictures was taken at thirteen different field sites in seven school zone areas in the Seoul metropolitan area before and after the installation of a yellow carpet, respectively. Sets of those pictures were analyzed with VAS, and the results were compared based on the selective safety measures: the likely focusing on standing pedestrians (waiting for a pedestrian's green signal time) affected by its background (yellow-colored pavement) contrasting him or her. The test results from a set of before-and-after comparison analyses showed that the placement of yellow carpet would (1) increase 71% of driver's visual attention on pedestrian crossing areas and (2) change the sequential order of visual attention on that area 2.4 steps ahead. The findings would enhance deployment of such promising efficiency and thus increase children safety in pedestrian crossing. The result was promising to highlight the way to support the changes in conservative traffic safety engineering field by applying the advanced IT services, while much robust research was recommended to overcome the limitation of simplification of this study.
Display process has adopted RCA clean, being applied to large area and coped with environmental issue for last ten years. However, the approaching concept of ozonized, hydrogenised, or electrolyzed water cleaning technologies is within RCA clean paradigm. In this work, only electrolyzed anode water was applied to clean particles and organics as well as metals based on Pourbaix concept, and as a test vehicle, MgO particles were introduced to prove the new concept. The electrolyzed anode water is very oxidative with high oxidation reduction potential(ORP) and low in pH of more than 900mV and 3.1, respectively. MgO particles were immerged in the anode water and its weight losses due to dissolution were measured with time. Weight losses were in the ranges of 100 to 500 micrograms in 250m1 anode waters depending on their ORP and pH. Therefore it was concluded that the cleaning radicals in the anode water was at least in the range of 1 to 5E20 ea per 250 ml anode water equivalent to IE18 ea/cm3. Hence it can be assumed that the anode water be applied to display cleaning since 1E10 to IE15 ea/cm3 ranges of contaminants are being treated. In addition, it was observed that anode water does not develop micro-roughness on hydrophobic surface while it does on the native silicon oxide.

In the recent parking assistant systems, finding out the distance to the object behind a car is often performed by the range sensors such as ultrasonic sensors, radars. However, the installation of additional sensors on the used vehicle could be difficult and require extra cost. On the other hand, the motion stereo technique that extracts distance information using only an image sensor was also proposed. However, In the stereo rectification step, the motion stereo requires good features and exacts matching result. In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm that extracts the accurate distance information for the parallel parking situation using the consecutive images that is acquired by a rear-view camera. The proposed algorithm uses the quadrangle transform of the image, the horizontal line integral projection, and the blocking-based correlation measurement. In the experiment with the magna parallel test sequence, the result shows that the line-accurate distance measurement with the image sequence from the rear-view camera is possible.
With 3-D vision measuring, camera calibration is necessary to calculate parameters accurately. Camera calibration was developed widely in two categories. The first establishes reference points in space, and the second uses a grid type frame and statistical method. But, the former has difficulty to setup reference points and the latter has low accuracy. In this paper we present an algorithm for camera calibration using perspective ratio of the grid type frame with different line widths. It can easily estimate camera calibration parameters such as focal length, scale factor, pose, orientations, and distance. But, radial lens distortion is not modeled. The advantage of this algorithm is that it can estimate the distance of the object. Also, the proposed camera calibration method is possible estimate distance in dynamic environment such as autonomous navigation. To validate proposed method, we set up the experiments with a frame on rotator at a distance of 1,2,3,4[m] from camera and rotate the frame from -60 to 60 degrees. Both computer simulation and real data have been used to test the proposed method and very good results have been obtained. We have investigated the distance error affected by scale factor or different line widths and experimentally found an average scale factor that includes the least distance error with each image. It advances camera calibration one more step from static environments to real world such as autonomous land vehicle use.
