Condition assessment for high-speed railway bridges based on train-induced strain response

  • This paper presents the non-destructive evaluation of a high-speed railway bridge using train-induced strain responses. Based on the train-track-bridge interaction analysis, the strain responses of a high-speed railway bridge under moving trains with different operation status could be calculated. The train induced strain responses could be divided into two parts: the force vibration stage and the free vibration stage. The strain-displacement relationship is analysed and used for deriving critical displacements from theoretical stain measurements at a forced vibration stage. The derived displacements would be suitable for the condition assessment of the bridge through design specifications defined indexes and would show certain limits to the practical application. Thus, the damage identification of high-speed railways, such as the stiffness degradation location, needs to be done by comparing the measured strain response under moving trains in different states because the vehicle types of high-speed railway are relatively clear and definite. The monitored strain responses at the free vibration stage, after trains pass through the bridge, would be used for identifying the strain modes. The relationship between and the degradation degree and the strain mode shapes shows certain rules for the widely used simply supported beam bridges. The numerical simulation proves simple and effective for the proposed method to locate and quantify the stiffness degradation.

  • This paper presents an asymptotic formation control scheme for a group of underactuated autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) where only three control inputs - surge force, yaw moment and pitch moment are available for each vehicle's six degree of freedom (DOF) underwater motion. Usually, the dynamics agents applied in most of the formation algorithms presented so far have been modeled as particle systems, which is a simple double-integrator system. Therefore, these algorithms cannot be directly applicable to the practical systems, especially to the underwater vehicles whose dynamics are highly nonlinear. Moreover, the vehicles considered in this paper are underactuated. The formation control is derived using general potential function method, and the corresponding potential function consists of two parts: interactions between vehicles and virtual-leader following. Proposed formation scheme guarantees asymptotic local stability of closed-loop system. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed formation scheme.

원뿔 캐비테이터의 항력에 대한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of the Drag of Conical Cavitators)

  • In this paper, a numerical analysis is carried out to study the drag of conical cavitators, supercavity generation devices for the high-speed underwater vehicle. The realizable k-∊ turbulence model and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model are applied to calculate steady-state supercavitating flows around cones of various cone angles. The calculated drags of the cones are decomposed of the pressure and the friction parts and their dependency on the geometry and the flow conditions have been analyzed. It is confirmed that the pressure drag coefficients of the cones can be estimated by a simple function of both the cone angle and the cavitation number while the friction drag coefficients approximately by well-known empirical formulas, e.g., Schults-Grunow's for the drag of the flat plate. Finally a practical method for estimating the total drags of supercavitating cones is suggested, which can be useful consequently for the design of conical cavitaors.

  • Faults of rotating parts of a train normally generate unexpected frequency band or impulsive sound[1] which has a period when it moves with a constant speed. The former can be detected by the moving frame acoustic holography method, which visualizes sound field that is generated by a moving and emitting pure tone or band limited noise source. We have attempted to apply the method to the latter case: the periodic impulsive sound which generate different signal compared with what can be measured by the band limited noise. The signal to noise ratio which determines the success of early fault detection must also be studied with the impulsive and moving signal. This research shows how the problems related with these issues can be resolved. The main idea is that periodic impulsive signal can be expressed by infinite set of discrete pure tones. This enables us to obtain lots of holograms that visualize periodic impulsive sound field including noise by using the moving frame acoustic holography method. Therefore holograms can be averaged to improve the signal to noise ratio until having reliable information that exhibits where the impulsive sources are.   • In this study, structural vibration analyses of a smart unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have been conducted considering dynamic loads generated by rotating rotor and wakes. The present UAV (TR-S5-03) finite element model is constructed as a full three-dimensional configuration with different fuel conditions and tilting angles for helicopter, transition and airplane flight modes. Practical computational procedure for modal transient response analysis (MTRA) is established using general purpose finite element method (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. The dynamic loads generated by rotating blades in the transient and forward flight conditions are calculated by unsteady CFD technique with sliding mesh concept. As the results of present study, transient structural displacements and accelerations are presented in detail. In addition, vibration characteristics of structural parts and installed equipments are investigated for different fuel conditions and tilting angles.

