This paper is to design and implement the drone that supports a wideband multimedia communication and a long-range to save people in maritime. The drone is an Unnamed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that is controlled by a radio wave not by people boarding the machine. We use the drone to respond quickly to the boating accident. To develop a smart drone for the high speed seamless video streaming in a long-range maritime, a necessary techniques are hardware design techniques that design structure of a drone, controlling techniques that operate a drone and communication techniques that control a drone in a long distance. In this paper, the limitations and techniques to design and implement the structure of drone supporting wideband multimedia communication for long-range maritime are explained. By expanding this communication drone network, it is aimed at improving utility of a drone.
PURPOSES: The number of traffic accidents in 2010 was 226,978 in Korea, a high percentage of which up to 12.61% was due to drunk driving. As it is expected that the number of traffic accidents will increase because of the drastic increase of the number of vehicle registrations and the prevalent drinking cultures, it is necessary to understand the driving characteristics of drunken drivers to lower the increasing rate. METHODS: This study, therefore, comparatively analyzes the two groups - one group before drinking and the other after drinking - based on the graph, and implements the correlation in each scenario(1,2,3). scenario 1. appearance of jaywalkers; scenario 2. appearance of an illegal left-turning car; and scenario 3. appearance of a vehicle and a person as obstacles to the driver after an accident. RESULTS: The comparative analysis of speed shows that the group after drinking was 50km/h faster than the group before drinking in Scenario 1, 20km/h in Scenario 2, and 15km/h in Scenario 3 respectively. In the comparative analysis of acceleration, the average level of the group after drinking was 0.15 higher than that of the group before drinking in Scenario 1, 0.30 in Scenario 2, and 0.15 in Scenario 3. In the comparative analysis of deceleration, the average level of the group after drinking was about 0.4 lower than that of the group before drinking in Scenario 1, 0.35 in Scenario 2, and 0.2 in Scenario 3 respectively. In the comparative analyses, the item of speed, acceleration and deceleration was of significance for each group in Scenarios. CONCLUSIONS: The comparative analysis demonstrated that there is a difference between the group before drinking and the group after drinking. In the analysis of correlation in each group, it was proved that the drunken group was of significance.
Engine oil is a substance used for the lubrication of internal combustion systems. However, in some case, defects in engine systems may contaminate engine oil with fuel. Contaminated engine oil can cause problems in the normal functioning of a vehicle. In this study, we investigate the functional properties of engine oil contaminated with diesel fuel. The test results indicate that the engine oil contaminated with diesel fuel has low flash point, pour point, density, kinematic viscosity and cold cranking simulator value. The contaminated engine oil which has low plash point can cause fire and explosion accident. Furthermore, a four ball test indicates that the contaminated engine oil increases wear scar to poor lubricity. Moreover, we investigate the GC pattern using SIMDIST (simulated distillation) for determination of diesel in engine oil. The SIMDIST analytic result, diesel was detected at earlier retention time than engine oil in chromatogram. Thus the SIMDIST method can define whether engine oil is contaminated by diesel fuel or not. We can use the SIMDIST method for the diagnosis of oil condition instead of analyzing other physical properties that require many analytic instruments, large volume of oil sample and long analysis time.

PURPOSES : The impact performance of flexible barrier system such as structural response, vehicular motion and occupant safety vary depending on the impact point. Thus, to properly evaluate the performance of a flexible barrier system, impact should be made to a point which will lead to the worst possible results. This point is called the Critical Impact Point (CIP). This paper presents the way to determine the CIP for a SB2 class flexible barrier system which is consisted of Thrie-Beam rail and circular hollow tube post of 2m span. METHODS: Barrier VII simulations were made for impact points; Case 1 at a post, Case 2 at 1/3 span downstream from a post, Case 3 at middle of the span, Case 4 at 2/3 span downstream from a post. For the structural performance (deflections), impact simulation of 8000kg-65km/h-15degree was used, and for vehicle motion and occupant safety, simulation of 1300kg-80km/h-20degree impact was made and analysed. RESULTS: Case 1 gave the largest dynamic deflection of 75.72cm and also gave the largest snag value of 44.3cm. Occupant safety and exit angle of the vehicle after the impact were not sensitive to the impact point and were all below the allowable limit. CONCLUSIONS : For the SB2 class flexible barrier system's CIP can be regarded as a post which is sufficiently away from the end of Length of Need in order to avoid the end-effect of the barrier system. It can be more economic in the long run because the normal concrete pavement material is likely to cost more due to higher probability of maintenance and repair and higher social cost due to traffic accident, etc.
This paper presents a Driving Risk Model (DRM) based on driving speed choices using an Ordered Response Probit (ORP) model. The DRM is conceptualized based on the relation between speed deviation and the occurrence of crashes found by Solomon. The impacts of various driving risk factors are revealed by applying the DRM to evaluate the effectiveness of In-Vehicle Traffic Warning Information (IVTWI) in expressway driving. Regarding driving risk, the results show that: (1) the risk is lower among male drivers, those with more driving experience and those with less accident history, (2) the risk is higher when driving takes place on wet road surface, in the afternoon, and under conditions of low traffic volume, and (3) the risk is also higher on both downgraded and long curve sections. Additionally, the results provide evidence that provision of IVTWI can decrease the driving risk. The proposed DRM provides a solution for assessing the traffic safety impacts of countermeasures on roadways when there is a shortage of traffic accidents data.

