  • Underwater robotic vehicles (URVs) have been an important tool for various underwater tasks because they have greater speed, endurance, depth capability, and safety than human divers. As the use of such vehicles increases, the vehicle control system becomes one of the most critical subsytems to increase autonomy of the vehicle. The vehicle dynamics are nonlinear and their hydrodynamic coefficients are often difficult to estimate accurately. In this paper a new type of fuzzy model-based controller based on Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy model is designed and applied to the control of of an underwater robotic vehicle. The proposed fuzzy controller : 1) is a nonlinear controller, but a linear state feedback controller in the consequent of each local fuzzy control rule ; 2) can guarantee the stability of the closed-loop fuzzy system ; 3) is relatively easy to implement. Its good performance as well as its robustness to the change of parameters have been shown and compared with the re ults of conventional linear controller by simulation.

  • Until now, all of the port goods are transported manually by container transporter in the port. Recently there are a lot of studies about unmanned vehicle driven automatically. In terms of the vehicle automation, the control of steering and velocity on vehicle systems is very important part in container transporter. In common sense, vehicle systems have lots of nonlinear parameters so we have many difficulties in designing the optimal controller of them. In this paper, we present a design of the TDOF PID controller using a hybrid schematic algorithm to control the steering system optimally. We used the single-track model to pre-test the designed controller before appling to AGV. We also used the ES(evolutionary strategy) and SA(simulated annealing) algorithms to construct the hybrid tuning algorithm for parameters of controller. Finally, we had the computer simulation to verify that our designed controller has better performance than the other one.

  • This paper presents a design of fuzzy PD depth controller for the autonomous underwater vehicle entitled KAUV-1. The vehicle is shaped like a torpedo with light weight and small size and used for marine exploration and monitoring. The KAUV-1 has a unique ducted propeller located at aft end with yawing actuation acting as a rudder. For depth control, the KAUV-1 uses a mass shifter mechanism to change its center of gravity, consequently, can control pitch angle and depth of the vehicle. A design of classical PD depth controller for the KAUV-1 was presented and analyzed. However, it has inherent drawback of gains, which is their values are fixed. Meanwhile, in different operation modes, vehicle dynamics might have different effects on the behavior of the vehicle. In this reason, control gains need to be appropriately changed according to vehicle operating states for better performance. This paper presents a self-tuning gain for depth controller using the fuzzy logic method which is based on the classical PD controller. The self-tuning gains are outputs of fuzzy logic blocks. The performance of the self-tuning gain controller is simulated using Matlab/Simulink and is compared with that of the classical PD controller.

  • The problem of designing intelligent cruise control system for a longitudinal motion of an automobile, which is powered by internal combustion engines coupled to an automatic multispeed transmission, is considered. The basic concept is a vehicle-following system which maintains desired spacing between vehicles. This system actuates throttle with the information of the spacing error so as to maintain proper spacing and improve passenger ride comfort. In designing the controller, a modified controller, i.e, PID gain scheduling and fuzzy controller with fuzzy compensator was developed in order to overcome the nonlinearities of the automobile and obtain better performance. The computer simulation results illustrate that the better vehicle responses were obtained with the modified fuzzy controller and, under this controller, the vehicle responses were found to be relatively insensitive to parameter variations.

  • Narrow commuter vehicles can address many congestion, parking and pollution issues associated with urban transportation. In making narrow vehicles safe, comfortable and acceptable to the public, active tilt control systems are likely to playa crucial role. This paper focuses on the development of an active direct tilt control system for a narrow vehicle that utilizes an actuator in the vehicle suspension. A simple PD controller can stabilize the tilt dynamics of the vehicle to any desired tilt angle. However, the challenges in the tilt control system design arise in determining the desired lean angle in real-time and in minimizing tilt actuator torque requirements. Minimizing torque requirements requires the tilting and turning of the vehicle to be synchronized as closely as possible. This paper explores two different control design approaches to meet these challenges. A Receding Horizon Controller (RHC) is first developed so as to systematically incorporate preview on road curvature and synchronize tilting with driver initiated turning. Second, a nonlinear control system that utilizes feedback linearization is developed and found to be effective in reducing torque. A close analysis of the complex feedback linearization controller provides insight into which terms are important for reducing actuator effort. This is used to reduce controller complexity and obtain a simple nonlinear controller that provides good performance.

  • This paper suggests an algorithm for detecting fault of longitudinal controller in autonomous vehicles. Guaranteeing safety in fault situation is essential because electronic devices in vehicle are dependent each other. Several methods like alarm to driver, ceding control to driver, and emergency stop are considered to cope with fault. This research investigates the fault monitoring process in fail-safe system, for controller which is responsible for accelerating and decelerating control in vehicle. Residual is computed using desired acceleration control command and actual acceleration, and detection of its abnormal increase leads to the decision that system has fault. Before computing residual for controller, health monitoring process of acceleration signal is performed using hardware and analytic redundancy. In fault monitoring process for controller, a process model which is fitted using driving data is considered to improve the performance. This algorithm is simulated via MATLAB tool to verify performance.

  • In order for the underwater vehicle to perform various tasks, it is important to control the depth, course, and roll of the underwater vehicle. To design such a controller, it is necessary to construct a dynamic model of the underwater vehicle and select the appropriate hydrodynamic coefficients. For the controller design, since the dynamic model is linearized assuming a limited operating range, the control performance in the steady state is well satisfied, but the control performance in the transient state may be unstable. In this paper, in order to overcome the problems of the existing controller design, we propose a A2C(Advantage Actor-Critic) based roll controller for underwater vehicle with stable learning performance in a continuous space among reinforcement learning methods that can be learned through rewards for actions. The performance of the proposed A2C based roll controller is verified through simulation and compared with PID and Dueling DDQN based roll controllers.

  • The sliding mode controller has characteristics that ensure stability and robustness against system uncertainty and disturbance. However, chattering occurs in the control inputs to compensate for system uncertainties and ensure that the system operates efficiently on the sliding surface. When the disturbance is large, using a sliding mode controller requires a large control gain value, which also increases chattering and reduces performance. Therefore, in this study, a nonlinear disturbance observer was used to compensate for external disturbances such as currents and waves and uncertainty in the control system for autonomous underwater vehicles. Accordingly, a robust controller can be implemented while reducing the control gain. The disturbance observer serves to ensure that the behavior of the actual system is closer to the nominal model by compensating for uncertainties between the actual system model and the nominal model during the control process. Therefore, the simulation results show that the performance and robustness of the autonomous underwater vehicle controller are improved by introducing a disturbance observer.

  • This paper presents a design of stabilization controller for combat vehicle. A Stabilization system reject disturbances while vehicle moving. The conventional stabilization controller used to constant gain. We can improve the aiming performance by appropriate controller gain. We can find the proper controller gain for road frequencies by evolution strategy(ES). The relationship between the frequencies and proper control gains are generalized by use of the neural network. The road frequency estimated by wavelet transform of disturbance signal. The simulation result show that proposed controller is superior to the conventional stabilization controller.