  • This paper shows the Development of In-tank pressure regulator and Solenoid Valve used in FCV(Fuel Cell Vehicle). We have developed new type of Regulator and Solenoid through analysis of the structure and characteristics of component of FCS(Fuel Cell System) from the advanced technology. Now it is possible to localize the component by making use of the development of Regulator and Solenoid made by us. Regulator and Solenoid is a equipment to control hydrogen pressure supplied into a stack. Therefore, outlet pressure, a flow of fluid and temperature are important parameters according to a inlet pressure. And leak test, endurance test and burst test should be done to guarantee the performance and safety of Regulator and Solenoid used in the fuel of high pressure. Also, Hydrogen friendly materials are applied to inner parts of the Regulator, Solenoid and weight reduction is done to cost saving in part not related to performance. As a result, we have proven the good performance and reliability in endurance of Regulator, Solenoid and will make an development in performance as well as durability to ensure industrialization.

  • This paper deals with the ways how the AUV is composed of sub-modules to be fault-tolerant during the mission. The emergency situations can be classified into several parts according to the zones where the situations take place - sensor zone, actuator zone, interpreter zone, and communication zone. This paper explains how each element of emergency situation is detected, contained and treated, and as a result, introduce the modular structured AUV controller for the autonomous cruising.

A Design of Dynamically Simultaneous Search GA-based Fuzzy Neural Networks: Comparative Analysis and Interpretation

  • In this paper, we introduce advanced architectures of genetically-oriented Fuzzy Neural Networks (FNNs) based on fuzzy set and fuzzy relation and discuss a comprehensive design methodology. The proposed FNNs are based on 'if-then' rule-based networks with the extended structure of the premise and the consequence parts of the fuzzy rules. We consider two types of the FNNs topologies, called here FSNN and FRNN, depending upon the usage of inputs in the premise of fuzzy rules. Three different type of polynomials function (namely, constant, linear, and quadratic) are used to construct the consequence of the rules. In order to improve the accuracy of FNNs, the structure and the parameters are optimized by making use of genetic algorithms (GAs). We enhance the search capabilities of the GAs by introducing the dynamic variants of genetic optimization. It fully exploits the processing capabilities of the FNNs by supporting their structural and parametric optimization. To evaluate the performance of the proposed FNNs, we exploit a suite of several representative numerical examples and its experimental results are compared with those reported in the previous studies.

최적화된 Interval Type-2 FCM based RBFNN 구조 설계 : 모델링과 패턴분류기를 중심으로 (Structural design of Optimized Interval Type-2 FCM Based RBFNN : Focused on Modeling and Pattern Classifier)

  • In this paper, we propose the structural design of Interval Type-2 FCM based RBFNN. Proposed model consists of three modules such as condition, conclusion and inference parts. In the condition part, Interval Type-2 FCM clustering which is extended from FCM clustering is used. In the conclusion part, the parameter coefficients of the consequence part are estimated through LSE(Least Square Estimation) and WLSE(Weighted Least Square Estimation). In the inference part, final model outputs are acquired by fuzzy inference method from linear combination of both polynomial and activation level obtained through Interval Type-2 FCM and acquired activation level through Interval Type-2 FCM. Additionally, The several parameters for the proposed model are identified by using differential evolution. Final model outputs obtained through benchmark data are shown and also compared with other already studied models' performance. The proposed algorithm is performed by using Iris and Vehicle data for pattern classification. For the validation of regression problem modeling performance, modeling experiments are carried out by using MPG and Boston Housing data.

미사일 발사체 포드의 진동 및 충격 안전성 검증에 관한 연구 (Vibration and Shock Safety Verification for Missile Launcher Pod)

  • The launcher pod for missiles capable of carrying a range of different warheads has been designed to be mounted on the tracked vehicle of the hybrid weapon system (HWS). In the development of this launcher pod, its structure was designed to be resilient to damage caused by shock and vibration, as well as preventing assembly errors due to the spring-back of the main composite cover and interfacing parts. This study investigated the design of the newly developed launcher pod, with its hybrid composite-metal structure, through simulation and experiment. Both simulation and actual experiments showed that the structure of the launcher is resilient to vibration and shock. The launcher pod was also subjected to vibration and shock tests to verify its performance.
