  • Recently, construction projects are very complicated and diverse such as high-rise buildings and big bridges, etc. These complicated projects call for a system which can effectively generate productive ideas and activities. Value Engineering (V.E.) activity within construction projects is a necessity for systematic design management and to improve construction ability. This need in the construction industry has required a regular implementation of VE into construction projects. For this reason; America, South Korea, and some other nations have adopted VE applications which control the baseline investments of the construction projects. The process of VE activity is a preferred system and a reasonable alternative. In particular, idea generation within these projects is an important stage in the VE job plan. In this study, VE idea patterns are extracted through best practice analysis from VE cases of road construction projects. Next, we suggest an idea hierarchy model to be used in conjunction with VE idea patterns. This model is supported by reasonable idea generation in VE activity of construction projects. Finally, this model could possibly be the outcome of successful VE results.

  • It is the most important thing of the overall VE that we create inventive ideas from idea phase in the design VE. However, it is hard that it take a long time and create a superior idea using Brainstorming. And, it was real to lodge an alternative plan proposed on the idea thinking phase, it is true that an alternative plan of existing simply costdown apply to a change and insert isn't different from an inventive idea deduction. Also creating alternative idea, many expert hold on to only his field and it was exposed a limit depend on a team's experience or intuition than technical solution. In this study, we analyzed the problem of the present design VE processing and analyzed the problem through a survey to an expert, and then we'll suggest a possibility for an efficient design VE.

  • The study investigated the effects of dietary Vitamin E (VE) on nitric oxide (NO) metabolism, immune function and analyzed the correlation between NO free radical and cytokines (IL-2 and IL-6) in broilers. One hundred and fifty 2-week-old broilers were randomly divided into three groups. Control group and lower VE ($VE^-$) group were provided with a basic diet supplemented with 12.55 mg/kg VE and 2.55 mg/kg VE for 30 days, respectively. Higher VE ($VE^{-}-VE^+$) group was supplemented with 2.55 mg/kg VE in the first 15 days and then 32.55 mg/kg VE in the next 15 days. Five broilers in each group were then sacrificed on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th days, respectively, and the content of NO free radical, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx), malondialdehyde (MDA) and cytokines, IL-2 and IL-6, were measured. The results showed that lower VE could decrease growth performance of broilers while higher VE could increase growth performance and eliminate differences resulted from feeding lower VE dietary in early stages (p<0.05). Compared with the control group, lower VE could increase significantly NO and MDA concentration, and increase IL-2 concentration in serum (p<0.05). Higher VE could significantly increase activities of SOD and glutathione GSH-Px (p<0.05). IL-2 is positively correlated with NO in heart (p<0.05) and IL-6 is negatively correlated with NO in liver (p<0.05) and heart (p<0.01). These results indicate that dietary VE could regulate antioxidant capacity and NO metabolism of broilers and higher VE-supplemented diet could directly decrease production of IL-2.

  • Shortage of SOC budget and inappropriate initial construction cost planning have worsened the economic sentiment of the construction firm. Construction VE can be one of the solutions for improving the profitability of construction projects. This study identifies the strong and weak points of construction firms for establishing the strategy of effective construction VE by using importance-performance analysis. As a result, construction firms have strong points on support, cooperation, and knowledge about construction VE, but have weak points on 'VE experience of VE leader', 'Detailed cost estimation', and 'Idea generation and evaluation'. This paper contributes to establishing the strategy of effective construction VE from the perspective of the construction firm, which is differentiated from previous studies that have focused on the institutional approach for construction VE.

  • We present the results of a search for Very Low-Luminosity Objects (VeLLOs) in the Gould Belt (GB) clouds using infrared and sub-millimeter (sub-mm) data from 1.25 to $850{\mu}m$ and our N2H+ (J = 1-0) observations. We modified the criteria by Dunham et al. to select the VeLLOs in the GB clouds, finding 95 VeLLO candidates, 79 of which are newly identified in this study. Out of 95 sources, 44 were detected in both sub-mm continuum and N2H+ emission and were classified as Group A (the VeLLOs), and 51 sources detected in either sub-mm emission or N2H+ emission were classified with Group B as candidate VeLLOs. We find that these VeLLOs and the candidates are forming in environments different from those of the likely VeLLOs. Seventy-eight sources are embedded within their molecular clouds, and thus are likely VeLLOs forming in a dense environment. The remaining 17 sources are located in low-level extinction regions (Av < 1) connected to the clouds, and can be either background sources or candidate substellar objects forming in an isolated mode. The VeLLOs and the candidates are likely more luminous and their envelopes tend to be more massive in denser environments. The VeLLOs and the candidates are more populous in the clouds where more YSOs form, indicating that they form in a manner similar to that of normal YSOs. The bolometric luminosities and temperatures of the VeLLOs are compared to predictions of episodic accretion models, showing that the low luminosities for most VeLLOs can be well explained by their status in the quiescent phases of a cycle of episodic mass accretion.
