  • For high performance ac drives, the speed sensorless vector control and the stator flux orientation concept have received increasing attention. This paper presents a new method of estimation the speed of AC induction machine(IM). To improve the speed estimation characteristics, accurate stator resistance variation is considered. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified computer simulation.

  • In this paper, descibed was the derived algorithm for calculating contact point between wheel and rail and the developed method for rail modeling. The proposed methods use travelling distance to represent rail center line position vector and rail orientation with respect to Newtonian reference frame. The methods call be easily used ill multibody dynamic analysis. Two numerical examples are shown to verify the validity of the proposed methods.

  • Pattern classification is an essential step in automatic robotic assembly which joins together finite number of seperated industrial parts. In this paper, a fast and systematic algorithm for classifying occlusion-free objects is proposed, using the notion of incremental circle transform which describes the boundary contour of an object as a parametric vector function of incremental elements. With similarity transform and line integral, normalized determinant curve of an object classifies each object, independent of position, orientation, scaling of an object and cyclic shift of the stating point for the boundary description.

  • This paper proposes an image compression algorithm that adopts projection scheme on wavelet transform domain of image signal. Wavelet decomposed image is encoded by the result of projection along one direction out of eight which approximates the coefficients most closely to the originally transformed coefficients. These projectrion data are vector quantized using separate codebooks depending on the decomposition level and orientation of decomposed of image. Experimental results reveals that proposed scheme shows excellent performance in PSNR manner and also shows good subjective quality.

  • Typical underwater acoustic transducers detect only the magnitude of an acoustic pressure and they have the limitation of not being able to recognize the direction of the sound signal. Hence, the authors of this paper proposed a new vector sensor structure based on Tonpilz transducers that could detect both the magnitude and the direction of a sound pressure. In the proposed structure, the piezoceramic ring was divided into four segments, and proper combination of the output voltages of the segments in response to the external sound pressure could provide the information on the orientation of the sound source. In this paper, a Tonpilz transducer has been fabricated to have the proposed structure and its characteristics has been measured to confirm the validity of the proposed structure.

  • This study analyzed the current meter records along with wind records for over 500 days obtained in the Kangjin Bay, South Sea, Korea spanning from March, 2003 to Nov. 2005. Various analyses include descriptive statistics, harmonic analysis of tidal constituents, spectra and coherence, the principal axis, progressive vector diagrams. These analyses can illustrate the response of residual current to the local wind resulting in the net drift with rotational motion. Current speed ranges from -28 to 33 (cm/sec), with standard deviations from 6.5 to 12.9 (cm/sec). The harmonic analyses of the tidal current show the average form number, 0.12 with semi-diurnal type and the rectilinear orientation of the major axis toward northeast. The magnitudes of the semi-major range from 12.7 to 17.7 (cm/sec) for M2 harmonics, while for S2 harmonics, they range from 6.3 to 10.4 (cm/sec), respectively. In the spectral and coherency analysis of residual current and wind, a periodicity of 13.6 (day) is found to be most important in both records and plays an important role in the net drift of residual current. The progressive vector diagrams of residual current and wind show two types of behaviors such as unidirectional drift and rotational motion. It was also found that 3 % rule holds approximately to drive 1 (cm/sec) drift current by 30 (cm/sec) wind speed based on the correlation of the semi-major axis of wind and residual current.

  • Among a number of antigens characterized in M leprae, an etiological agent of Leprosy, the 18 kDa antigen, is unique to M leprae. We have previously determined a sequence specific element in the 18 kDa gene of M leprae, which confers transcriptional repression. In this report, we have examined if the element could be applied to genes other than the 18 kDa gene of M leprae. To identify the roles of the regulatory sequence in heterologous promoter, we have constructed pB3 vector series, which contains BCG hsp65 promoter and the M leprae 18 kDa transcription repression responsive element in tandem using LacZ gene as a reporter gene. Cloning of hsp65 promoters of M bovis BCG or M smegmatis in front of LacZ gene resulted in normal $\beta$galactosidase activity as expected. However, when the sequence element was placed between the promoter and the LacZ gene, $\beta$-galactosidase activity was reduced 10-fold less. Also we have examined with pB3(-) vector, that harbors the transcription repression responsive element in a reversed orientation, the $\beta$-galactosidase activity was found to be similar to pB3(+) vector. Thus, these results further confirm that M leprae 18 kDa transcription repression responsive element could regulate BCG hsp65 heterologous promoter and that the element could act as an operator for the transcription of mycobacteria.

  • In order to clone the gene coding for 3-isopropylmalate dehydrogenase of Muyveromyces fragilis, a shuttle plasmid vector pHNll4 was used. It can serve as a cloning vector in Saccharomyces cerevisiae DBY746 for other Sau3AI-cleaved DNA segment of Kluyveromyces fragilis. Two cloned fragments which complement the leu2 mutation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and E, coli were obtained. Their length was 4.4 kb an 3.5 kb, and their orientation was opposite each other. From the fact that the two recombinant plasmids were expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and E, coli, probably the two inserts had the promoter of Ktuyveromyces fi-agilis and that of Kluyveromyces fiagilis was efficiently assosiated with RNA polymerase of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and E. coli. According to the result of Southern hybridization, we thought that the cloned fragment has low homology with 3-isopropylmalate dehydrogenase coding region of E. coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

  • A new gene encoding an acidophilic TEX>$\alpha$-amylase of Bacillus cil-culans KCTC3004 was cloned into Eschericlzia coli using pUC19 as a vector. The gene localized in the 5.8 kb PstI DNA fragment was expressed independently of its orientation in the cloning vector showing enzyme activity about 40 times greater than that produced by the original B, circulans The optimum pH and temperature of the cloned enzyme were pH 3.6 and 45^{\circ}C.$ respectively. The enzyme hydrolyzed starch to produce maltotriose and maltooligosaccharides. The SDS-PAGE and zymopram of the enzyme produced in E coli(p.4L850) indicated a molecular weight of 55,000.
