  • Positive effects such as significantly reducing traffic accidents caused by human error can be expected by the introduction of Automated vehicles (AV). However, as new traffic safety issues are expected to occur in the future due to errors in H/W or S/W of autonomous vehicles and lack of its function, it is necessary to establish a scenario to evaluate the driving safety of AV. Therefore, in this study, functional scenario was developed to evaluate the driving safety of AV based on traffic accident data of the National Police Agency. Using the GIS program, QGIS, traffic accident data that occurred in the toll gate and ramp sections of expressway were extracted and accident summary items were checked to classify the types of accident. In addition, based on the results of accident type classification, functional scenario were developed that contains various dangerous situations in the tollgate and ramp sections.

  • Fuel cells are low-carbon power sources that can expand distributed energy system and electric vehicle charging infrastructure when installing fuel cells in gas stations. In order to ensure safety for fuel cells in gas stations, quantitative risk assessments were conducted after deriving accident scenarios based on accident data of domestic and foreign gas stations and fuel cells. It calculates the expected extent of damage from fire and explosion that can occur in reality, not the worst accident scenario, and analyzes the damage impact. The separation distance of more than 9.0 m from a dispenser, 15.5 m from a car under refueling, 4.1 m from the ventilation pipe, 1.1 m from the gas adjustment device prevent the severe damage caused by the expected accident. This study result can be used to deploy fuel cells in gas stations and establish safety measures.

  • About 1 year and 7 months have passed since the Serious Accident Punishment Act was implemented, and although many studies have been conducted on the definition and policy of the Act, almost no research has been conducted on its impact on the logistics industry. In particular, research on the PDI (PRS) process within finished vehicle logistics is severely lacking ‥‥‥. The government is expecting to expand the scope of punishment and upgrade the safety management system through the Serious Accident Punishment Act, but if you check the industrial accident data issued by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in 2022, the number and rate of industrial accidents will increase compared to 2021

Research design, data, and methodology - This study analyzes some accident cases between cargo trucks and rental cars in South Korea, and unlicensed vehicle with unlicensed drivers who use rental cars collided with cargo trucks which were loaded a lot of goods to be delivered to buyer designated. In order to fulfill this research, a case study accompanied with literature survey was conducted. Ideal suggestion for the right growth on rental car industry will be realized by legislation of the law. Results - This paper classified bodily injury of the victim, property damage and damaged cargo arising out of the unlicensed who is driving on car sharing service in South Korea. Conclusions - For the purpose of reducing cargo accidents caused by unlicensed drivers and an illegal use of other's name particularly by teenagers, this paper proposes some ideas of Amendment of the law, Paradigm shift of car sharing company, Preparation by association side and Technical Complementary Measures in South Korea.

  • The most common kind of vehicular accident is the low-speed rear-end impact that result in high portion of insurance claims and Whiplash Associated Disorders(WAD). The low-speed collisions have specific characteristics that differ from high speed collisions and must be treated differently This paper presents a simple continuous contact force model for the low-speed rear-end impact to simulate the accelerations, velocities and the contact force as functions of time. A smoothed Coulomb friction force is used to represent the effect of braking, which was found to be significant in simulating low-speed rear end impact. The intervehicular contact force is modeled using nonlinear damping and spring elements with coefficients and exponents. This paper presents how to estimate analytically stiffness and damping coefficients. The exponent of the nonlinear contact force model was determined to match the overall acceleration pulse shape and magnitude. The model can be used to determine ${\Delta}Vs$ and peak accelerations for the purpose of accident reconstruction and for injury biomechanics studies.

  • With the increase of population, dramatic urbanization, traffic, leisure and sports, the number of maxillofacial injury has increased markedly. Subsequently the number of motor vehicle accident, sports accident and industrial accident were increased and the number of oral and maxillofacial trauma patients were also markedly increased. A clinical study on 177 patients with facial bone fracture who visited Kangnam General Hospital during 4 years(1992-1995) was done by analysing sex, cause, fracture site, treatment method, complication and involvement of other body part. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The occurrence was more frequent in male than in female with the ratio of 4.2 : 1 and most frequently in twenties. 2. Violence was the most common cause of facial bone fracture. 3. Mandible was the most frequently occurred site and there were more cases of simple fracture(81.9%) than cases of compound fracture. 4. Simple fracture was most frequently occurred(44.0%). 5. In mandible fracture, simple fracture was 86.1%, fracture site was average 1.5 sites, most frequently in symphysis. 6. As treatment methods, open reduction(78.5%) was used more frequently than closed reduction(21.5%). 7. Post-operative complication occurred in 29.4% of the cases. 8. Other injuries that were related to maxillofacial fracture occurred in 28.2%.

  • Reconstruction of collision accidents is to analyze the cause of accidents and collision behavior using available information from vehicle accident circumstances. This paper introduces a collision reconstruction system which is developed to be applicable to traffic accident reconstruction. Our System combines both quantitative and qualitative collision models so as to compensate for weaknesses in each with strengths of each other. I It provides accurate predictions and causal explanations of the collision behavior. During r reverse analysis of collision. qualitative simulation is used to verify a hypothesis and to detect any conflict in early stage of reconstruction. It is implemented and applied to real car-to-car collision accidents. The test results verify the reliabilities of our techniques.

  • The population were increased by industrialization and urbanization of the modern society and social activities of the person were rapid increased too. Subsequently the number of motor vehicle accident, sports accident and industrial accident were increased, resulting in the number of oral and maxillofacial trauma were increased. Because of the mandible relatively protruded among the facial bone, the most frequent associated oral and maxillofacial injuries was mandible fracture in the trauma center setting. A clinical study on 411 patients with mandibular fracture who visited in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Chun-chon Sacred Heart Hospital during 10 years(1997-2006) was done by analysing sex, age, mode, fracture site and treatment method

  • This study was started with concern about problem of increasing physical and personal injury caused by traffic accidents, despite of technological advances in transportation. As the vehicles, which is currently produced, informs the driver only detecting the proximity of an object by the front and rear sensor, this study implemented the color detection algorithm, the circular shape recognition algorithm, and the distance recognition algorithm and built the accident prevention beyond accident perception, which commends to avoid the object or to stop the robot, if object was detected by algorithms. For the simulation, we made the Arduino vehicle robot equipped with compact wireless communication camera and confirmed that the robot successfully avoids an object or stops itself in simulated driving.

  • Most accident reconstruction or analysis depend on the coefficient of friction to estimate the vehicle speeds. Skid mark and coefficient of friction are usually utilized to calculate the velocity and behavior of vehicles. For a critical case such as traffic accident reconstruction, however, the initial velocity of the car should be calculated precisely. In this paper, emergency brake tests on ABS and Non-ABS brake system are conducted on the dry pavement asphalt road on speed 40, 60, 80 and 100 km/h respectively. The SWIFT sensor was established in the front wheel and rear wheel at driver side to measure the forces, moments and speeds of revolution of the tires. These tests results can be available to brake tests and accident reconstruction.
