This paper presents an optimal performance of rear wheel steering vehicle for maneuverability. The maneuverability of vehicle is evaluated in terms of yaw rate, body slip angle and driver input. The maneuverability of vehicle can be improved by rear wheel steering system. To obtain optimal performance of rear wheel steering vehicle, the optimal control history is designed. The high dimensional trajectory optimization problem is solved by formulating a quadratic program considering rear wheel steer input. To evaluate handling performance 7 degree-of-freedom vehicle model with actuation sub-models is designed. A step steer test is conducted to evaluate rear wheel steering vehicle. A response time, a TB factor, overshoot, and yaw rate gain are investigated through objective criteria, assessment webs. The handling performance of vehicle is evaluated via computer simulations. It has been shown from simulation studies that optimal controlled rear wheel steering vehicle provides improved performance compared to others.

This paper proposes a vehicle detector with an anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensor and addresses experimental results to show the detector's performance. The detector consists of an AMR sensor and mechanical and electronic apparatuses. The AMR sensor, composed of four magnetoresistors, senses disturbance of the earth's magnetic field caused by a vehicle moving over the sensor and then produces an output indicative of the moving vehicle. This paper verifies performance of the detector on the basis of experimental results obtained from the field tests carried under the two traffic conditions on local highways in Korea. First, I show the vehicle counting performance on a low speed congested highway by comparing the vehicle counts measured by the detector with the exact counts. Second, both vehicle counts and average speeds calculated from the measured point-occupancy on another continuously free running highway are compared with the reference values obtained from a loop detector which has two independent loop coils, where I have used several performance indices including mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) to show the performance consistency between the two types of detectors.
A driving vehicle performance which is driven by FTP-75 mode was simulated by computer. Throttle valve position, engine speed, air mass flow rate, fuel consumption et al. were computer simulated. A set of engine part load performance data, automatic transmission shift map and vehicle specifications were used for the computer simulation. Throttle valve position, engine speed, air mass flow rate et al. measured for evaluating the computer simulation results by driving the vehicle with FTP-75 mode on a chassis dynamometer. GT-Power$^{(R)}$ software was used for the computer simulation of the driving vehicle performance. Experimental fuel consumption rate was measured by using an ECU HILS fuel injection system. The experimental data and simulation results were compared. The computer simulation of the driving vehicle performance predicts the measured data well comparatively.
A gasoline injector rig which can measure cumulative injected fuel mass under a vehicle driving condition was developed. The measurement system consists of an engine control unit (ECU), data acquisition (DAQ) and injected fuel collection system using loadcells. By supplying reconstructed sensor signals which simulate the real vehicle's sensor signals to the ECU, the ECU drives injectors as if they were driven in the vehicle. The vehicle's performance was computer simulated by using $GT-Suite^{(R)}$ software based on both engine part load performance and automatic transmission shift map. Throttle valve position, engine and vehicle speed, air mass flow rate et al. were computer simulated. The used vehicle driving pattern for the simulation was FTP-75 mode. For reconstructing the real vehicle sensor signals which are correspondent to the $GT-Suite^{(R)}$ simulated vehicle's performance, the DAQ systems were used. The injected fuel was collected with mess cylinders. The collected fuel mass in the mess cylinder with elapsed time after starting FTP-75 driving mode was measured using loadcells. The developed method shows highly improved performance in fast timing and accuracy of the cumulative injected fuel mass measurement under the vehicle driven condition.

