  • This paper proposes a vehicle license plate recognition system, which has relatively a simple structure and is highly tolerant of noise, by using the DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients extracted from the character region of a license plate and the LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization) neural network. The image of a license plate is taken from a captured vehicle image based on RGB color information, and the character region is derived by the histogram of the license plate and the relative position of individual characters in the plate. The feature vector obtained by the DCT of extracted character region is utilized as an input to the LVQ neural classifier fur the recognition process. In the experiment, 109 vehicle images captured under various types of circumstances were tested with the proposed method, and the relatively high extraction rate of license plates and recognition rate were achieved.

  • This paper proposes recognition system using multi-backpropagation neural networks rather than single backpropagation neural network to enhance the rate of character recognition resultsing from extracting the region of velhicle number in that the image of vehicle number plate from CCD camera has a distinguish feature, that is, illumination of a pattern. The experiment in this paper shows an output that the method using multi-backpropagation neural networks rather than signal backpropagation neural network takes less training time for computation and also has higher recognition rage of vehicle number.

  • The final goal of this study is to develop a system that can analyze whether a wanted vehicle is a criminal vehicle from images collected from black boxes, smartphones, CCTVs, and so on. Data collection was collected using a self-developed black box. The used data in this study has used a total of 83,753 cases such as the eight vehicle types(truck, RV, passenger car, van, SUV, bus, sports car, electric vehicle) and 434 vehicle models. As a result of vehicle recognition using YOLO v5, mAP was found to be 80%. As a result of identifying the vehicle model with ReXNet using the self-developed black box, the accuracy was found to be 99%. The result was verified by surveying field police officers. These results suggest that improving the accuracy of data labeling helps to improve vehicle recognition performance.

  • An autonomous vehicle requires a technology of generating maps by recognizing surrounding environment. The recognition of the vehicle's environment can be achieved by using distance information from a 2D laser scanner and color information from a camera. Such sensor information is used to generate 2D or 3D maps. A 2D map is used mostly for generating routs, because it contains information only about a section. In contrast, a 3D map involves height values also, and therefore can be used not only for generating routs but also for finding out vehicle accessible space. Nevertheless, an autonomous vehicle using 3D maps has difficulty in recognizing environment in real time. Accordingly, this paper proposes the technology for generating 2D maps that guarantee real-time recognition. The proposed technology uses only the color information obtained by removing height values from 3D maps generated based on the fusion of 2D laser scanner and camera data.

  • Recently, self-driving research has been actively studied in various institutions. Accurate recognition is important because information about surrounding objects is needed for safe autonomous driving. This study mainly deals with the signal processing of LiDAR among sensors for object recognition. LiDAR is a sensor that is widely used for high recognition accuracy. First, we clustered and tracked objects by predicting relative position and speed of objects. The characteristic points of all objects were extracted using point cloud data of each objects through proposed algorithm. The Classification between vehicle and pedestrians is estimated using number of characteristic points and distances among characteristic points. The algorithm for classifying cars and pedestrians was implemented and verified using test vehicle equipped with LiDAR sensors. The accuracy of proposed object classification algorithm was about 97%. The classification accuracy was improved by about 13.5% compared with deep learning based algorithm.

  • This paper presents how to recognize the new-type vehicle license plate using multi-link recognizer after extract the features from characters. In order to assist this task, this paper proposed FE-MCBP to recognize each character that got through image preprocess, extract range of vehicle license plate and extract process of each character. FE-MCBP is the recognizer based on the features of the character, The recognizer is employed to identify the new-type vehicle licence plates which have both the hangul and the arabic numeral characters. And its recognition rate is improved 9.7 percent than the back propagation recognizer before. Also it makes use of extract of linear component and region coordinate generation technology to normalize a image of the tilted vehicle license plate. The recognition system of the new-type vehicle license plate make possible recognize a image of the tilted vehicle license plate when using this system. Also, this system can recognize the tilted or imperfect vehicle licence plates.

  • A vehicle license plate includes the most important information for recognition and classification of the vehicle. In this paper, we propose a vehicle license plate recognition system using image binarization and template matching. In the proposed system, an image of the vehicle license plate is converted into a gray scale image and the gray image undergoes the binarization process. Finally, the numbers on the plate are extracted from the binary image using the template matching algorithm.

  • In this study, a traffic light recognition algorithm was implemented and validated for low-speed special purpose vehicles in an urban environment. Real-time image data using a camera and YOLO algorithm were applied. Two methods were presented to increase the accuracy of the traffic light recognition algorithm, and it was confirmed that the second method had the higher accuracy according to the traffic light type. In addition, it was confirmed that the optimal YOLO algorithm was YOLO v5m, which has over 98% mAP values and higher efficiency. In the future, it is thought that the traffic light recognition algorithm can be used as a dual system to secure the platform safety in the traffic information error of C-ITS.

  • The number of vehicles are rapidly increased as our society is developed. The vehicle recognition has been studied for a while because many people acknowledged it has critical functions to solve the problems of traffic control or vehicle-related crimes. In this paper a novel method is proposed to recognize vehicle models corresponding makers. Vehicles' models are recognized based on the texture parameters from segmented radiator region above a number plate. A three-layer neural network was built and trained with the texture features for recognition. The proposed method shows $93.7\%$ of recognition rate and $99.7\%$ of specificity for vehicles' model.

  • This paper presents and implements a vehicle speed measurement system using a license plate recognition system and a stereo camera. Using the feature points of the license plate recognition system, the disparity information is extracted and then the distance to the feature points is calculated by using the disparity information. In this paper, a vehicle speed is measured using the adjacent distances from consecutive stereo images and the corresponding time of the distances. Actual vehicle speed is also measured using the reference measurement equipment (tape switch based system) in order to test the accuracy of the proposed speed measurement system. The implemented stereo based speed measurement system shows appropriate result within specification both in the daytime and nighttime experiments.
