Among many types of light rail transits (LRT), the rubber-tired automated guide-way transit (AGT) is prevalent in many countries due to its advantages such as good acceleration/deceleration performance, high climb capacity, and reduction of noise and vibration. However, AGT is generally powered by high-voltage electric power feeding system and it may cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) to measurement sensors. The fiber optic sensor system is free from EMI and has been successfully applied in many applications of civil engineering. Especially, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors are the most widely used because of their excellent multiplexing capabilities. This paper investigates a prestressed concrete girder bridge in the Korean AGT test track using FBG based sensors to monitor the dynamic response at various vehicle speeds. The serviceability requirements provided in the specification are also compared against the measured results. The results show that the measured data from FBG based sensors are free from EMI though electric sensors are not, especially in the case of electric strain gauge. It is expected that the FBG sensing system can be effectively applied to the LRT railway bridges that suffered from EMI.

This study was carried out to improve the ride quality of high-speed electric multiple unit. Through dynamic analysis of the HEMU-430X, the range of the equivalent conicity with a critical speed of 300 km/h was between 0.05 and 0.25. The initial adopted wheel profile of HEMU-430X was S1002. The equivalent conicity of S1002 with the mileage of more than 40,000 km was about 0.033 and it was confirmed that XP55 is more suitable for stable operation because XP55 has the equivalent conicity of over 0.061. In order to improve ride quality of high-speed electric multiple unit, the change of installation angle of the yaw damper was suggested from $7.35^{\circ}$ to $0^{\circ}$. From sensitivity analysis and optimization, the air spring lateral and vertical stiffness was suggested to be reduced by 30% and the secondary vertical and lateral damper damping coefficient was increased by 50%. By applying this, it was expected that the car body acceleration could be improved by about 20% on average. The HEMU-430X's yaw damper installation angle was changed to $0^{\circ}$ and the damping coefficient of the lateral damper was increased by 30%. When the test run was carried out at the speed of 300 km/h on the Kyungbu high-speed line, the vehicle lateral acceleration had improved by 34.3%. The effect of additional improvement measures proposed in this paper will be tested in the on track test. The riding quality improvement process used in this study can be used to solve ride quality problems that can occur in commercial operation of high-speed electric multiple unit in the future.

Most of the existing rail structures have undergone a lot of aging since a considerable period of time has passed from completion. In particular, among existing railway bridges, many of the plate girder bridges are older bridges that have lived 40 to 60 years or more. Since the treadmill is directly connected to the girder without the ballast, the running load of the vehicle is directly transmitted to the bridge. Therefore, the shock and noise applied to the bridge are larger than those of the ballast bridge, and the dynamic shock and vibration are also relatively large. Therefore, it is very urgent to develop appropriate maintenance, repair and reinforcement technology for existing steel plate bridge. In this study, the authors introduced the characteristics of embedded rail (ERS) developed for improving the performance of the existing plate girder bridge and the techniques solving the vibration and noise problems. In order to evaluate the vibration and noise reduction performance of ERS, a non-ballast plate girder bridge with 5m length of sleepers installed and a plate girder bridge with ERS were fabricated. And, then, the vibration response generated under the same excitation condition was measured and analyzed. Also, the radiated noise analysis was performed using the vibration response data obtained from the experiment as the input data of the acoustic analysis model. As a result of experiments and analyses, it was confirmed that the plate girder bridge's vibration using ERS was reduced by 15.0~18.8dB and the average noise was reduced by 7.7dB(A) more than the non-ballast bridge.

The biggest obstacle in the nuclear power generation is the high level radioactive waste such as the spent nuclear fuel. High level radioactivities and generated heat make the safe treatment of the spent nuclear fuel very difficult. Nowadays, the only treatment method is a deep geological disposal technology. This paper treats the structural safe design problem of the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister which is one of the core technologies of the deep geological disposal technology. Especially, this paper executed the nonlinear structural analysis for the stresses and deformations occurring in the canister due to the impulsive force applied to the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister in the case of an accidental drop and ground impact event from the transportation vehicle in the repository. The main content of the analysis is about that the impulsive force is obtained using the commercial rigid body dynamic analysis computer code, RecurDyn, and the stress and deformation caused by this impulsive force are obtained using the commercial finite element static structural analysis computer code, NISA. The analysis results show that large stresses and deformations may occur in the canister, especially in the rid or the bottom of the canister, due to the impulsive force occurring during the collision impact period.

