  • In this paper, a self tuning control algorithm is proposed for the high performance drive of DC servo motor, which is adequate to the servo system having frequent load variation. In order to realization of the algorithm, the control system is developed using a fixed point high speed digital signal processor. TMS320C25. Control algorithm is composed of two parts. One is estimation law part using recursive least mean square method, the other is control law part using minimum variance control method. For the purpose of easiness of applying adaptive algorithm, developed control system is based o PC-DSP structure which can develop, debug programs and monitor the dynamic behaviors, etc. Through computer simulation and experimental results, it was verified that proposed control system could estimate system parameters and was robust to the variation of the load and as a result, was adequate to the servo motor drives.

  • A novel higher order shear-deformable beam model, which provides linear variation of transversal normal strain and quadratic variation of shearing strain, is proposed to describe the beam resting on foundation. Then, the traditional two-parameter Pasternak foundation model is modified to capture the effects of the axial deformation of beam. The Masing's friction law is incorporated to deal with nonlinear interaction between the foundation and the beam bottom, and the nonlinear properties of the beam material are also considered. To solve the mathematical problem, a displacement-based finite element is formulated, and the reliability of the proposed model is verified. Finally, numerical examples are presented to study the effects of the interfacial friction between the beam and foundation, and the mechanical behavior due to the tensionless characteristics of the foundation is also examined. Numerical results indicate that the effects of tensionless characteristics of foundation and the interfacial friction have significant influences on the mechanical behavior of the beam-foundation system.

  • In this paper we design and evaluate the longitudinal nonlinear N(aub)z-CSAS(Command and Stability Augmentation System) flight control law in \"DMI(Dynamic Model Inversion)-method\" and classical \"Gain Scheduling-method\", respectively, to meet the handling quality requirements associated with push-over pull-up maneuver. It is told that the flight control law designed in \"DM-method\" is adequate to the full flight regime without gain scheduling and is efficient to produce the time response shape desired to the handling quality requirements. On the contrary, the flight control law designed in \"Gain Scheduling-method\" is easy to be implemented in flight control computer and insensitive to variation of the actuator model characteristics.n of the actuator model characteristics.

  • Free vibration analysis of power law and sigmoidal sandwich plates made up of functionally graded materials (FGMs) has been carried out using finite element based higher-order zigzag theory. The present model satisfies all-important conditions such as transverse shear stress-free conditions at the plate's top and bottom surface along with continuity condition for transverse stresses at the interface. A Nine-noded C0 finite element having eleven degrees of freedom per node is used during the study. The present model is free from the requirement of any penalty function or post-processing technique and hence is computationally efficient. The present model's effectiveness is demonstrated by comparing the present results with available results in the literature. Several new results have been proposed in the present work, which will serve as a benchmark for future works. It has been observed that the material variation law, power-law exponent, skew angle, and boundary condition of the plate widely determines the free vibration behavior of sandwich functionally graded (FG) plate.

  • The friction factor of commercial pipe varies with wide range depending on pipe type and pipe size. Various methods can describe the wide variation of friction factor with good accuracy, but they normally require an iteration process even for solution of a simple case. Power law can result in an explicit form of solver so that the power law is rigorously employed for the development of direct solution technique. The parameters used in the present form of power law are allowed to haute some variation with pipe size and Reynolds number as well as pipe type for wider coverage with good accuracy, while Hazen-Williams equation permits limited variation which accounts only for the roughness or the pipe type. Furthermore secondary loss is considered in the development of explicit equations for design of commercial pipes.

  • The bubble size distribution is critical information to understand sound propagation and ambient noise in the ocean. To estimate the bubble size distribution in a bubbly water, the sound attenuation has been only in the conventional acoustic bubble sizing method without considering the sound speed variation. However, the effect of the sound speed variation in bubbly water cannot be neglected because of its compressibility variation. The sound attenuation is also affected by the sound speed variation. In this paper, a coherent acoustic bubble sizing inverse technique is introduced as a new bubble sizing technique with considering sound speed variation as well as the sound attenuation. This coherent sizing method is theoretically verified with the bubble distribution functions of single-size, Gaussian, and power-law functions. Its numerical test results with the coherent acoustic bubble sizing method show good agreement with the given bubble distributions.

  • In this paper, the control law for the system that has the variation of moment of inertia is designed. The proposed method is that the control input is obtained by using optimal PI control and partial adaptive control. The partial adaptive control input is adjusted by estimating the variational quantity of moment of inertia. This result gives us significant improvement of tracking ability.

  • A computer code was developed to simulate the filling stage of the injection/compression molding process by a finite element method. The constitutive equation used here was the compressible Leonov model. The PVT relationship was assumed to follow the Tait equation. The flow-induced birefringence was related to the calculated flow stresses through the linear stress-optical law. Simulations of a disk part under different process conditions including the variation of compression stroke and compression speed were carried out to understand their effects on birefringence variation. The simulated results were also compared with those by conventional injection molding.

  • To existing method which uses energy variation and spectrum deviation to detect the underwater transient signal is useful to detect white noise environment, but it is not useful to do colored noise environment. To improve capacity of detecting the underwater transient signal both in white noise environment and colored noise environment, this study takes advantage of Double Density Discrete Wavelet Transform and CFAR Power-Law.
