In this paper, the fuel economy of plug-in type hybrid electric vehicle is investigated through simulation. For the simulation study, 2 shaft type parallel hybrid powertrain is chosen and its operation modes are described. The operation algorithm which yields operation points of minimal fuel cost is suggested. Dynamic model fur operation of HEV and simulation procedure is described. Simulation results of fuel economy is compared to non plug-in type HEV as well as conventional vehicle. With total driving distance of 37km and full usage of 2kwh of electric energy stored in battery pack, plug-in type HEV shows 28-30% improved fuel economy compared to non plug-in type HEV and 86-93% improved fuel economy compared to conventional vehicle.
This paper develops ABS braking real - time simulator to develop vehicle braking system by simulation. Recently, real-time simulation is widely used in the development of vehicles to decrease development time. In the field of electronic braking, real-time simulation is actively underway. In order to simulate electronic braking model in real time, a vehicle model, a hydraulic model, and a control S/W model are required. These models must be calculated in one platform. Therefore, in this paper, a vehicle model composed of CarSim and a hydraulic model composed of SimulationX using S/W in actual ABS controller was developed as a Simulink model base and linked with Matlab real time model. Using this real-time model, design effects of the electronic braking controller were simulated according to road surface condition to verify its operability.
This paper is a numerical analysis study for evaluating the energy efficiency of electric vehicles. Currently, the methods for testing and evaluating the energy consumption efficiency of electric vehicles have limitations such as resources and time. Therefore, there is a need for research on developing models to predict the energy consumption efficiency of electric vehicles. In this study, a numerical analysis research is conducted to predict the energy efficiency of electric vehicles using a vehicle dynamics numerical analysis model. To validate the accuracy of the simulation model, it is compared the results of dynamometer tests with the simulation results and used the Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) protocol to acquire internal data from the electric vehicle. It is ensured the reliability of the simulation model by comparing data such as motor speed, battery voltage, current, state of charge (SOC), regenerative braking power generation, and total driving distance of the test vehicle with dynamometer test data and simulation model results.

This Paper focuses on modeling and simulation to analyze the characteristic of hybrid vehicle. The system includes proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC), photovoltaic generator(PV), lead-acid battery, motor, vehicle and controller. Main electricity is produced by the PEMFC and battery to meet the requirements of a user load. When vehicle is parked in a sunny place, extra power is generated by the photovotaics and is charged in a battery for next drive. Further we evaluate usefulness of this hybrid vehicle by using ADVISOR - the advanced vehicle simulator written in the Matlab/Simulink environment. According to simulation results, the extra power obtained by photovoltaics which have been explored in nature conditions can help to reduce the electrical load of PEMFC and increase the efficiency (over 30%).

Maglev vehicles, which are levitated and propelled by electromagnets, often run on elevated flexible guideways comprised of steel, aluminum and concrete. Therefore, an analysis of the dynamic interaction between the Maglev vehicle and the flexible guideway is needed in the design of the critical speed, ride, controller design and weight reduction of the vehicle. This study introduces a dynamic interaction simulation technique that applies structural dynamics. Because the proposed method uses detailed 3D FE models, it is useful to analyze the deformation of the elevated flexible guideway, the dynamic stress, and the motion of the vehicle. By applying the proposed method to an urban transit Maglev vehicle, UTM01, the dynamic response is simulated and validated. From the result of the study, we concluded that the simulation of dynamic interaction between the Maglev vehicle and the flexible guideway is possible and a potential of using computational mechanics.

The real vehicle crash experiment is the best way to evaluate the performance of a guardrail. However the experiment is very expensive because of high cost of vehicles and guardrail installation. Thus in this study, crash simulation of a vehicle against a steel guardrail is performed using LS-DYNA. There are many researches on the impact of a vehicle against a guardrail. However the friction between a vehicle and a guardrail is not considered, although it affects considerably the behavior of a guardrail. In this paper, the friction coefficient is applied to evaluate correctly the performance of a guardrail.

Driving simulators are used effectively for human factor study, vehicle system development and other purposes by enabling to reproduce actural driving conditions in a safe and tightly controlled enviornment. Interactive simulation requries appropriate sensory and stimulus cuing to the driver . Sensory and stimulus feedback can include visual , auditory, motion, and proprioceptive cues. A fixed-base driving simulator has been developed in this study for vehicle system developmnet and human factor study . The simulator consists of improved and synergistic subsystems (a real-time vehicle simulation system, a visual/audio system and a control force loading system) based on the motion -base simulator, KMU DS-Ⅰ developed for design and evaluation of a full-scale driving simulator and for driver-vehicle interaction.

To estimate fuel consumption of a vehicle, a car can be tested on chassis dynamometer. In this case, test causes a lot of time and money. To predict the fuel efficiency of vehicles in the design stage or early stage of development, the development of computer simulation model is necessary. Using simulation to predict the fuel consumption, the driving model which consists of time-velocity profile and time-grade profile is necessary In this study, vehicle model is developed in MatLab/simulink to estimate real driving fuel consumption rate with time-velocity profile, time-shift gear profile and time-grade profile. Vehicle model consists of driver model, engine model, power train model, and so on. On-road vehicle tests to verify the vehicle model are carried out for analyzing the result of simulation and comparing with those of the experiments.
In this paper, new methods for efficiently solving linear acceleration equations of multibody dynamic simulation exploiting sparsity for real-time simulation are presented. The coefficient matrix of the equations tends to have a large number of zero entries according to the relative joint coordinate numbering. By adequate joint coordinate numbering, the matrix has minimum off-diagonal terms and a block pattern of non-zero entries and can be solved efficiently. The proposed methods, using sparse Cholesky method and recursive block mass matrix method, take advantages of both the special structure and the sparsity of the coefficient matrix to reduce computation time. The first method solves the η$\times$η sparse coefficient matrix for the accelerations, where η denotes the number of relative coordinates. In the second method, for vehicle dynamic simulation, simple manipulations bring the original problem of dimension η$\times$η to an equivalent problem of dimension 6$\times$6 to be solved for the accelerations of a vehicle chassis. For vehicle dynamic simulation, the proposed solution methods are proved to be more efficient than the classical approaches using reduced Lagrangian multiplier method. With the methods computation time for real-time vehicle dynamic simulation can be reduced up to 14 per cent compared to the classical approach.