Braking is a basic and an important safety feature for all vehicles, and the final braking performance of a vehicle is determined by the vehicle's ABS performance and tire performance. However, the combination of excellent ABS and tires will not always ensure good braking performance. This is due to the fact that tire performance has non-linearity and uncertainty in predicting the repeated increase and decrease of wheel slip when activating the ABS, thus increasing the uncertainty of tire performance prediction. Furthermore, existing studies predicted braking performance after using an ABS that used a wheel slip control as a controller, which was different from an actual vehicle's ABS that controlled angular acceleration, therefore causing a decrease in the prediction accuracy of the braking performance. This paper reverse-designed the ABS that controlled angular acceleration based on the information on brake pressure, etc., which were obtained from vehicle tests, and established a braking performance prediction analysis model by combining a multi-body dynamics(MBD) vehicle model and a magic formula(MF) tire model. The established analysis model was verified after comparing it with the results of the braking tests of an actual vehicle. Using this analysis model, this study analyzed the braking effect by vehicle factor, and finally designed a tire that had optimized braking performance. As a result of this study, it was possible to design the MF tire model whose braking performance improved by 9.2 %.
The performance of full-scale steel and composite bridge safety barriers under vehicle crash is evaluated by using the nonlinear explicit finite element code LS-DYNA. Two types of vehicles used in this study are passenger car and truck, and the performance criteria considered include structural strength and deformation, occupant protection, and post-crash vehicle behavior. It can be concluded that the composite safety barrier satisfies all performance criteria of vehicle crash. Although the steel safety barrier satisfies the performance criteria of occupant protection and post-crash vehicle behavior, it fails to satisfy the performance criterion of deformation. In all performance evaluations, the composite safety barrier exhibits a superior performance in comparing with the steel safety barrier.

General vehicle is evaluated by its acceleration, fuel economy, NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) and subjective (such as launching feel) performance. The first step to enhance its performance is to know how much each component affects on the vehicle performance. It is very important to know what is the key factor of the component among many specifications. Hydraulic torque converter can be expressed by means of its performance curve (torque ratio and capacity factor). In this paper, the key factor of torque converter, which affect vehicle performance, are explored by using Taguchi method. Moreover, general sensitivity analysis method is compared with Taguchi's experiment.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle(HFCV) is system that uses electrical energy of fuel cell stack to main power source, which is different system with other vehicles that use high-voltage, large-current. Isolation performance of this system which is connected with electrical fire and electrical shock is important point. Isolation resistance of electric installation is divided according to working voltage, it follows criterion more than $100{\Omega}$/VDC (or $500{\Omega}$/VAC) about system operation voltage in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Although measurement of isolation resistance in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is two methods, it uses mainly measurement by megger. However, the present isolation resistance measurement system that is optimized to use in electrical facilities is unsuitable for isolation performance estimation of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle because of limit of maximum short current and difference of measurement resolution. Therefore, this research developed the isolation resistance measurement system so that may be suitable in isolation performance estimation of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, verified isolation performance about known resistance by performance verification of laboratory level about developed system, and executed performance verification through comparing results of developed system by performance verification of vehicle level with ones of existing megger. Developed system is judged to aid estimation and upgrade of isolation performance in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle hereafter.

Because most of vehicle provide users with the very limited information regarding the performance of vehicle, it is quite difficult for users to drive vehicles safe, and to maintain and repair vehicles properly. In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, several ways of research and development for the vehicle control and diagnosis system have been recently carried out. However, a lot of complicated problems and difficulties were arising due to the complexity of the developed system, degradation of the reliability for the vehicle performance control system, operational malfunction and so on. In this paper, for the purpose of solving the difficult problems and technical limitations, a system for vehicle performance which might be able to diagnose the reliability of vehicle performance by measuring and analyzing the real time performance of vehicle using the satellite telemetry technology was conmance oly defined and deehiced.hihe results derived from the cormance ofdvehiclactivities in this study shall be used as not only fundamental data but also materials for the detailed design for the implementation of vehicle performance diagnosis system in the near future.

In this study, a camber angle generating mechanism for rear suspension is suggested. An experimental device is implemented and tested. A full vehicle model with camber angle generating device by using ADAMS/Car is modeled. Rear left wheel and rear right wheel have 5 different camber angles in the simulations, respectively. Step steer and pulse steer simulations are carried out for investigating the effects of vehicle handling performance due to camber angle control of rear suspension. According to the results, the camber angle of rear suspension affects the vehicle handling performance during both simulations. Therefore, when the vehicle makes the right turn or left turn, left and right wheel should have the proper orientation for improving the handling performance, respectively.
