Recently, the various driving simulator have been used widely to analyze the handling performance of vehicle and to verify the motion control algorithm of vehicle. In this study, a virtual driving simulator based on the 20-DOF vehicle model is realized to estimate the handling performance and stability of a 4WS (Four-wheel-steering) and/or 4n(Four-wheel-driving) vehicle. Especially the DC motor controlled 4WS actuator is modelled in order to reflect the effect of the responsiveness of actuator on the handling performance and stability. And the realized simulator can be applied to develope a real time simulation system for designing and testing the real vehicles.

A simplified 3D dynamic model of tracked vehicle crawling on cohesive soft soil is investigated. The vehicle is assumed as rigid body with 6-dof. Cohesive soft soil is modeled through relations: pressure to sinkage, shear displacement to shear stress, and shear to dynamic sinkage. Equations of motion of vehicle are derived with respect to the body-fixed coordinates. In order to investigate 3D transient dynamics of tracked vehicle, Newmark's method is employed based on incremental-iterative algorithm. 3D dynamic simulations are conducted for a tracked vehicle model and steering performance is investigated.
This paper presents the enhancement of vehicle stability by active geometry control suspension(AGCS) system as the world-first, unique and patented chassis technology, which has more advantages than the conventional active chassis control systems in terms of the basic concept. The control approach of the conventional systems such as active suspensions(slow active, full active) and four wheel steering(4WS) system is directly to control the same direction with acting load to stabilize vehicle behavior resulting from external inputs, but AGCS controls the cause of vehicle behaviors occurring from vehicle and thus makes the system stable because it works as mechanical system after control action. The effect of AGCS is the remarkable enhancement of avoidance performance in abrupt lane change driving by controlling the rear bump toe geometry.
The unmanned vehicle is composed of three parts the front & side sensor system for keeping the lane and avoiding obstacles, the acceleration & brake control system for longitudinal motion control, and the steering control system for the lateral motion control. Each system helps the unmanned vehicle of which should take notice of its location and recognize obstacles around the place by itself and make a decision how much fast to proceed according to circumstances. During the operation, the control strategy that the vehicle can detect obstacles and avoid collision on the road involves with vehicle velocity very much. Therefore, We have to define a traction system which is powered by DC motor so that, unmanned vehicle can control its velocity accurately. In this study, we find mechanical and ...

The traffic accident is the prerequisite of the traffic accident reconstruction. In this study, the traffic accident (forward collision) and traffic accident reconstruction (inverse collision) simulations are conducted to improve the quality and accuracy of the traffic accident reconstruction. The vehicle and tire models are used to simulate the trajectories for the post-impact motion of the vehicles after collision. The impact dynamic model applicable to the forward and inverse collision simulations is also provided. The accuracy of impact analysis for the vehicular collision depends on the accuracy of the coefficients of restitution and friction. The neural network is used to estimate these coefficients. The forward and inverse collision simulations for the multi-collisions are conducted. The new method fur the accident reconstruction is proposed to calculate the pre-impact velocities of the vehicles without using the trial and error process which requires the repeated calculations of the initial velocities until the forward collision simulation satisfies with the accident evidences. This method estimates the pre-impact velocities of the vehicles by analyzing the trajectories of the vehicles. The vehicle slides on a road surface not only under the skidding during an emergency braking but also under the steering. A vehicle over steering or cornering with excessive speed loses the traction and leaves tile yaw marks on the road surface. The new critical speed formula based on the vehicle dynamics is proposed to analyze the yaw marks and shows smaller errors than ones of the existing critical speed formula.

Path planning is one of the important technologies for automated parking. It requires to plan a collision-free path considering the vehicle's kinematic constraints such as minimum turning radius or steering velocity. In a complex parking lot, Rapidly-exploring Random Tree* (RRT*) can be used for planning a parking path, and Reeds-Shepp or Hybrid Curvature can be applied as a tree-extension method to consider the vehicle's constraints. In this case, each of these methods may affect the computation time of planning the parking path, path-tracking error, and parking success rate. Therefore, in this study, we conduct comparative analysis of two tree-extension functions: Reeds-Shepp (RS) and Hybrid Curvature (HC), and show that HC is a more appropriate tree-extension function for parking path planning. The differences between the two functions are introduced, and their performances are compared by applying them with RRT*. They are tested at various parking scenarios in simulation, and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed by computation time, cross-track error while tracking the path, parking success rate, and alignment error at the target parking spot. These results show that HC generates the parking path that an autonomous vehicle can track without collisions and HC allows the vehicle to park with lower alignment error than those of RS.