POGO is a dynamic axial instability phenomenon that occurs in liquid-propelled rockets. As the natural frequencies of the fuselage and those of the propellant supply system become closer, the entire system will become unstable. To predict POGO, the propellant (oxidant and fuel) tank in the first stage is modeled as a shell element, and the remaining components, the engine and the upper part, are modeled as mass-spring, and structural analysis is performed. The transmission line model is used to predict the pressure and flow perturbation of the propellant supply system. In this paper, the closed-loop transfer function is constructed by integrating the fuselage structure and fluid modeling as described above. The pogo suppressor consists of a branch pipe and an accumulator that absorbs pressure fluctuations in a passive manner and is located in the middle of the propellant supply system. The design parameters for its design optimization to suppress the decay phenomenon are set as the diameter, length of the branch pipe, and accumulator. Multiple-objective function optimization is performed by setting the energy minimization of the closed loop transfer function in terms of to the mass of the pogo suppressor and that of the propellant as the objective function.

In this paper, we study empirically examined the adventurous investments in corporate venture capital (CVC) firms' investment in the U.S. based corporate venture capital industry. Unlike existing studies focusing CVC firm's characteristics related to parent corporates and regarding CVC firm as a vehicle of corporate venturing, we identified CVC firm as an independent learning agent to adapt to dynamic environment and investigate their exploration and exploitation in investments based on organizational learning theory. Specifically, we investigate the market-environmental factors affecting CVC's adventurous investment in different sector rather than previously done. First, we examined competition intensity in CVC industry might be related to CVC firm's explorative investments. Second, CVC firm's investment experiences might affect as an inertia to invest on unexperienced sector. Finally, we investigated risk preference effect on CVC firm's venturing investments. The empirical data analyzed in the study contained a total of 85 U.S. based CVC firms and their 2,306 investments from 1996 until 2017. After conducting a GEE regression analysis and a Logit regression analysis, we found the significance and direction of our independent and moderating variables strongly supported all of our four hypotheses in a highly robust manner.

In order to replace mineral aggregate used as road pavement materials with steel slag aggregate, this present study evaluated mechanical properties of SMA Concrete mixtures using steel slag aggregate as oxidized slag from electric furnace in iron works. The variables of this experiment are the aggregate type of mineral and steel slag and the sieve sized of 10mm and 13mm. The physical properties inclu ding the specific gravity and absorption rate etc. of the slag aggregate mixtu res satisfied the KS standard as asphalt mixtu re. As a resu lt of evalu ating the mechanical properties of the asphalt mixtures, the optimum asphalt content of the slag aggregate mixtures were lower than that of the mineral aggregate mixtures, but other quality standards were all satisfied. In the deformation strength evaluation, the slag aggregate mixtures were measu red slightly higher than that of the mineral aggregate mixtu res, and the dynamic stability test satisfied the 2,000pass/mm standard value in all specimens. And, the moduli of resilient of the slag aggregate mixtures showed an improved value compared with the mineral aggregate mixtures. Therefore, as the resilient rate of the slag aggregate mixtures improved, it is speculated that there will be an effect of improving public performance according to the repeated traffic load of the vehicle.

Regular or irregular situations such as traffic accidents, damage to road facilities, maintenance or repair work, and vehicle breakdowns occur frequently on highways. It is required to provide traffic services to drivers by promptly recognizing these regular or irregular situations, various techniques have been developed for rapidly collecting data and detecting abnormal traffic conditions to solve the problem. We propose a method that can be used for verification and demonstration of unexpected situation algorithms by establishing a system and developing algorithms for detecting unexpected situations on highways. For the detection of emergencies on expressways, a system was established by defining the expressway contingency and algorithm development, and a test bed was operated to suggest a method that can be used for verification and demonstration of contingency algorithms. In this study, a system was established by defining the unexpected situation and developing an algorithm to detect the unexpected situation on the highway, and a method that can be used verifying and demonstrating unexpected situations. It is expected to secure golden time for the injured by reducing the effectiveness of secondary accidents. Also predictable accidents can be reduced in case of unexpected situations and the detection time of unpredictable accidents.

Currently, the response correction factor is calculated by comparing the response measured by the load test on a bridge with the response analyzed in the initial analytical model. Then the load rating and the load carrying capacity are evaluated. However, the response correction factor gives a value that fluctuates depending on the measurement location and load condition. In particular, when the initial analytical model is not suitable for representing the behavior of a bridge, the range of variation is large and the analysis response by the calibrated model may give a result that is different from the measured response. In this study, a pseudo-static load test was applied to obtain static response with dynamic components removed under various load conditions of a vehicle moving at a low speed. Static response was measured on two similar PSC-I girder bridges, and the response correction factors for displacement and strain were calculated for each of the two bridges. When the initial analysis model was not properly set up, it is verified that the response of the analytical model corrected by the average response correction factor does not fall within the margin of error with the measured response.
