Special railway vehicles for track maintenance are equipped with a tamping device that adjusts various track trajectories to reduce the vibration of rolling stock and improve ride quality during trains passing over a track. The development of a simulator that can confirm the error of the actual tamping work is important for reducing human error in the linearization of the track misalignment. In this study, to improve the reality and training effect of conventional 2D simulator, 3D simulator modeling was implemented for tamping work of special railway vehicles in virtual space. The problem of buffering during high screen quality of tamping work was solved using the Unwrap UVW mapping technique of a low polygon extracted from high quality polygon modeling. The human error in the training of the tamping work was detected by the principle of circle and square collision when the tamping tyne and the sleeper collided. In addition, vibration of the driving chair was generated at the same time as the collision, and the number of the sleeper strikes is displayed on the simulator exercise screen. Owing to the scattering of railway ballast protruding from the sleepers, which had a serious effect on the safety of the vehicle, the gravel bouncing effect of the tamping unit was applied.

Recently, the vehicle driving device has been designed for driver's convenience. Especially, the automobile industry develops the vehicle using the joystick instead of steering wheel from the concept car. The biggest strength of using the joystick is that the driver feels less workload and fatigue than when the driver uses steering wheel. However, this kind of study still needs more research and experiments for more accurate result. Therefore, this research evaluated workload according to the driving device by the survey and the measurement of physiological signal. The reason not only using the survey also using the measurement of physiological signal is to support the result of the survey which is not enough to bring the accurate result. There were tow different kinds of methods to carry out this research; SWAT (Subjective Workload Assessment Technique) for the survey and the biopac equipment for the measurement of physiological signal. Furthermore, previously established driving simulator, GPS (Global Positioning System), and Seoul-Cheonan virtual expressway DB were used for the experiment. As the result of the experiment with 13 subjects, it was certain that using joystick device brings less workload and fatigue to the drivers than using steering wheel following both methods-the survey and the measurement of physiological signal. Also, it confirmed the significant result from the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) statistics analysis program.
As the interactive AI speaker becomes popular, voice recognition is regarded as an important vehicle-driver interaction method in case of autonomous driving situation. The purpose of this study is to confirm whether multimodal interaction in which feedback is transmitted by auditory and visual mode of AI characters on screen is more effective in user experience optimization than auditory mode only. We performed the interaction tasks for the music selection and adjustment through the AI speaker while driving to the experiment participant and measured the information and system quality, presence, the perceived usefulness and ease of use, and the continuance intention. As a result of analysis, the multimodal effect of visual characters was not shown in most user experience factors, and the effect was not shown in the intention of continuous use. Rather, it was found that auditory single mode was more effective than multimodal in information quality factor. In the semi-autonomous driving stage, which requires driver 's cognitive effort, multimodal interaction is not effective in optimizing user experience as compared to single mode interaction.

Drivers have willing to do secondary tasks in situations deemed safe autonomous driving. I studied that positive notifications for secure areas could improve situation awareness and driving performance after TOR(Take over request) in autonomous driving. Comparing TOR alert only and monitoring alert conditions, participants in the positive notification condition showed higher situation awareness and driving performance. Also, in emotional assessment, the positive notification condition showed higher positive evaluation than other conditions. Due to Covid-19, I designed experiments separate online with driving videos in experiment 1 and offline using a driving simulator in experiment 2. This study has implications that presented a different perspective on autonomous driving notification design.
The one of the most important factors is the platoon design on developing AH3(Advanced Highway System), as it is related to traffic efficiency and drivers' safety. This study was evaluated that how much speed is comfortable for drivers and how long distance is appropriate for vehicular gap of platoon by measuring drivers' physiology signal and sensibility. A fixed-based AHS simulator was developed by using a real vehicle cockpit and the restructured part of Korean highway for human factors evaluation. The EEG(electroencephalogram), ECG (electrocardiogram) and GSR(Galvanic Skin Response) were measured for obtaining drivers' physiology signal according to the change of speed and gap. The brain wave(${\alpha},\;{\beta},\;{\delta},\;{\theta}$) by EEG, the response of the autonomic nervous system. the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, by ECG, and relax-arousal situation by GSR were analyzed. The SD(Semantic Differential) method was also applied to evaluate drivers' sensibility by 5-grade evaluation scale with 96 adjectives. SSQ(Simulator Sickness Questionnaire) was used to measure the simulator sickness of pre and post driving, two times. As the results, drivers were comfortable with 120km/h speed of platoon and lam to 15m vehicular distance. The results of this study may differ from the adaption of the reality because of many parameters. However, the purpose of this study is show to significant results of the drivers' safety and the acceptability of human factors evaluation.