Various assessment indexes have been developed and utilized to evaluate the driver workload. However, existing workload assessment indexes do not fully reflect driving habits and driving patterns of individual drivers. In addition, there exists significant differences in the amount of workload experienced by a driver and the ability to overcome the driver's workload. To overcome these limitations associated with existing indexes, this study has developed a novel workload assessment index to reflect an individual driver's driving pattern. An average of the absolute values of the steering velocity for each driver are set as a threshold value in order to reflect the driving patterns of individual drivers. Further, the sum of the areas of the steering velocities exceeding the threshold value, which is defined as erratic steering area (ESA) in this study, was quantified. The developed ESA index is applied in evaluating the driver workload of manually driven vehicles in automated vehicle platooning environments. Driving simulation experiments are conducted to collect drivers' responsive behavior data which are used for exploring the relationship between the NASA-TLX score and the ESA by the correlation analysis. As a result, ESA is found to have the greatest correlation with the NASA-TLX score among the various driver workload evaluation indexes in the lane change scenario, confirming the usefulness of ESA.

In recent years, due to heightened environmental awareness, Electric Power Steering (EPS) has been increasingly adopted as the steering control unit in manufactured vehicles. This has had numerous benefits, such as improved steering power, elimination of hydraulic hose leaks and reduced fuel consumption. However, for EPS systems to respond to actions, sensors must be employed; this means that the consistency of the sensor's linear variation is integral to the stability of the steering response. To ensure quality control, a reliable method for detecting defects and assessing linearity is required to assess the sensitivity of the EPS sensor to changes in the internal design characters. This paper proposes a data-driven defect and linearity assessment monitoring system, which can be used to analyze EPS component defects and linearity based on vehicle speed interval division. The approach is validated experimentally using data collected from an EPS test jig and is further enhanced by the inclusion of a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Based on the design, the developed system effectively performs defect detection with an accuracy of 0.99 percent and obtains a linearity assessment score at varying vehicle speeds.

As the occupant safety receives more attention from automobile industries. protection systems have been developed quite well. Developed protection systems must be evaluated through real tests in crash environment Since the real tests are extremely expensive. computer simulations are replaced for some prediction of the real test In the computer simulation. it is very crucial to express the real environment precisely in the modeling precess. The energy absorbing(EA) steering system has a very important rote in vehicle crashes because the occupant can hit the system directly. In this study. the EA steering system is modeled precisely. analyzed for the safely and designed by an optimization technology. First. the EA steering system is disassembled by parts and modeled by segments and joints. The segments are modeled by rigid bodies in motion and they have resistances in contact. Spring-damper elements and force-deflection curves are utilized to represent the joints. The body block test is cal lied out to validate. the modeling. When the test results are not enough for the detailed modeling. the differences between tests and simulations are minimized to calculate unknown parameters using optimization. The established model is applied to a crash simulation of a full-car model and tuned again. After the modeling is finished. components of the steering system are designed by an optimization algorithm. In the optimization process. the compound injury of a driver is defined and minimized to determine the chracteristics of the components. The second. order approximation algorithm has been adopted for the optimization.

In this paper, a steering control and speed control algorithm was presented for autonomous driving based on two vision sensors and road speed sign board. A car speed control algorithm was developed to recognize the speed sign by using TensorFlow, a deep learning program provided by Google to the road speed sign image provided from vision sensor B, and then let the car follows the recognized speed. At the same time, a steering angle control algorithm that detects lanes by analyzing road images transmitted from vision sensor A in real time, calculates steering angles, controls the front axle through PWM control, and allows the vehicle to track the lane. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm's steering and speed control algorithms, a car's prototype based on the Python language, Raspberry Pi and OpenCV was made. In addition, accuracy could be confirmed by verifying various scenarios related to steering and speed control on the test produced track.