As the automobile industry is developing, the number of deaths and injuries has increased. To reduce the damages from automobile accidents, the government of each country proposes experimental conditions for reproducing the accident and establishes the vehicle safety regulations. Automotive manufacturers are trying to make safer vehicles by satisfying the requirements. The Hybrid III crash test dummy is a standard Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD) used for measuring the occupant's injuries in a frontal impact test. Since a real crash test using a vehicle is fairly expensive, a computer simulation using the Finite Element Method (F.E.M.) is widely used. Therefore, a detailed and robust F.E. dummy model is needed to acquire more accurate occupant injury data and behavior during the crash test. To achieve this goal, a detailed F.E. model of the Hybrid III 5th percentile female dummy is constructed by using the reverse engineering technique in this research. A modeling process is proposed to construct the F.E. model. The proposed modeling process starts from disassembling the physical dummy. Computer Aided Design (CAD) geometry data is constructed by three-dimensional (3-D) scanning of the disassembled physical dummy model. Based on the geometry data, finite elements of each part are generated. After mesh generation, each part is assembled with other parts using the joints and rigid connection elements. The developed F.E. model of dummy is simulated based on the FMVSS 572 validation regulations. The results of simulation are compared with the results of physical tests.

The market for small unmanned aerial vehicles (SUAVs) is growing rapidly as technology advances and makes it possible to use them in various fields. However, due to the rapid increase in small drones, breakdowns, collisions and falls are also increasing year by year, and technologies for reducing accident and securing safety are being actively researched. In particular, the application of a fault tolerance system to cope with unexpected failures during flight is essential. According to data released by the US Department of Defense, accidents caused by errors in flight control computers account for about 28% of all accidents. This paper describes the proposal of flight control computer system's dual structure design to tolerate flight control system failure.

The demands for (a) individual vehicle has been gradually increasing recently due to increase of personal income and spare time. In 2009, the quantities of registered vehicles exceeds over 17,325,210 millions pieces, and the risks of traffic accidents and traffic jam are increasing days by days. It has some limitations to solve the problem of traffic jam by transportation facilities and causes lots of time and costs. For a possible solution, ITS(Intelligent Transport System) has been introduced, but it is an insufficient way for abrupt incidents or risks on roads. The riskiest matter on driving a vehicle is unforeseen situation. In this paper, the most efficient and economical system that communicates with a driver about unexpected accident by sensor network and GPS information, is introduced rather than a traditional method associated with lots of time and costs.
The road safety depend on many road factors like vertical alignment, horizontal alignment and road cross section angle. These data are hardly to get with drawings, and the real data are differ from drawings because of road pavement overlay, etc. To get these data, so many time and cost are needed, moreover it is dangerous work in heavy traffic road. In this study we obtained the road safety data with RoSSAV(Road Safety Survey & Analysis Vehicle) of Korea Institute of Construction Technology in accordance with traffic flow, and make analysis of road safety with the vertical alignment, horizontal alignment and road cross section angle data. We derived the safety improvement method in Young-dong accident prone spot and described detail method in this paper.

As the market for portable electronic devices expands, the demand for Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) is also increasing. LIB has higher efficiency than other secondary batteries, but there is a risk of explosion / fire due to thermal runaway reaction. Especially, Electric Vehicles (EV) equipped with a large capacity LIB cell also has a danger due to a large amount of toxic gas generated by a fire. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the risk of toxic gas generated by EV fire to minimize accident damage. In this study, the flow of toxic gas generated by EV fire was numerically analyzed using Computational Fluid Dynamic. Scenarios were established based on literature data and EV data to confirm the effect distance according to time and exposure standard. The purpose of this study is to analyze the risk of toxic gas caused by EV fire and to help minimize the loss of life and property caused by accidents.