The nodes constituting the vehicle ad hoc network (VANET) are vehicles moving along the road and road side units (RSUs) installed around the road. The vehicle ad hoc network is used to collect the status, speed, and location information of vehicles driving on the road, and to communicate with vehicles, vehicles, and RSUs. Today, as the number of vehicles continues to increase, urban roads are suffering from traffic jams, which cause various problems such as time, fuel, and the environment. In this paper, we propose a method to solve traffic congestion problems on urban roads and demonstrate that the method can be applied to solve traffic congestion problems through performance evaluation using two typical protocols of vehicle ad hoc networks, AODV and GPSR. The performance evaluation used ns-2 simulator, and the average number of traffic jams and the waiting time due to the average traffic congestion were measured. Through this, we demonstrate that the vehicle ad hoc-based traffic congestion management technique proposed in this paper can be applied to urban roads in smart cities.

The purpose of this study was to test the safety of the heel rest which was made for reducing the automobile driver's muscle fatigue with automatic transmission. Sixty subjects participated in the test, including ten males and ten females in 30s, 40s, 50s, respectively. Simulator consisted of automobile cockpit, accelerator and brake pedal sensor, heel rest. and driving displays. 30 seconds were given to subjects to be accustomed to the simulator environment. They also had one pre-trial to use the brake pedal according to the experimental scenario. They were told to step on the brake pedal immediately as soon as the red light was on the display The reaction time representing the foot travel time between accelerator and brake pedal was measured with/without the heel rest. In results, there was no significant difference in reaction time between conditions with/without heel rest. The result indicated that the heel rest used in this study would be a safe accessory for drivers who need to reduce the fatigue of the muscle or joint during driving.
The main purpose of this research was to examine the EMG characteristics of driver's upper limb and driving performance for operating accelerator and brake pedal by using four types of left hand control devices(Push/Pull, Push/Right angle, Push/Rock, Push/Twist) during simulated driving. The persons with disabilities in the lower extremity have problems in operation of the vehicle because of functional impairments for controlling accelerator and brake pedal. Therefore, if hand control device is used for adaptive driving controls in persons with lower extremity loss, the disabled people could improve their quality of mobility life by driving a car. Twenty subjects were involved in this research to assess driving performance and EMG activities for operating accelerator and brake pedal by using four types of left hand controls in driving simulator. We measured EMG responses of six muscles(posterior deltoid, middle deltoid, biceps, triceps, extensor carpi radialis, and flexor carpi radialis) during pulling and pushing movement with four types of left hand controls for acceleration and braking. STISim Drive 3 program was used for evaluation test of four types of left hand control devices in straight lane course for time to reach target speed and brake reaction time. While operating the four types of left hand controls for acceleration, EMG activities of posterior deltoid in normal subjects were significantly increased(p < 0.05) compared to the disabled subjects. It was also found that EMG responses of triceps and posterior deltoid were significantly increased(p < 0.05) when using the Push/Right angle type than Push/Pull type. While operating the four types of left hand controls for braking, EMG activities of flexor carpi radialis and triceps in subjects with disability were significantly increased(p < 0.05) compared to the normal subjects. It was shown that muscle responses of posterior deltoid, middle deltoid and triceps were significantly increased when using the Push/Right angle type than Push/Rock type. Time to reach target speed and brake reaction time in subjects with disability was increased by 2.5% and 4.6% on average compared to normal subjects. The person with disabilities showed a tendency to relatively slow performance in acceleration at the straight lane course.

The purpose of this work is to suggest the optimal color temperature, which induces a sense of comfort for autonomous vehicle users through the analysis of biosignal using electroencephalography (EEG) and photoplethysmography (PPG). To achieve this purpose, we applied lighting with a color temperature of 3000 K, 4000 K, 5000 K, and 6000 K to the autonomous driving environment. We experimented in a laboratory equipped with a graphic driving simulator. The experimental procedure is as follows: 1) stabilization (5 min). 2) Uchida-Kraepelin test (3 min). 3) Automatic driving + lighting (3 min). This procedure was repeated four times under different color temperatures. We performed frequency analysis on a collected time-series data and calculated the power value for each frequency band through power spectrum analysis. In the case of EEG, we analyzed α- and β-waves, which are indicators of stability and arousal, respectively. In the case of PPG, we analyzed the sympathetic nervous system activity. To reduce deviations between the subjects, we normalized the data before analysis. The result of the first analysis revealed that α-wave increased only at 5000 K, while the β-wave increased at almost all color temperatures. In addition, in the case of PPG, sympathetic nervous system activity (SNSA) increased under driving conditions. The result of the second analysis revealed that the difference between β-wave and SNSA is insignificant. In conclusion, the increase in α-waves showed that EEG was most stable at 5000 K. The results of this study can be applied to the upcoming autonomous driving era to induce high driver satisfaction. Furthermore, this approach could eventually lead to the acceptance of autonomous vehicles by suggesting a positive effect of autonomous driving.
