Fabrication of Lateral and Stacked Color Patterns through Selective Wettability for Display Applications

  • A simple and versatile method of fabricating color patterns in two-dimension (2D) and three-dimension (3D) was developed using the selective-wettability approach. Red, green, and blue color elements are sequentially formed on a single substrate in a pattern-by-pattern and/or pattern-on-pattern fashion, through a simple coating process. Either 2D or 3D structures in an array format are produced by controlling the thickness of the hydrophobic layer (HL) coating a substrate within the framework of wetting transition. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the stacked geometry of two successive patterns can be easily tailored for various types of color arrays, with the pattern fidelity of a few tens of nanometers in terms of only a parameter of the HL thickness.

  • Generally many devices reproduce images in the various ways. Therefore many devices can reproduce restrict range of colors according to their device characters. And the restrict range of color is called as a color gamut. Owing to these color gamuts have the differences between devices, color gamut mapping is needed. In this paper, we attempted an experiment about a gamut mapping from a CRT monitor to a LCD monitor.

Characteristics of Color Perception about Yellow and Blue with Human Lens Coloration (시간의 노화에 따른 Yellow와 Blue에 대한 색지각 특성)

  • With the progress of the aging society into the aged society, the planning of senior housing is inevitably required. Among the factors of planning, color appeals to people's vision which mostly accepts information about the environment, so age-related color vision changes should be studied. The purpose of the study is to find out characteristics of color perception focused on yellow and blue with advancing of the yellowed eye sight in the old age. The findings are as follows. (1) Regardless of gender, losses of color perception in sensitivity is occurred as aging is proceeded. But the rate of reduction is mitigated compared with the ex-research in Japan because of the promotion of physical health. (2) Human lens coloration was not common until 85 years old and the hue of yellow and red was easily perceived by the older subjects. (3) Yellow is more preferred to other colors by the elderly and accuracy of yellow-color perception is higher than that of blue-color. (4) It is especially hard for the elderly to perceive the difference between pure blue and mixture of blue-green. Therefore blue and blue-green should not be adopted simultaneously in senior housing environment. Except for the space which specially requires carefulness, various color preferred by the elderly should be applied to the senior housing environment to satisfy their psychological condition and provide the vitality of life.

Color Compensation Method for Non-Contact Color Inspection on Plasma Display Panel (플라즈마 디스플레이 패널에서 비접촉식 칼라 검사를 위한 칼라 보정 방법)

  • An efficient color compensation method is proposed to reduce the color difference between the camera based inspection system and the colorimeter based inspection system in a plasma display panel production line. The color compensation matrix can be constructed by using the relationship between RGB to XYZ conversion matrices, which are obtained by the RGB primaries and reference white chromaticity coordinates. Experimental results show that the non-contact color inspection system using the proposed color compensation method satisfactorily compensates the chromaticity coordinates acquired by the area color CCD camera to be matched to those measured by the colorimeter for various test color.

  • This study constructs various scenarios required for landscape lighting; furthermore, a large-capacity general-purpose multifunctional controller is designed and implemented to validate the operation of the various scenarios. The multi-functional controller is a large-capacity general-purpose controller composed of a drive and control unit that controls the scenarios and colors of LED modules and an LED display unit. In addition, we conduct a computer simulation by designing a control system to represent the most appropriate color according to the input values of the temperature, illuminance, and humidity, using the neuro-control system. Consequently, when examining the result and output color according to neuro-control, unlike existing crisp logic, neuro-control does not require the storage of many data inputs because of the characteristics of artificial intelligence; the desired value can be controlled by learning with learning data.

  • In detecting human faces in color images, additional geometric computation is often necessary for validating the face-candidate regions having various forms. In this paper, we propose a method that detects the facial features using chrominance components of color which do not affected by face occlusion and orientation. The proposed algorithm uses the property that the Cb and Cr components have consistent differences around the facial features, especially eye-area. We designed the Mean-Gray Morphology operator to emphasize the feature areas in the eye-map image which generated by basic chrominance differences. Experimental results show that this method can detect the facial features under various face candidate regions effectively.

  • A zero-watermarking algorithm in transform domain based on RGB channel and voting strategy is proposed. The registration and identification of ownership have achieved copyright protection for color images. In the ownership registration, discrete wavelet transform (DWT), discrete cosine transform (DCT), and singular value decomposition (SVD) are used comprehensively because they have the characteristics of multi-resolution, energy concentration and stability, which is conducive to improving the robustness of the proposed algorithm. In order to take full advantage of the characteristics of the image, we use three channels of R, G, and B of a color image to construct three master shares, instead of using data from only one channel. Then, in order to improve security, the master share is superimposed with the copyright watermark encrypted by the owner's key to generate an ownership share. When the ownership is authenticated, copyright watermarks are extracted from the three channels of the disputed image. Then using voting decisions, the final copyright information is determined by comparing the extracted three watermarks bit by bit. Experimental results show that the proposed zero watermarking scheme is robust to conventional attacks such as JPEG compression, noise addition, filtering and tampering, and has higher stability in various common color images.

Demosaicing Algorithm and Hardware Implementation with Weighted Directional Filtering for Diagonal Edge (방향성 필터를 이용하여 대각선 에지를 고려한 Demosaicing 알고리즘 및 하드웨어 구현)

  • Most digital cameras use a single image sensor with Color Filter Array(CFA) for the advantage of costs and speed. The various color interpolation(demosaicing) algorithms are researched to reconstruct a full representation of the image. In this paper, we proposed a method of demosaicing about using weighted directional filter for vertical, horizontal, and diagonal direction edge. The method considered the efficiency of hardware resources for hardware implementation. The performance of proposed method was confirmed by comparing the conventional method in experiments using 24 Kodak test images. The proposed method was designed by Verilog HDL and was verified by using Virtex4 FPGA boards and CMOS Image Sensor.

  • This paper presents a dynamic simulation loop that gives tracking results of 2-color concentric annular ring (CAR) reticle seeker. Our simulation tool includes the target/flare model and a proportional navigation guidance (PNG) loop. The CAR reticle system performances and the flare effects are analyzed in various scenarios. When a flare is present in the field of view (FOV), the simulation results show that the reticle seeker cannot keep a precise target tracking. In this paper, we propose 2-color counter-countermeasure (CCM) using the least mean square (LMS) method to cope with a presence of IR flare. The proposed method makes a simultaneous process in two infrared (IR) wavelength bands: MWIR add SWIR. The simulation results have shown that our adaptive IRCCM algorithm can achieve an effective cancellation of the flare signal with a relatively high intensity.

  • This paper proposes a computationally efficient algorithm for color image segmentation using self-organizing map(SOM) and grassfire algorithm. We reduce a computation time by decreasing the number of input neuron and input data which is used for learning at SOM. First converting input image to CIE $L^*u^*v^*$ color space and run the learning stage with the SOM-input neuron size is three and output neuron structure is 4by4 or 5by5. After learning, compute output value correspondent with input pixel and merge adjacent pixels which have same output value into segment using grassfire algorithm. The experimental results with various images show that proposed method lead to a good segmentation results than others.
